Margaret Hoselton
DRAYTON, N.D. -- Margaret A. Hoselton, 92, formerly of Drayton, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, in Unity Hospital, Grafton, N.D.
Margaret Ann McDermaid was born Dec. 20, 1907, the daughter of John and Margaret (Patterson) McDermaid, in Auburn, N.D. She graduated from high school in Drayton in 1926. She married
Arnold Hoselton on Nov. 13, 1928, in Hallock, Minn. They farmed in the Drayton area. In 1948, they moved into Drayton. Arnold Hoselton died Dec. 25, 1968.
She is survived by daughters, Darlene (Vernon) Larson, Drayton, and Opal Mattson, Stow, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Rolette; brothers, Dan, John, Archie, and an infant; a sister, Florence Whitlow; and sons-in-law, Clarence Scharmer, Roy Rolette, and Clayton Mattson.
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Drayton United Methodist Church, Drayton.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Adamson-Austin Funeral Home, Drayton.
Burial: Grafton City Cemetery, Grafton.
Henrietta Lee
GRAFTON, N.D. -- Henrietta Lee, 80, Grafton, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, in the Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton, where she had lived since Oct. 6, 2000.
Henrietta Clark was born May 2, 1920, the daughter of Henry and Esther (Napper) Clark, in Grafton, where she attended school. She married
LaClare Lee on Aug. 29, 1938, in Grafton, where they lived. He died Jan. 31, 1997.
She is survived by daughters, Nancy (Dennis) Ganyo and Judith Nord, both of Grafton, and Mary Jane Guy, Atlanta, Ga.; sons, Robert (Gayle), Harvey, N.D., and Rick, Grafton; 18 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gene; three brothers; and two sisters.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Federated Church, Grafton.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Tollefson Funeral Home, Grafton, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Grafton City Cemetery.
Rodney Bjerklie
Rodney M. "Rod" Bjerklie, 70, Park Rapids, Minn., formerly of Gilby, N.D., died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at home.
Rodney M. Bjerklie was born April 29, 1930, the son of Joseph and Gladys (Schlosser) Bjerklie, in Grand Forks. He grew up and graduated from high school in Gilby. He graduated from UND with a bachelor of science in commerce, in 1951. He married
Alene Rystad on Dec. 29, 1951, in Grand Forks. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served until 1955. He spent six months in Denver for auditors school and the remainder in Rapid City, S.D. In 1955, he began working for the Civil Service Department, where he worked as an auditor at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport until 1956. From 1956 to 1959, he worked as auditor at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, from 1959 to 1964, he was deputy auditor at the Minot Air Force Base, and from 1964 to 1978, he was deputy accounting and finance officer in Minot. In 1978 he retired. In 1987, they moved to Park Rapids.
He is survived by his wife; children, Janine, Duluth, David (Maria Matesanz), Montclair, N.J., and Patrick, Burnsville, Minn.; brothers, George (Betty), Meredith, N.H., John (Marjorie), Pittsburgh, and Jim (Sally), Snohomish, Wash.; sisters, Margaret Bjerklie, Meredith, and Anne (Stan) Stryjewski, Davenport, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Beth Bjerklie, Austin, Texas.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Peter.
Services: 11 a.m. Dec. 8, Calvary Lutheran Church, Park Rapids.
Burial: Bethel Cemetery, Park Rapids.
Military rites: Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post 212 (Cease, Park Rapids).
Katherine Hanson
Katherine Hanson, 84, 23 N. Third St., died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at home.
Katherine Elizabeth Ford was born April 18, 1916, the daughter of Francis and Lillian (Jewel) Ford, in Grand Forks, where she attended school. She graduated from UND with a degree in social work. She worked as a social worker in Benson County, N.D. She married
Henry Hanson on Oct. 23, 1945, in Minnewaukan, N.D. They lived in Devils Lake until 1956, when they moved to Grand Forks. In 1959, they moved to Thompson, N.D. Henry Hanson died April 30, 1987. She moved to Grand Forks in 1998.
She is survived by a son, Daniel, Faribault, Minn.; daughters, Claudia (Edward) Lemar and Kathleen Hanson, both of Thompson; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Norman Funeral Home, Columbia Road.
Visitation: Two hours before services in the funeral home.
Alice Huard
Alice M. Huard, 87, 1523 11th Ave. S., died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Alice Mary Ackerman was born May 10, 1913, the daughter of Louis and Katherine (Adams) Ackerman, in Reynolds, N.D., where she attended school. She married
Edward Huard on Nov. 6, 1930, in Reynolds. They farmed near Merrifield, N.D. They retired in 1972. They moved to Grand Forks on Oct. 12, 1985. Edward Huard died Feb. 2, 1997.
She is survived by daughters, Joan (Gerard) Gendreau and Lois Rygg, both of Grand Forks, and Cecelia (Roger) Guderjahn, Hoople, N.D.; a son, George (Joyce), St. Paul; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandson; sisters, Bertha Ackerman, Mary Ackerman, and Anna Hodson; brothers, Phillip, Theodore, Adolph and Albert; and a son-in-law, Wayne Rygg.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service and a 4: 30 p.m. rosary service, all in Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, S. Washington St.
Burial: St. Jude's Cemetery, Thompson, N.D.
Alvira Soliah
HATTON, N.D. -- Alvira Soliah, 98, Hatton, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in Tri-County Nursing Home, Hatton, where she had lived since February.
Alvira Morkve was born July 25, 1902, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Hanson) Morkve, in Northwood, N.D. She grew up and attended school in Lind Township, Grand Forks County. She graduated as a registered nurse from the Deaconess School of Nursing in Northwood. She worked as a nurse in Northwood and later in Los Angeles. She married
Conrad Soliah on Dec. 31, 1936, in Northwood. They lived and farmed near Hatton until retiring in 1963. Conrad Soliah died in May 1974. She moved into Hatton in 1977. She was a charter member of the Garfield Homemakers.
She is survived by a son, David (Cynthia), Grand Forks; two granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and a sister, Eleanor (Kenneth) Diehl, Fort Collins, Colo.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Bert, Arnold, Olaf and Martin; and sisters, Gladys Hegre, Gertrude Swenson, and Anna Arnett.
Services: 10: 30 a.m., Saturday, Bethany Lutheran Church, Hatton.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Bilden Funeral Home, Hatton.
Burial: Bethany Cemetery, Hatton.
Henry Thompson
GRAFTON, N.D. -- Henry O. Thompson, 103, Grafton, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton, where he had lived since Sept. 13, 1993.
Henry O. Thompson was born Oct. 8, 1897, the son of Guttorm and Emma (Nelson) Thompson, in Grafton, where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1943. He returned to Grafton and worked at the Grafton Developmental Center as a ward supervisor until retiring. He moved to Tufte Manor in Grand Forks.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Clara Thompson, Grafton.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Lutheran Sunset Home Chapel.
Visitation: One hour before services in the chapel.
Burial: Grafton Lutheran Cemetery.
Military rites: Grafton American Legion Post No. 41 (Tollefson, Grafton).
