William Dicken
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- William Dicken, 51, Thief River Falls, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000.
William Allen Dicken was born Feb. 16, 1949, the son of William and Laura (Cloutier) Dicken, in Thief River Falls, where he graduated from high school in 1967. He married
Marie Olson in 1969. He worked for Hartz Wholesale delivering groceries. He married
Meribeth Folkedahl on June 25, 1994, in Smiley Township, Pennington County, Minn.
He is survived by his wife; a son, William (Tami), Thief River Falls; a daughter, Lisa Dicken, St. Cloud, Minn.; stepsons, Scott Reay, Rockford, Minn., and Brett Reay, Grand Forks; a stepdaughter, Staci Reay, Rockford; three grandchildren; and a brother, John (Cheryl), Coon Rapids, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Linus Kalenze Sr.
Linus J. Kalenze Sr., 52, Grand Forks, died of cancer Thursday Dec. 14, 2000, at home.
Linus John Kalenze was born April 23, 1948, the son of LeRoy and Amity (Landowski) Kalenze, in Grand Forks. He moved with his family to Riverdale, N.D., and later returned to Grand Forks. He attended school in Riverdale and Grand Forks. He helped his brother with farming in Berthold, N.D. He worked in construction in North Dakota and Minnesota. He also worked for local contractors and with his brothers as a cement finisher in the Grand Forks area. He later owned and maintained rental properties.
He is survived by sons, Linus Jr. (Lynea), Shakopee, Minn., and Craig, Grand Forks; a daughter, Rebecca Kalenze, Grand Forks; two grandchildren; his father, Grand Forks; brothers, Mark, of Guam, Leslie (Ruth), Henderson, Nev., Joseph (Gail), Jerome, Greg (Mary Beth), all of Grand Forks, and Steven (Wendy), Mary Esther, Fla.; sisters, Heidi (Donald) Sundell, Maple Grove, Minn., Sr. Frieda CSJ, St. Paul, Mary Robinson, Fargo, and Kathy (Dennis) Johnson, Beloit, Wis.; and his fiancé, Emily Fossen and her daughter, Stephanie, Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and brothers, LeRoy Jr. and Kevin.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Andy Seim
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Andy G. Seim, 87, Park River, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in St. Ansgar's Hospital, Park River.
Andy G. Seim was born July 20, 1913, the son of Ole and Johanna (Flom) Seim, in Osford Township, Cavalier County, N.D., where he attended school. He married
Irene Moen on Nov. 24, 1938. They lived in Tiber Township, Walsh County, N.D., where they farmed. He owned and operated a livestock and freight trucking business from 1935 to 1980. In 1982, he moved to Park River.
He is survived by sons, Roger (Linda) and Curtis (Kristi), both of Park River, Arden (Nancy), Grand Forks, Kenneth (Vicki), Edinburg, N.D., and Tracy (Rodeen), Las Vegas; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Johnny (Gina), Milton, N.D., Kermit (Leona), Sioux Falls, S.D., Everett (Mary), Edinburg.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Edinburg.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Tollefson Funeral Home, Edinburg, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: St. Stephen's Lutheran Church.
Norman Erickson
PORTLAND, N.D. -- Norman Erickson, 84, Portland, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Norman Edwin Erickson was born July 2, 1916, the son of Eric and Oline Erickson, in Primrose Township, Traill County, N.D. He graduated from high school in Portland in 1934. He worked at Convair Consolidated in San Diego, and later joined the American Merchant Marines as a radio operator. He married
Nona Thoreson on Oct. 6, 1946. He was a Steele County commissioner from 1967 to 1983. He received his private pilot's license in 1983.
He is survived by his wife; children, Gail (Mark) Aaby, Mayville, N.D., Lauren (Janice), Portland, Jayne (Timothy) Swanson and Mary (Jeffrey) Brown, both of Sioux Falls, S.D., Susan, Ann Arbor, Mich., and Mylo (Lisa), West Fargo; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Perry Lutheran Church, Portland.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, and one hour before services in the church.
Carl Skurdall
DEVILS LAKE -- Carl "Tony" Skurdall, 63, Devils Lake, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Carl Anton Skurdall was born March 29, 1937, the son of Paul and Myrtle (Brudeseth) Skurdall, in Devils Lake, where he graduated from high school in 1955. He attended Jamestown (N.D.) College and Emporia (Kan.) State College. He served in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Wahpeton (N.D.) State School of Science. He returned to Devils Lake. He married
Bonnie Ganje on May 20, 1965, in Devils Lake. He worked for Pure Oil Co. as a bookkeeper and for Devils Lake Junior College as the bookstore manager and for the Park Board.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Paul (Rhonda), Devils Lake; a daughter, Linda (Randy) Olson, Devils Lake; two grandsons; his mother; and a sister, Ellen (Tony) Stappler, Boise, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to noon Monday, both in Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.
Robert Hanson
Robert Hanson, 67, Grand Forks, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, in Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks.
Robert Allan Hanson was born Jan. 20, 1933, the son of Hans and Lillian (Cederson) Hanson, in Fargo. He grew up and graduated from high school in Grand Forks. He married
Sharon on March 19, 1971, in Sisseton, S.D. He worked for Colborns School Supply as a salesman until retiring. He served on the Grand Forks City Council for many years.
He is survived by his wife; sons, John, Fargo, and Joe, Grand Forks; and a brother, Donald, Las Vegas.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Katherine Magnus
PETERSBURG, N.D. -- Katherine Magnus, 92, Petersburg, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, in Northwood (N.D.) Deaconess Health Center, where she had lived since November 1999.
Katherine Hanson was born Oct. 20, 1908, the daughter of Sevald and Emma (Anderson) Hanson, in Adler Township, Nelson County, N.D. She graduated from high school in Petersburg. She attended Mayville (N.D.) State Teachers College and taught school in Adler Township. She married
Oscar Magnus on June 16, 1932, in Petersburg. They lived and farmed in Adler Township. Oscar Magnus died Feb. 22, 1978.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley (Allan) Young, Leeds, N.D.; sons, Neil (Mavis), McCanna, N.D., and Elton (Yvonne), Petersburg; 11 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson and a great-grandson.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Lom Lutheran Church, Petersburg.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Lom Lutheran Church Cemetery.
