Lois Claver

Lois E. Claver, 83, formerly of Grand Forks, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, in Hillcrest Nursing Home, Red Lake Falls, Minn.

Lois Erna Scott was born Feb. 26, 1917, the daughter of Lowell and Clara (Lantz) Scott, in Langdon, N.D. She grew up and attended school in the Langdon-Wells area. She married Albert Bohn in 1936. In 1945, she moved to Grand Forks. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Deaconess Hospital, and a surgical nurse at the Grand Forks Clinic. She later worked as a foster grandparent in Grand Forks. She married Ray Claver in 1955. He died in 1972. She lived in St. Anne's Guest Home and Good Samaritan Nursing Home, East Grand Forks, until she was evacuated to Hillcrest Nursing Home during to the flood of 1997.

She is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Curt) Strode, Denver; and a granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gene Alden Bohn.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, United Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery, Grand Forks (Amundson, Grand Forks).

Stanley Chepulis

PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Stanley Chepulis, 82, Park River, formerly of Churchs Ferry, N.D., died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, in Park River Good Samaritan Center.

Stanley Vincent Chepulis was born April 19, 1918, the son of Ralph and Veronica Chepulis, in Philadel-¨phia. He moved with his family to Butte, N.D., and in 1936, they moved to Churchs Ferry. He married Crystal Johnson on Oct. 28, 1943, in Cando, N.D. They lived and farmed near Churchs Ferry until retiring in 1996. In November 1996, they moved to Park River.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Noanie (Dan) Kelly, Grand Forks, and Vernie (Glen) Wharam; Park River; seven grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Jean), Devils Lake; and a sister-in-law, Marion Chepulis, Fargo.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; a brother, Veto; and a sister, Viola Chepulis.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Zion Lutheran Church, Churchs Ferry.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and 8: 30 to 11: 30 a.m. Tuesday, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Leeds Cemetery.

Raymond Knutson

Raymond Knutson, 87, 615 First Ave. S., died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, in Altru Hospital.

Raymond Knutson was born Sept. 7, 1913, the son of Julius and Clara (Langlee) Knutson, in Emerado, N.D., where he attended school. In the 1930s, he moved to Grand Forks, where he worked for Whalen's Moving and Storage. He later worked for Pillsbury Co. of Grand Forks until retiring in 1983.

He is survived by sisters, Lillian Knutson and Ruth (William) Johnke, both of Grand Forks.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Allen.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, South Washington Street.

Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral chapel.

Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery, Grand Forks.

Frank Schell

DEVILS LAKE -- Frank Schell, 90, Devils Lake, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.

Frank Schell was born Oct. 12, 1910, the son of Jacob and Margaret (Ziegler) Schell, in Berwick, N.D. They moved to Devils Lake, where he attended school. He married Eva Schafer on Jan. 26, 1931, in Devils Lake. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for the Ottertail Power Co. in Devils Lake, where he retired as plant supervisor after 45 years.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Don (Leona), Penn, N.D., Jack (Audrey), Langdon, N.D., Gerald (Darlene), Eustis, Fla., and Harlon (Kay), Savannah, Ga.; daughters, Rosie (Fritz) Striefel, Largo, Fla., and Diane (Orly) Kjelshus, Souris, N.D.; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and sisters, Frances Pfeifer, Devils Lake, and Colleen "Carrie" Tyler, Owosso, Mich.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; brothers, Matthew, Valentine and Nick; and a sister, Margaret Weiser.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake.

Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with a 4 p.m. rosary and vigil service, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and before services in the church.

Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Military rites: Neathery-Simensen Post No. 756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Joseph Morseth

DEVILS LAKE -- Joseph A. Morseth, 89, Devils Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, in Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.

Joseph A. Morseth was born Aug. 21, 1911, the son of Ole and Karen (Bjugan) Morseth, in Edmore, N.D., where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1945. He married Agnes Johnson on Feb. 7, 1944. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1975.

He is survived by daughters, Gail (Byron) Bitar, Beaver Falls, Penn., and Janet (Bill) Corey, Arlington, Wash.; five grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and sisters, Gertrude Berntson, Edmore, and Olga (Robert) Wallace, Cando, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his wife; and a brother, Leif.

Memorial services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake.

Elfrieda Rohman

CUMMINGS, N.D. -- Elfrieda Rohman, 91, Cummings, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at home.

Elfrieda Hertha Mata Norenberg was born Sept. 18, 1909, the daughter of Otto and Martha Norenberg, in Gardena, N.D. She grew up in Cummings. She married Leo Rohman on Dec. 1, 1927, in Hillsboro. They farmed in Cummings until retiring in 1960. She also wrote for the Traill County Tribune and Hillsboro Banner for more than 40 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor (Zane) Stigen, Cummings; a son, Dennis (Anna), Emmett, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Martha (Adolph) Gross.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Loretta Fortman; a brother; and two sisters.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, St. John Lutheran Church, Hillsboro.

Visitation: 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, Wildeman Funeral Home, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Hillsboro.
