Gerald Nelson

THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Gerald "Gerry" Nelson, 69, Thief River Falls, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in Veterans Hospital, Fargo.

Gerald Duane Nelson was born Aug. 28, 1930, the son of Robert and Anna (Vasstrand) Nelson, in Thief River Falls, where he graduated from high school in 1948. He moved to California, where he attended City College in Los Angeles. He joined the U.S. Navy on Feb. 15, 1951. He was discharged Feb. 14, 1955. He moved to New York and was a social worker in Harlem, New York City and later in Minneapolis. He returned to Thief River Falls and worked for the city of Thief River Falls as a meter reader.

He is survived by a sister, Nona Mackenroth, Thief River Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Miloy and Donald.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Green Funeral Home Chapel, Thief River Falls.

Visitation: 2 to 7 p.m. Friday and one hour before services in the funeral home.

Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.

Military Rites American Legion and VFW Posts, Thief River Falls.

Shirley Lieder

CROOKSTON -- Shirley B. Lieder, 71, Crookston, died Monday, July 31, 2000, in Altru Hospital.

Shirley Bleck was born June 21, 1929, the daughter of Robert and Bertha (Mutterer) Bleck, in Buffalo, Minn. She graduated from high school in Rockford, Minn. She attended New Ulm Academy and moved to Minneapolis, where she was employed by Northwestern Bank. She married Bernard Lieder on Nov. 16, 1952. They moved to Crookston, where she was employed by First National Bank. She worked for Sundet's Toy and Hobby Shop. She retired in the early 1980's.

She is survived by her husband; daughters, Sue (Mark) Dundas, Wells, Minn., Heidi (John) Rahe, Rensselaer, Ind., and Jane (Ken) Whitter, Grande Cache, Alta.; nine grandchildren; and sisters, Marguerite (Clyde) Henson, Buffalo and Roberta (Ivar) Lemmage, McAllen, Texas.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Crookston.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service and one hour before services all in the church.

Burial: 1 p.m. Saturday, Elmwood Cemetery, Rockford (Stenshoel-Houske, Crookston).

Flora Vollrath

WALHALLA, N.D. -- Flora T. Vollrath, 88, Walhalla, formerly of San Diego, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, in Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla.

Flora T. Menier was born Oct. 14, 1911, the daughter of Fred and Olivine (Lepire) Menier, in Olga, N.D., where she attended school. She married Harry Vollrath on March 30, 1932, in Walhalla. They moved to California. Harry Vollrath died Jan. 23, 1981. She moved back to Walhalla in June 2000.

She is survived by sons, Rubert (Marlene), Winnetka, Calif., Lon (Diane), Hitterdal, Minn., and Robert (Pearl) Acton, Calif.; a daughter, Mary (Gene) Nielsen, San Diego; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by daughters, Marie and Norma Ann; sisters, Elise Crowston and Laura Ledoux; and a brother, Joe.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. rosary service, all in the church.

Burial: St. Boniface Cemetery (Nelson, Walhalla).

Daniel Halvorson

PEKIN, N.D. -- Daniel Halvorson, 68, Pekin, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, in Nelson County Health System-Hospital, McVille, N.D.

Daniel Stengrim Halvorson was born Sept. 6, 1931, the son of Rudolph and Nora (Donohue) Halvorson, in McVille. He grew up and graduated from high school in Tolna. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 11, 1954 to Feb. 10, 1956. He started farming in 1958. He married Marie Yetzer on Oct. 24, 1964, in Rosemount, Minn. He retired in 1993.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Ann (Harold) Rotunda, Fargo, Lora Halvorson, Bismarck, Susan Halvorson, Moorhead, and Brenda (Gault) Robinson, San Antonio; a son, Brian, Pekin; three grandchildren; brothers, LaVern (Liv), Laurel, Mont., Dennis (Sylvia), Redding, Calif., Art (Marie) Lakota, N.D., Terrence (Carol), Lawton, N.D., Aloyus (Arlene), Tolna, and Murill (Arlean), Cogswell, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Tolna.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. parish vigil, and one hour before services all in the church.

Burial: Tolna Cemetery (Stanley-Iverson, McVille).

Military rites: American Legion Post No. 162, Tolna.

Brek Ftacek

STREAMWOOD, Ill. -- Brek A. Ftacek, infant son of Michael and Laura (Moen) Ftacek, died Monday, July 10, 2000, in St. Joseph's Hospital, Streamwood.

He is survived by his parents; a twin brother, Sage, at home; and grandparents, Ken and Diane Moen, Bemidji, Lois and Dennis Warren, and Joel and Julie Ftacek.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.

Visitation: A half hour before services in the funeral home.

Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.

Albert Capouch

Albert Capouch, 39, Grand Forks, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in Altru Hospital.

Albert Capouch was born Jan. 4, 1961, the son of Albert and Marion (Bosh) Capouch, in Grand Forks, where he graduated from high school in 1980.

He is survived by his parents; brothers, Patrick (Pam), Blaine, Minn., Douglas (Jurrette), Billings, Mont., and Dean, Pelican Rapids, Minn.; and sisters, Jodi Capouch, Hillsboro, N.D., and Janelle (Walter) Sams, Minot.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, William and Josephine Bosh and Phillip and Mary Capouch.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, Holy Family Catholic Church.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7: 30 wake service, Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery.
