Ardell Lunski
Ardell Lunski, 50, rural Grand Forks, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at home.
Ardell Ted Lunski was born April 12, 1950, the son of Ted and Florianna (Lizakowski) Lunski, in Grand Forks, where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1970, during the Vietnam War. He was awarded two Purple Hearts. He returned to Grand Forks. He attended North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, N.D. He married
in 1972.
He is survived by a daughter, Dawn (Jerod) Seaver; a granddaughter; his parents; sisters, Darlene and Mavis (Charles) Fayette, both of Grand Forks; and brothers, James (Sharon) and Darius (Sharon), both of Grand Forks, and Jay (Deborah), Ardoch, N.D.
He was preceded in death by a niece.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Norman Funeral Home, Columbia Road.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Military rites: American Legion Post No. 157 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3817, East Grand Forks.
Elwood C. Kemp
CAVALIER, N.D. -- Elwood C. Kemp, 89, Cavalier, died Monday, May 8, 2000, in Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier.
Elwood Clayton Kemp was born Aug. 7, 1910, the son of Wallace and Merle (Willis) Kemp, in Carlisle Township, Pembina County, N.D. He was raised in the Hamilton, N.D., area, where he attended school. In 1934 he graduated from Park River (N.D.) Agriculture College. He spent the winter of 1936 in California in a Civilian Conservation Corp Camp. He began farming in 1938 in the Hamilton area. He married
Mae Middleton on Dec. 25, 1939, in Pembina. They lived and farmed in the Hamilton area. Mae Kemp died May 10, 1981. He married
Evelyn Lunde Thom on April 14, 1984. They lived in Cavalier.
He is survived by his wife; children, Richard (Karen), James (Pat), Daniel (Kaaren) and Patty (Carson) Martin, all of Hamilton, Judy (Orville) Aune, Park River, N.D., and Rodger (Diane), Chicago; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold (Pat), Cavalier; a sister, Grace (Marvin) Gunderson, Cavalier; and sisters-in-law, Myrtle Kemp and Shirley Kemp, both of Cavalier.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Hanson; and brothers, Willis and Robert.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Trinity United Methodist Church, Cavalier.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Hamilton Cemetery.
C. Bennington
BEMIDJI -- Charles Bennington, 53, Bemidji, died of cancer Thursday, May 4, 2000, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.
Charles Ray Bennington was born Jan. 26, 1947, the son of Albert and Inez (Larson) Bennington. He graduated from high school in Bemidji in 1965 and attended Vo-Tech in Camby, Minn., and GM Training School in Minneapolis. In October 1967 he spent a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam. He married
Joanne Nibbe on Oct. 22, 1970, in Wilton, Minn. He lived in Bemidji, where he worked as an auto mechanic.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Jerri (Phillip) Nyland, Bemidji; a grandson; brothers, Eugene (Margaret), Duluth, Robert (Lynda), Brownton, Minn., and Al (Elizabeth), Bemidji; and sisters, Margaret Bennington, Kansas City, Mo., and Mary Bennington, Bemidji.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
William Kingree
DEVILS LAKE -- William B. Kingree, M.D., 78, Devils Lake, formerly of Woodstock, Va., died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
William Blaine Kingree was born Nov. 2, 1921, the son of Willie and Cora (Wetzel) Kingree, in Columbia Furnace, Va. He graduated from high school in Winchester, Va., and graduated college from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg, Va., and the University of Wisconsin, Madison in agricultural economics. He worked for the Department of Agriculture, Washington, D.C. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He graduated from the University of Medical School, Charlottesville, Va., as a medical doctor. He served his internship and residency at the Virginia Mason Hospital, Seattle, the Veterans Administration Hospital, Fort Howard, Md., and Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, Tenn. He was in general practice for one and a half years in Woodbridge, Va., and later practiced in internal medicine in Woodstock, where he served as chief of medicine, and also in Edinburg, Va., from 1966 to 1990. He married
Olivia Hegre on Feb. 17, 1968, in Seattle. In 1990 they moved to Devils Lake. He worked for the U.S. Public Health Services, Indian Health Clinic in Fort Totten, N.D., as the medical officer and as the clinical director until his retirement in 1999. He served on the faculty of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Seth, at home, and Luke, Lexington, Va.; and a sister, Marguerite Cardinal, Winchester.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Brown; and sisters, Maymie Dodd and Gladys McDonald.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Peace Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Va.
Myrtle Halvorson
DEVILS LAKE -- Myrtle Halvorson, 95, Devils Lake, formerly of Sarles, N.D., died Monday, May 8, 2000, in Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Myrtle Amanda Sole was born Dec. 27, 1904, in Colfax, N.D. In 1906 she moved with her family to Sarles and then to Glenora, Man., where she attended school. She married
John Halvorson in 1926. They lived and farmed in Sarles. They operated a truck farm in Pasco, Wash., for 3 years. In 1949 they retired from the farm and moved into Sarles. John Halvorson died in 1974. She moved to Devils Lake in 1997.
She is survived by five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sons, Harvey and Raymond; a daughter, Joyce Dagliesh; a grandson; brothers, Oliver and Abe; and sisters, Clara Clark.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Sarles Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 3 to 9 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Brooks Funeral Home, Langdon.
Burial: Sarles Cemetery.
James Corbid
James Corbid, formerly of Grand Forks, died Sunday, May 7, 2000.
James Joseph Corbid served in the Korean War and World War II. He worked for UPS for more than 29 years.
He is survived by sons, Lynn, Jeffrey and John; daughters, Janice, Ann, Betty Rae, Robin Corbid and Lori Walker; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Ben Jr., Dennis and John; and sisters, Nadine and Bette.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loois Marie; and a sister, Patricia.
Services: Private services will be held (Mountain View Mortuary, Altadena, Calif.).
