Marie Martin

CROOKSTON -- Marie L. Martin, 88, Crookston, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in Riverview Hospital, Crookston.

Marie Lenora Lucking was born Nov. 20, 1912, the daughter of Anthony and Agnes (Doll) Lucking, in Perham, Minn., where she graduated from high school in 1930. She married Gordon Martin on June 22, 1935, in Perham. In 1936, they moved to Crookston. She worked for Central High School, Crookston, as a teacher's aide during the 1970s. They spent their summers at Ely, Minn. Gordon Martin died Jan. 16, 1993.

She is survived by a daughter, Marcia (Harry) Homer, Ely; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Martin (Larry Barnett), Blaine, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, David; a brother, Bud; and a sister, Clara Klemaske.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Crookston.

Visitation: Two hours before services in the cathedral.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Crookston (Stenshoel-Houske, Crookston).

Stanley Walters

BEMIDJI -- Stanley "Sonny" Walters, 68, Bemidji, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at home.

Stanley James Walters was born Nov. 24, 1932, the son of Joseph and Helen (Lee) Walters, in Grant Valley Township, Beltrami County, Minn., where he attended school. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Decker on Nov. 5, 1955, in Bemidji, where they lived. He worked for the David Park Creamery until 1965, when he began working construction. Elizabeth Walters died Dec. 28, 1964. He married Evelyn Hightshoe on June 1, 1968, in Puposky, Minn. They lived in Bemidji. In 1979, he began working for Northern National Bank, Bemidji.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Danette (David) Hemp, Michelle (Floyd) Hurley and Lisa Walters, all of Bemidji, Eldora Frye, Dover, Ohio, Terese (Henry) Kahlstorf, Laporte, Minn., Lori (Duane) Westcott, Ada, Minn., and Bertha (Sheldon) Langager, Owatonna, Minn.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; sisters, Marie Brown and Martha (Howard) Watts, both of Bemidji, and Barbara (Arnie) Julin, Shevlin, Minn.; and brothers, Gordon (Eleanore), Bemidji, and David (Judy), Coon Rapids, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, and one hour before services both in the funeral home.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Bemidji.

Daniel Wright

BEMIDJI -- Daniel H. Wright, 41, Bemidji, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, in Clearbrook, Minn.

Daniel Howard Wright was born June 7, 1959, the son of Stuart and Dorothy (Sampson) Wright, in Bemidji, where he graduated from high school. He graduated from Detroit Lakes (Minn.) Vo-Tech. He married Naomi Danielson in Bemidji. They lived in Bemidji, where he worked for Stuarts Inc. He married Crystal Bratvold on June 13, 1991, in Two Harbors, Minn. They lived in Wilton, Minn., where he owned and operated Dan's Auto, Bemidji. He moved to Park Rapids, Minn., where he worked for RDO Co. in refrigeration maintenance.

He is survived by his wife, Crystal, Clearbrook; sons, Wesley, Fargo, and Daniel and Andrew, both of Detroit Lakes; a daughter, Kassundra Wright, Clearbrook; a stepson, Christopher Bratvold Wright, Clearbrook; his parents, Stuart and Lucille Wright, Bemidji; brothers, Jim (Sylvelin), Las Vegas, and Gary (Diane), Bemidji; a stepsister, June (Ron) Cole, Wyoming, Minn.; and a stepbrother, Bob (Diana) Rowles, East Bethel, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy.

Services: 11 a.m. today, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.

Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.

Burial: Greenwood Cemetery.

Dorothy Franson

DEVILS LAKE -- Dorothy G. Franson, 64, Devils Lake, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at home.

Dorothy Gladys Novak was born March 21, 1936, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Greicar) Novak, in Lankin, N.D., where she attended high school. She married Rodney Franson on April 11, 1959, in Park River, N.D. They lived in Devils Lake. She was a waitress in Park River and Devils Lake and also worked at Cox's Bakery and Carlson's Bakery, both in Devils Lake. They were resident apartment managers for 27 years for Sweet Water Apartments, Devils Lake.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Lonna (Ernie) Streifel, Harvey, N.D.; a granddaughter; a brother, Bernard (Marge), Grafton; and sisters, Regina (Arnold) Freije, Warroad, Minn., and Judy (George) Fuller, Mandan, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Edith Kovarik and Elaine.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.

Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and before services in the church.

Burial: Valley Grove Lutheran Cemetery, Kloten, N.D.

Hannah Anderson

CROOKSTON -- Hannah C. Anderson, 94, Crookston, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, in Riverview Nursing Home, Crookston.

Hannah C. Hanson was born Feb. 18, 1906, the daughter of Lauris and Marit (Mary Running) Hanson, in Twin Valley, Minn., where she attended school. She married Charles Anderson on July 16, 1929, in Wadena, Minn. They lived in Twin Valley before moving to Crookston in 1941. She worked for Knutson Cafe, Twin Valley, for American Crystal Sugar Co., Crookston, at the American Legion Post No. 20., and for the Eagles Club.

She is survived by sons, John, Verndale, Minn., and Bruce (Bonita), Crookston; daughters, JoAnn Thorp, Crookston, and Judith (David) Vick, Moorhead; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Mabel Fischer, Shreveport, La., Ida Saker, St. Paul, and Myrtle Johnson, Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Charles; a granddaughter; brothers, Leonard and Clifford; a sister, Lydia Lindback; and a son-in-law, Ernest Thorp.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Crookston.

Visitation: 9 a.m. until time of services in the church.

Burial: Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston (Stenshoel-Houske, Crookston).

Esther Solseng

THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Esther Solseng, 90, Thief River Falls, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.

Esther Bakken was born April 18, 1910, the daughter of Carl and Sina (Brakke) Bakken, in North Township, Pennington County, Minn., where she attended school. She worked as a cook on several farms in North Dakota. She married Martin Solseng on Nov. 8, 1933, in McCanna, N.D. They lived and farmed in Hickory Township, Pennington County. In 1943, they moved to Norden Township, Pennington County. Martin Solseng died in 1968. She worked for Hartz Warehouse, packaging department, from 1971 to 1980.

She is survived by children, Martin Jr. (Louise), Thief River Falls, Harold (Karin), Kaiserslautern, Germany, and Elton (Colleen), West Fargo; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Mabel Olson, Keewatin, Minn., and Erma (Fred) Wilde, Thief River Falls; and a foster son, Daryl Lewis, Thief River Falls.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin; and sisters, Hannah Arveson, Jennie Sunsdahl, Selma Nash, Lila Martinson and Palma Strand.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Oak Ridge Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Norden Cemetery, Norden Township, Pennington County.
