Hortense Loken
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Hortense Loken, 104, New Rockford, died Nov. 1, 2000, in Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, where she had lived since July 1995.
Hortense Kepner was born Aug. 28, 1896, the daughter of Millard and Emma Kepner, in New Rockford, where she graduated from high school in 1914. She taught school in McHenry, N.D. She worked for abstractors in New Rockford and Williston, N.D., and Sidney, Mont. She later worked for Sidney Bank. She married
John Loken on Dec. 3, 1938, in Glendive, Mont. He died Dec. 3, 1951. She worked at the bank until retiring. She returned to New Rockford.
She is survived by a sister, Hildred Hantel, Calistoga, Calif.
She was preceded in death by two sisters; and two brothers.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Thursday, United Methodist Church, New Rockford.
Burial: Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford (Evans, New Rockford).
Aaron Robertson
Aaron Robertson, the infant son of Amanda Robertson and Mark Danielson, 8196 15th Ave. S., died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, in Altru Hospital of spinal muscular atrophy.
Aaron Patrick Robertson was born March 27, 2000, the son of Amanda Robertson and Mark Danielson, in Grand Forks.
He is survived by his parents; a half sister, Jennifer Sunell, Grand Forks; a half brother, Christopher Danielson, Bismarck; grandparents, Patrick and Kandyce Robertson, Grand Forks; great-grandparents, Robert and Delories Deitz, Grand Forks; a great-grandmother, Ester Robertson, Grand Forks and a great-great-grandmother, Agnes Faulkner, Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by great-grandfather, Roy Robertson; and great-great-grandfather, Otis Faulkner.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, S. Washington St., and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Velma Collard
BEMIDJI -- Velma M. Collard, 93, Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Bemidji, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, in Manor Care Nursing Home, Sarasota.
Velma M. Grife was born Aug. 7, 1907, the daughter of John and Luella (Hall) Grife, in Barnes City, Iowa, where she attended school. In 1920, she moved to Minnesota. She graduated from high school in Bemidji in 1926. She married
Clayton Collard on May 29, 1930, in Bemidji. They lived in 27 towns throughout Minnesota. She worked for J.C. Penney, Bemidji, from 1952 to 1972.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Lou (Marty) Dinneen, Eagen, Minn.; a son, C.W. "Bill" (Ellen), Sarasota; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth, Deer River, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, First Presbyterian Church, Bemidji.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji. Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church, Bemidji (Olson-Schwartz, Bemidji).
Maxine Buchholz
Maxine Buchholz, 51, Lehr, N.D., formerly of Grand Forks, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at home.
Maxine Charron was born June 5, 1949, the daughter of Lloyd and Clara (Moe) Charron, in Grand Forks. She lived in several north central North Dakota communities. She moved with her family to Minot in 1960, where she graduated from high school in 1966. She graduated from Minot State University in 1970, with a degree in education. She taught in Mott, N.D. and in 1972, moved to Lehr, where she taught school. She married
Henry Buchholz on Aug. 11, 1973, in Minot. They returned to Lehr. She also taught in Linton, N.D., from 1997 to the spring of 2000.
She is survived by her husband; and her mother, Wishek, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her father; and brothers, Stanford and Dale.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Zion United Methodist Church, Lehr.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Lehr City Cemetery.
Ethel Hewitt
CARRINGTON, N.D. -- Ethel M. Hewitt, 84, Carrington, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in Golden Acres Manor, Carrington, where she had lived for the past few years.
Ethel Marie Legacie was born Jan. 13, 1916, the daughter of James and Josephine (Taunt) Legacie, in Lawton, N.D. She married
Leslie Hewitt on April 17, 1933, in Devils Lake. They lived in Brocket, N.D., until 1936 when they moved to Sykeston, N.D. In July 1941, they moved to a farm near Sykeston. In July 1987, they moved to Carrington. Leslie Hewitt died March 4, 1988.
She is survived by sons, James (Darlene) and Jeffrey (Sharon), both of Carrington, and Jerome "Rusty" (Kathy), Christine, N.D.; daughters, Janice Davis, Edmond, Okla., Judith (Clyde) Johnson, Carrington, and Joelle George, Minot; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; brothers, James (Lorraine), Edmore, N.D., and Ernest (Dottie), Shelton, Wash.; and sisters, Rachel Roberts, Lakota, N.D., and Laura Strand, Devils Lake.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren; four brothers; and a sister.
Services: 1: 30 p.m. today, Federated Church, Carrington.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to noon today, Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Burial: Sykeston Cemetery.
Benora Stenslie
PEKIN, N.D. -- Benora I. Stenslie, 85, Pekin, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Benora Irene Stenslie was born July 19, 1915, the daughter of Oscar and Pauline (Stenslie) Stenslie, in McHenry, N.D. She grew up and graduated from high school in Pekin in 1933. In 1940, she moved to Fargo and attended Interstate Business College. In 1962, she moved to Portland where she worked for Meir and Frank Department Store as a sales auditor. In 1972, she returned to Pekin.
She is survived by a sister, Evelyn Hegvick, Fargo; and a brother, Clifford (Millie), Moorhead.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur; and a sister, Olga Seelye.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Pekin Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home, McVille, N.D., and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Pekin Cemetery.
