Roy Kallestad
MICHIGAN, N.D. -- Roy Kallestad, 82, Plaza, N.D., formerly of Michigan, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, in a Minot medical center.
Roy Kallestad was born July 10, 1918, the son of John and Petra Kallestad, in Plaza, where he attended school. He married
Gladys Ophaug on Nov. 19, 1952, in Michigan. They moved near Plaza, where they farmed. In 1957, they moved to Binford, N.D. They moved to Garrison, N.D., before returning to Plaza in 1963. He also did carpentry work and drove school bus in Plaza. He continued to farm after retiring.
He is survived by his wife; sons, John (Bonnie), Willmar, Minn., and Rodney, Minot; daughters, Karen Kallestad (Dean Sauter), Polson, Mont., and Judy Kallestad, St. Paul; and two grandsons.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Thora Knutson
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Thora A. Knutson, 101, Park River, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Thora A. Hanson was born Sept. 19, 1899, the daughter of John and Hannah (Teslo) Hanson, in Mayville, N.D. In 1900, she moved to Park River with her family, where she attended school. She married
Samuel Knutson on April 29, 1929, in Thief River Falls. They lived in Park River. Samuel Knutson died in 1958.
She is survived by sons, Kenneth (Rosalee), Victoria, Texas, and Dennis, Indialantic, Fla.; and four grandsons.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ella; and a brother, Erling.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Park River.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Tollefson Funeral Home, Park River, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mary Axtman
DEVILS LAKE -- Mary Axtman, 90, Devils Lake, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Mary Eva Axtman was born May 18, 1910, the daughter of John and Veronica (Pfleiger) Axtman, in Devils Lake, where she attended school. She worked as a riveter at Vultee Aircraft Co. in Los Angeles during World War II. She returned to Devils Lake and worked as a sales clerk for the J.C. Penney Co. for 27 years until retiring.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Christine Axtman, Aztec, N.M.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Anton, Wendell, Frank and John.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with a 4 p.m. rosary and scripture service, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and before services in the church.
Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
Ronald Meyer
Ronald L. Meyer, Fremont, Neb., formerly of Grand Forks, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in NHS Clarkson Hospital, Omaha, Neb.
Ronald L. Meyer was born March 26, 1928, the son of Fred and Agnes (Arms) Meyer, in Barnesville, Minn. He grew up and graduated from high school in Grand Forks. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from July 11, 1946 to Dec. 31, 1947. He worked for the Great Northern Railway, Grand Forks for 13 years. He moved to Fremont in 1961. He worked as an area representative for Lystad Inc. of Grand Forks until retiring in 1993. He married
Barbara Lee on Dec. 12, 1952, in Grand Forks.
He is survived by a son, Mark (Kathy), Jackson, Mich.; daughters, Michelle (Jim) Brumm, Marla Meyer and Marsha (Mark) Reeson, all of Omaha, and Melissa (Kirk) Diers, Fremont; three grandchildren; and a sister, Elaine Seibel, Fargo.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dr. Glenn Seibel.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Moser Memorial Chapel, Fremont.
Visitation: 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m., all in the funeral home.
Burial: Memorial Cemetery, Fremont.
Military Rites: Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post No. 854 and American Legion Post No. 20. Memorials are suggested to Dodge County Humane Society, Fremont.
Mary Sindler
Mary B. Sindler, 90, 106 N. Third St., died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks.
Mary Barbara Sindler was born Feb. 11, 1910, the daughter of Frank and Rosalie (Sedevy) Sindler, in Veseley-
ville, N.D., where she attended school. She worked as a waitress in Grafton, N.D. and Rochester, Minn. She moved to Grand Forks where she worked at Wong's Cafe in East Grand Forks and for J.C. Penney Department Store, Grand Forks. She married
Walter Eichorst. They moved to Portland, Ore., in 1956. She continued to work for J.C. Penney Co., until her retirement in 1975. She returned to Grand Forks.
She is survived by sisters, Rose Fettig, Grand Forks, and Mildred (Camille) Sevigny, Grafton.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank.
Services: 1: 30 p.m. Friday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, with a 10: 30 a.m. rosary service, Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, S. Washington St.

Leslie Waanatan
FORT TOTTEN, N.D. -- Leslie Waanatan, 40, Fort Totten, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Leslie Allen Waanatan was born Dec. 30, 1959, the son of Jerome and Joan (Mathion) Waanatan, in Devils Lake. He grew up and attended school in Fort Totten. He worked at Sioux Manufacturing Company and Dakota Tribal Industries, Fort Totten. He also worked as a security officer at a casino in Lake Andes, S.D. He married
Anita Bear in 1977.
He is survived by a daughter, Diondra Waanatan, Fort Totten, a grandson; sisters, Lila (John) Anderson, St. Michael, N.D., Maxine (Raymond) Buckles, Fort Totten, and Carmen Abraham, Grand Forks; and a brother, William Sr., Fort Totten.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Donna Waanatan; a sister, Stephanie Waanatan; and a brother, Edward.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Michael, N.D.
Visitation: Begins at 5 p.m. Sunday, with an 8 p.m. rosary service, in the Tekakwitha Center, St. Michael.
