Alfhild Jakab
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Alfhild "Alfie" Jakab, 71, Park River, formerly of New Port Richey, Fla., and Long Island, N.Y., died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Alfhild Engelsen was born May 30, 1929, the daughter of Ragna and Anders Engelsen, in Porsgrunn, Norway. She grew up in Oslo, Norway, before moving to the United States in 1948. She married
Hans Stimple in 1950 in New York. He died in 1957. She married
Andras Jakab in New York in 1959. She moved to Florida in 1978. She worked as a missionary to Haiti with Mission Possible of Fort Pierce, Fla. She also served with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) in Tyler, Texas.
She is survived by sons, Michael (Suzanne) Jakab, Fair Haven, Vt., and John (Michelle) Jakab, Clearwater, Fla.; daughters, Liv Sannum Tonsberg, Norway, Carolyn (Arthur) Bye, Park River, and Katheen (Richard) Hess, New Port Richey; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister Solveig (John) Stagrim, Blaker, Norway.
She was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Jakab.
Memorial services: Will be held in Florida.
Ronald Gador
Ronald "Chub" Gador, 59, 3624 Landeco Lane, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Ronald Theodore Gador was born Jan. 20, 1941, the son of Theodore and Lottie (Blackmore) Gador, in Grand Forks, where he attended school. He worked for Skinner Roofing. He was a truck driver for Lewis Truck Lines, Grand Forks. He retired in 1998. He married
Lorraine Branvold in August 1965, in Aberdeen, S.D.
He is survived by sons, Darin (Cindy), Thompson, N.D., Shane (Sandi), East Grand Forks, and Robbi (Jennifer), Georgetown, Ohio; seven grandchildren; a brother, Bob (Adeline), Grand Forks; and a sister, Joyce Gregoire, Hemet, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard; and a sister, Grace.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sharon Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Velores Fayette
Velores Fayette, 65, Highland, Ind., formerly of Grand Forks, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at home.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Fayette; daughters, Debi (Mark) Innes, Brainerd, Minn., Shelia Fayette, Golden Valley, Minn., Bonnie (Gary) Kleist, Griffith, Ind., Barb (Al) Gmeinder Fort Ripley, Mass., and Carol Martin and Teresa (Chris) LaRoche, both of Highland; sons, Roger (Lori), LaPorte, Ind., Mike (Barb), Hammond, Ind., and Steve, Highland; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beverly Nelson, Brainerd.
Services: Will be held today in the Family Christian Center, Munster, Ind. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Calumet Area or to the American Cancer Society (Burns-Kish, Griffith).
Ernest Gustafson
ORR, N.D. -- Ernest E. Gustafson, 79, Renton, Wash., formerly of Orr, died Nov. 22, 2000, at home.
Ernest Elsworth Gustafson was born April 27, 1921, the son of Oscar and Nellie (Foster) Gustafson, in Orr. He served in the U.S. Army, during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Silver Star. He lived in Grand Forks until 1957 when he moved to Renton. He worked as a painter for Boeing until retiring in 1982.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Gustafson; sons, Rick, Seattle, Danny, Kent, Wash., and Ernie, Puyallup; a daughter, Judy Binkley, Renton; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pearl Kroocmo, in North Dakota.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Roy Willet, Earl Willet, Lem Willet, Jay Willet, Oscar Gustafson, and Carl Gustafson; and sisters, Gertrude Nelson, Philamoen Klein, and Francie Nelson.
Graveside services: Were held in Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent.
Hermalinda Roche
Hermalinda Roche, 52, Dilworth, Minn., formerly of East Grand Forks, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, in the Dakota Heartland Hospital, Fargo.
Hermalinda Arriaga was born Feb. 13, 1948, the daughter of Reynaldo and Erminia (Parado) Arriaga, in Tahoka, Texas. She grew up in Florida and moved to Grafton, N.D., in 1977. She worked at the Grafton State School. She married
Carlos Roche on Dec. 25, 1985, in Fort Meyers, Fla. They moved to East Grand Forks in 1983 and to Moorhead in 1997.
She is survived by her husband, Dilworth; her parents, Moorhead; adopted sons, Peter Cruz, Glyndon, Minn., and Angel Roche, Crookston; sisters, Minerva (Jose) Soto, Mary (Carlos) Martinez, and Lupe (Luis) Flores, all of East Grand Forks, and Marylou (Sylvester) Montalvo, Sanger, Texas; and brothers, Ralph (Ann), East Grand Forks, and Reynaldo (Villa) Jr., Golden Gate, Fla.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Felix.
Services: 2: 30 p.m. Saturday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks (Stennes, East Grand Forks).
Donald Erickson
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Donald Erickson, 76, Thief River Falls, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in McIntosh (Minn.) Manor Nursing Home, McIntosh.
Donald Landis Erickson was born Jan. 6, 1924, the son of Elmer and Belle (Peterson) Erickson, in Gully, Minn. He moved with his family to McIntosh, where he attended school. He graduated from high school in 1941. He farmed with his brother Wallace. He also worked at the South St. Paul Packing Plant. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp, and worked near Middle River, Minn. He returned to Hazel, Minn., where he farmed until his retirement. In 1995, he moved to Thief River Falls.
He is survived by brothers, Robert, Minneapolis, and Wayne (Sandra), Bedford, Texas; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Erickson, Thief River Falls, and Mary Ann (Harvey) Gagner, Mentor, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Erickson; and brothers, Wallace and Bruce.
Services: 9 a.m. Saturday, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. today Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and for one half hour before services in the church.
Burial: Clara Lutheran Church Cemetery, River Falls Township, Pennington County, Minn.
Sister Cecile St. Marie
CROOKSTON -- Sister Cecile St. Marie, 85, Crookston, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000.
Cecile St. Marie was born Nov. 29, 1915, the daughter of Emery and Alexina (Dubuque) St. Marie, in Crookston, where she graduated from high school in 1934. She joined St. Joseph's Academy and received the traditional garb and her name as Sr. Marie Madeleine in May 1935. She made her novitiate in Bourg, France. She began teaching in 1938 in St. Rose School, Argyle, Minn. She taught at the University of Ottawa. She taught from 1947 to 1950 in St. Joseph's School of Dryden and then at St. Michael's Separate School, Rainy River. She returned to the United States in 1965, and taught in St. Anne's School, Somerset, St. Joan of Arc, Minneapolis, and Holy Redeemer, Marshall. She was a tutor for remedial reading from 1972 to 1986. She retired in 1986.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Chapel of the Marywood Residential Community, Crookston.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Crookston (Stenshoel-Houske, Crookston).
Janelle Crocker
ANETA, N.D. -- Janelle "Nell" Crocker, 74, Aneta, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, in Parkview Health Center, Aneta.
Janelle Ward was born Aug. 15, 1926, the daughter of Nevelles and Ruby (Springer) Ward, in Hathorne, Miss., where she graduated from high school. She married
Willie Crocker on Nov. 3, 1951, in Gulf Port, Miss. They lived at several Air Force bases. In August 1968, they moved from Tokyo to Finley Air Force Base and later to Aneta. She worked for the Aneta Cafe. From 1976 to the mid 1980s she ran the cafe. She later worked for the Good Samaritan Home, Aneta.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Phyllis (Mike) Reinhart, Villa Grove, Ill., Kathy (Harley) Lind, Grand Forks, and Jo (Steve) Aslakson, Aneta; a son, Michael (Deb), Hillsboro, N.D.; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Charles (Margaret), Wiggins, Miss.
She was preceded in death by a sister; and three brothers.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Sundahl Lutheran Church, Aneta.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenley-Iverson Funeral Home, McVille, N.D.
Burial: Silent Hill Cemetery, Aneta.
