Lawrence L. Walstad
Lawrence L. Walstad, 73, of Grand Forks, ND died Friday, July 21, 2000 in Valley Memorial Home, Grand Forks, ND.
Lawrence L. Walstad was born April 11, 1927, in Milton, ND, the son of Nathan and Manda (Olson) Walstad. Lawrence was educated in Milton, ND. After graduation he farmed with his father and hauled gravel. He later became a Standard Oil bulk dealer at Edmore, ND.
Lawrence served in the Army from 1950 to 1951 with the 2nd Armored Division, 48th Armored Medical BN. He returned to Standard Oil at Edmore until 1953. Lawrence managed stores for the Farmers Union Oil Co. at Kindred, Minot, and Tolna, ND, from 1953 -63.
Lawrence married
Donna Flaten on May 10, 1963. They moved to Harvey, ND, and started an Oliver Machinery Dealership that ran until 1970. They moved to Grand Forks, ND where Lawrence started in the real-estate business. He spent the next 30 years in the business until forced to retire due to illness.
Lawrence was very active in veterans organizations. He served as Commander and Adjutant for American Legion Post #6. He served as DAV Department Commander from 1985-86 and Andy Nomland Chapter #2 Commander.
Lawrence has always been an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church. He served on several church boards and was a Deacon and Trustee.
He is survived by his wife; Donna, daughters, Barbara Layton, SanRafael, CA, Brenda Isaacson, Burnsville, MN; sons, Larry Lynn (Lori), Grand Forks, Kriss, Grand Forks; step-daughter, Deanne Erie, Mandan; grandchildren; Jessica Layton, Kristoffor Isaacson, Alicia Walstad, Tyler and Erica Walstad, Trevor Erie; sisters, Lucille Berg, Sequin, WA, Vernice Shultz, Anna, IL, Lorna (Bernard) McDowell, Dunedin, FL, Eunice (Don) Carlson, Woodland, CA, Alda Peterson, CA; several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Malmin and Norme, sisters, Thelma O'Sullivan, June Johnson.
Services will be Tuesday, July 25, at 2 pm, in Calvary Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 with an 8 pm prayer service in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks, ND. Interment
will be in Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
Eva M. Jerome
ROLLA, N.D. -- Eva M. Jerome, 84, Rolla, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, in Presentation Medical Center, Rolla.
Eva Margaret Delorme was born Nov. 4, 1915, the daughter of John and Emma (Monette) Delorme, in Belcourt, N.D., where she attended school. She married
Joseph Jerome on July 9, 1935, in Belcourt. She worked as a housekeeper in Rolla. In 1969, they moved to Rolla. Joseph Jerome died August 1989.
She is survived by children, John (Evelyn), Belcourt, Gwen (Ron) Unger, Rolla, James (Linda), Grand Rapids, Minn., and Emma Jean Imberg, Fargo; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Wendell; a sister, Blanche; and a brother, John.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt.
Visitation: After 6: 30 p.m. Wednesday, with an 8 p.m. rosary and vigil service and one hour before services all in the church.
Burial: St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery
(Keplin, Rolette, N.D.).
Lila Walgren
Lila Walgren, 89, 1718 University Ave., died Sunday, July 23, 2000, in her sister's home.
Lila Rose Ellen Christen was born Oct. 25, 1910, the daughter of Leonard and Alma (Sagen) Christen, in Brandon, Man. She grew up and graduated from high school in Devils Lake. She received her teaching degree from Concordia College, Moorhead. She taught in Climax, Minn., for 32 years. She retired in 1977. She married
Paul Walgren in April 1930. He died later in 1930.
She is survived by brothers, Wallace (Fran), Elkhorn, Wis., and Stanley (Esmeralda), Portland, Ore.; and sisters, Jayne Wolff, Apache Junction, Ariz., and Vivien (Earl) Rude, Grand Forks.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Adele Christen Brooks.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, Bethel Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks (Amundson).
Eldo Weiss
CROOKSTON -- Eldo F. Weiss, 92, Crookston, died Saturday, July 15, 2000, in Riverview Nursing Home, Crookston.
Eldo F. Weiss was born March 26, 1908, the son of John and Mollie (Meyer) Carter. He was adopted by Paul and Sophie Weiss. They lived in Crookston. He was employed by Montana Dakota Gas Co. and Crookston National Bank and was the custodian for Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He married
Elise "Liz" Kuehl on Feb. 8, 1964, in Crookston.
He is survived by his wife; stepdaughters, Glorene (George) Meyer, and Ardyce (Walter) Cymbaluk, both of Crookston; eight stepgrandchildren; 14 stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Strom, Erskine, Minn., and Kathryn (Art) Albers, Keystone, Iowa; and a brother, Everett, Belle Plaine, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Millard Radke.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Crookston.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
Bernice Stephens
Bernice C. Stephens, 77, 2303 27th Ave. S., died Thursday, July 12, 2000, at home.
Bernice C. Aafedt was born Jan. 3, 1923, the daughter of Sjur and Josephine (Hanson) Aafedt in Tunbridge, N.D. She graduated from high school in Rugby, N.D. She married
Robert Stephens on Jan. 30, 1943, in Minot. They owned and operated Bob's Cafe, Michigan, N.D. They moved to Grand Forks in 1962. They owned and operated Baseview Cafe. She worked at Herbergers, Griffiths and Norbys. Robert Stephens died Feb. 16, 1990.
She is survived by a son, Robert (Caroljean) Eagan, Minn.; daughters, Wanda (Malcom) Jewett, Beaver Creek, Ohio, and Roxanne (Wes) Lynnes, Grand Forks; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Services: 3 p.m. Monday, United Lutheran Church Chapel.
Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. today, Amundson Funeral Home, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Kenneth L. Gudmundson
MOUNTAIN, N.D. -- Kenneth L. Gudmundson, 61, Mountain, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at home.
Kenneth Lloyd Gudmundson was born Oct. 4, 1938, the son of Conrad and Briet (Gunnarson) Gudmundson, in Grafton, N.D. He grew up and attended school in Mountain. He married
Shirley Bourbanis on Aug. 21, 1965, in Walhalla, N.D. He worked construction and ranched in the Mountain area.
He is survived by his wife; children, Karla Gudmundson, Fargo, and Keith, Chad (Jana) and Kenneth (Sandi), all of Mountain; a grandson; and sisters, Janice (Richard) Bjornson, Bismarck, and Margaret (Roger) Bjornson, Snohomish, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joann Fafnis; and a brother, Conrad.
Memorial Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Vikur Lutheran Church, Mountain.
Burial: Mountain Cemetery
