Howard Loiland
Howard T. Loiland, 72, 4000 Valley Square, Woodside Village, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at home.
Howard Truman Loiland was born Dec. 26, 1927, the son of Halvor and Thorine (Hofstad) Loiland, in rural East Grand Forks. He grew up and attended school in Walle Township, Grand Forks County, N.D. He worked with his father on the family farm.
He is survived by a sister, Helen (Hilman) Moen, Michigan, N.D.; and a brother, Norris (Marcie), Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: East Walle Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Development Homes, Grand Forks.
Tamra Mahone
EDMORE, N.D. -- Tamra Mahone, 35, Troy, Mich., formerly of Edmore, died of cancer Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at the home of her aunt and uncle, Pam and David Offerdahl, Casselton, N.D., where she had lived for the past three months.
Tamra Joy Studsrud was born Dec. 18, 1964, the daughter of John and Jacquelyn (Bakkum) Studsrud, in Grand Forks. She attended school in Park River, N.D., and graduated from high school in Edmore, in 1983. She attended North Dakota State University and Josef's School of Hair Design in Minot. She worked at Hair Kamp in Grafton, N.D., and then moved to Fargo, where she worked for Dayton's as a Lancome sales consultant. She later worked at Dayton, Hudson & Marshall Fields stores in South Bend, Ind., Chicago and Minneapolis. She worked at Macy's in the Mall of America until retiring due to health. She married
Sean Mahone on June 12, 1992, in Minneapolis.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Evan, Troy, Mich.; her mother, Jacquelyn (Dennis) Melland, Edmore; her father, John (Doreen) Studsrud, Dickinson, N.D.; a sister, Kimberly (David) White, West St. Paul; a brother, Jason (Patty), Mesa, Ariz.; half brothers, Jon Studsrud, Fargo, Justin Studsrud, Grand Forks and Derek and Taylor Studsrud, both of Dickinson; half sisters, Megan Studsrud, Grand Forks, and Erin Studsrud, Dickinson; stepsisters, Laurie Morrison, Seattle, and Tanya (Paul) Rambo, Edina, Minn.; grandmothers, Lois Bakkum, Mayville, N.D., and Mabel Studsrud, Williston; and a step-grandmother, Anna Melland, Edmore.
She was preceded in death by grandfathers, Clarence Bakkum and Hartwick Studsrud.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, Concordia Lutheran Church, Edmore.
Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Tollefson Funeral Home, Park River, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: 4 p.m. Monday, Gran Lutheran Cemetery, Mayville, N.D.
Ruben Halvorson
NORTHWOOD, N.D. -- Ruben Halvorson, 69, Northwood, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Ruben Halvorson was born March 24, 1931, the son of David and Emma (Kampaugh) Halvorson, in Northwood, where he attended school. He married
Juanita Gerszewski in 1962, in Grand Forks. They lived in Northwood, where he worked as a mechanic at Korsmo Oil and Uglem Ness and for area farmers. Juanita Halvorson died April 7, 1979. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957.
He is survived by a son, Corey (Suzie), Worden, Mont.; daughters, Gaylynn Phillips, Aptos, Calif., and Rhea (Tom) Fontaine and Darcy Halvorson, both of Billings, Mont.; 16 grandchildren; sisters, Ethel Halvorson, Aneta, N.D., Madeline Nelson, Grand Forks, Mina Tinjum, Seattle, and Elaine (Jim) Doyle, Orr, N.D.; and stepsons, Ardell (Ann) Halvorson, Billings, and John (Hannah) Fischer, Park City, Mont.
He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Halvorson Tollefson; brothers, Perdin and Daniel; and sisters, Doreen and Ruth.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Northwood.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Bilden Funeral Home, Northwood.
Burial: South Cemetery, Northwood.
Florian Wosick
GRAFTON, N.D. -- Florian Wosick, 82, Grafton, died Sunday Oct. 8, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Florian Joseph Wosick was born July 10, 1918, the son of Walter and Marie (Konigorski) Wosick in Acton Township, Walsh County, N.D., where he attended school. He graduated from high school in Drayton, N.D., in 1937. He married
Sarah Kosmatka in 1940, in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis and Washington before moving to Walsh County. He was co-owner of Wosick Brothers Construction.
He is survived by his wife; children, Jane, Mesa, Ariz., Daryl (Elsie), Grand Forks, Frederick (Beth), Bismarck, Dr. William, Minocqua, Wis., and Janice, Chandler, Ariz.; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Benjamin in Florida, and Dennis in Nevada; and a sister, Delores, Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by a son, Allen; brothers, Wallace, Henry, and Alex; and a sister, Helen.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, St. John the Evangalist Catholic Church, Grafton.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Henriksen-Kamrowski Funeral Home, Grafton, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Church cemetery.
John Matheson
LARIMORE, N.D. -- John Matheson, 76, Larimore, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at home.
John Black Matheson was born Dec. 6, 1923, the son of John and Minnie (McLeod) Matheson, in Milton, N.D., where he graduated from high school in 1941. He attended Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He worked for the Great Northern/Burlington Northern railroad as an agent/telegrapher in Lakota, Osnabrock and Langdon, N.D. He retired in 1985. He moved to Larimore.
He is survived by his wife; a son, John Paul; a daughter, Katherine (Keith Dempsey), Washington; three grandchildren; a brother, Robert, Maryland; and sisters, Betty Lee, Larimore and Viola Majovski, California.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille; and brothers, Allen and Maurice.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, St. Stephen's Church, Larimore.
Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. today, Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore.
Burial: Milton (N.D.) Cemetery.
Military rites: Eagleson-Meling American Legion Post of Milton (Bakke, Larimore).
Orville Thureen
Orville Thureen, 76, rural East Grand Forks, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at home.
Orville Thureen was born April 28, 1924, the son of Oscar and Clara (Flatten) Thureen, in rural East Grand Forks. He attended school in Crookston. He served in the U.S. Army. He farmed in East Grand Forks. He married
Betty Hanson on March 30, 1985.
He is survived by his wife; stepdaughters, Nancy (Jon) Mankie and Sandra (Earl) Bartlette, both of East Grand Forks; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and brothers, Allen (Alice) and Gordon (Faythe), both of East Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Arlene White; and a sister, Clarice Widseth.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Bethany Lutheran Church, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: North Bethany Cemetery.
