Keith Cleveland
Keith W. "Ole" Cleveland, 66, Coon Rapids, Minn., formerly of East Grand Forks, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at home.
Keith W. Cleveland was born Dec. 20, 1933, the son of Sigvald and Gladys Cleveland, in East Grand Forks. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Lyla; a daughter, Lara (Robb) Tronson; a granddaughter; a sister, Lois Haggerty; and brothers, Richard (Judy), Joel (Kathy) and Robin (Darlene).
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Virginia Garcia and Carole Higgs.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Faith Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids.
Visitation: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, with a 1 p.m. prayer service, in Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids.
John Klemer
LARIMORE, N.D. -- John Klemer, 72, Bismarck, died Nov. 16, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital.
John Neal Klemer was born Feb. 6, 1928, the son of William and Mary (Rudser) Klemer, in Grand Forks. He grew up in Larimore and graduated from high school there in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army. He attended UND, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in geology from the school of engineering in 1952. He worked with the Cities Service Oil Co. in Casper, Wyo., and Bismarck, and the L.J. Williamson Drilling Co. in Denver before joining Steven Harris and James Brown in 1960 to form Harris Brown and Klemer Consulting Geologists. He retired in 1988.
He is survived by his wife, Joan (Blair); sons, Lawrence, Bismarck, and Neal (Linda), Seattle; and a sister, Peg (Wally) Stokes, Williston, N.D.
Services: Were held in Bismarck.
Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Memorials are suggested to the Dakota Zoo.
Alvin Lerfald
PORTLAND, N.D. -- Alvin Lerfald, 85, Portland, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, in Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, N.D., where he had lived since 1998.
Alvin Lerfald was born Oct. 24, 1915, the son of Nels and August (Anderson) Lerfald, in Morgan Township, N.D., where he attended school. He married
Oleen Knutson on Sept. 7, 1940, in Hatton, N.D. They lived near Hatton, where they farmed. They retired in 1980. They moved to Portland in 1995.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Allen (Ruby), Champlin, Minn., Luther (Jane), Hatton, and Darrell (Roberta), Portland; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Aagot (Jerry) Nysveen, Hillsboro, N.D.; and stepsisters, Marge Aasen and Solveig Hovland, both of Mayville, and Eileen Amb, Portland.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dwayne; and a brother, Reuben.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Bethany Lutheran Church, Hatton.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Bethany Cemetery, Hatton.
Frida Brainerd
MAYVILLE, N.D. -- Frida Brainerd, 85, Mayville, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2000, in Luther Memorial Home, Mayville.
Frida Vigen was born Aug. 25, 1915, the daughter of Iver and Caroline (Holm) Vigen, in Golden Lake Township, where she attended school. She attended Mayville State College. She married
Herbert Brainerd on July 11, 1940, in Hatton, N.D. They farmed in the Portland, N.D., area where she taught school. She retired in 1971. In 1981, they moved into Portland.
She is survived by daughters, Jan (Burt) Hardel, Lakeville, Minn., Dianne (Dennis) Roden, Fargo, Kathy (Ken) Strand, Eau Claire, Wis., and Cindy Johnson, Farmington, Minn.; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Blondie Anderson, Lenora (Kenneth) Amundson, and Irene Hanson, all of Hatton.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Harry, Irvin, Clarence, Kermit, Wallace, Ilan, and Ansgard; and sisters, Bernice Johnson and Thelma Haroldson.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Little Forks Lutheran Church, Hatton.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Little Forks, Hatton.
Meryl Lunde
Meryl L. Lunde, 52, 518 Cottonwood St., died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, in Grand Forks.
Meryl Leonard Lunde was born May 11, 1948, the son of Leonard and Emily (Dufke) Lunde, in Grand Forks, where he graduated from high school in 1966. He later attended UND. He worked for American Crystal Sugar, East Grand Forks.
He is survived by a son, Brandon (Christy) Burke, Fargo; daughters, Kelly Burke, Rachel Lunde and Elizabeth Lunde, all of Grand Forks; a grandson; his mother, Grand Forks; and a brother, Lyle (Cathy), Coon Rapids, Minn.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Evonne Lunde and Sharon Rice-Fleur.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, Augustana Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery, Grand Forks (Amundson, Grand Forks).
Francis Curran
Francis A. Curran, 90, Detroit Lakes, Minn., formerly of Grand Forks, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, in St. Mary's Nursing Center, Detroit Lakes.
Francis A. Curran was born Jan. 18, 1910, the son of Peter and Catherine (Devine) Curran, in Grand Forks, where he attended school. He attended UND. He farmed near Grand Forks and worked for Swingen Construction. He worked for several years for Boeing in North Dakota and Washington. He also worked for the U.S. Navy. He married
Ruth Karlstad on Dec. 22, 1935, in Grand Forks.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Yvonne (John) Jacobson, Detroit Lakes; sons, Richard (Darlene), Mounds View, Minn., and Dean, Grand Forks; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; a sister; and three brothers.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Helen Plutowski
WARSAW, N.D. -- Helen Plutowski, 97, Warsaw, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, in Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton, N.D., where she has lived since Feb. 1, 1993.
Helen Rogalla was born May 26, 1903, the daughter of Joseph and Frances (Wysocki) Rogalla, in Pulaski Township, Walsh, County, N.D. She married
Leo Plutowski on Nov. 5, 1923 in Warsaw. They farmed in Walshville Township. Leo Plutowski died May 18, 1953. In 1970, she moved to Warsaw.
She is survived by children, Edwin (Evelyn), Ardoch, N.D., Beatrice (Halward) Dipple, Grafton, N.D., Louise (Emil) Votava, Grand Forks, Robert (Dorothy), Warsaw; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Rose Schaefer, Chicago; a brother, Edwin, Grand Forks; and a half brother, Hiliadore Sczesny, Warsaw.
She was preceded in death by sons, Eugene and James; a grandson; brothers, Ted, Emil and Sylvester; a half sister, Loretta; and a half brother, Ernest.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Warsaw.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Henriksen-Kamrowski Funeral Home, Grafton, and one hour before services in the church.
