Ilah Wixo and Anthony Wixo
LARIMORE, N.D. -- Ilah "Gerry" Wixo, 70, Larimore, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, from injuries received in an accident. Anthony "Tony" Wixo, 71, Larimore, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, from injuries received in an accident.
Ilah Geraldine Rike was born Nov. 26, 1929, the daughter of Charles and Sere (Frette) Rike, in Thompson, N.D., where she attended school. She attended high school in Grand Forks. She worked as a caregiver at home for the mentally disabled.
Anthony Christian Wixo was born April 17, 1929, the son of Anton and Hanna (Frederickson) Wixo, in Niagara, N.D., where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He returned home in 1953. He worked as the superintendent of the power plant at the State Mill and Elevator until his retirement.
They were married
on Nov. 14, 1953, in Petersburg, N.D. They lived in the Grand Forks area.
She was survived by her husband.
They are survived by their son, Rick, Los Angeles; a daughter, Sherri (Lyle) Jeffery, Grand Forks; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He is survived by brothers, Fred (Beverly), Larimore and Einer (Ellen), Grand Forks; and a sister, Alice O'Hara, Missoula, Mont.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, United Lutheran Church.
Visitation: Two hours before services in the church.
Burial: 2 p.m. Thursday, Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore.
Military rites: Ted Valerius American Legion Post of Larimore (Amundson, Grand Forks).
Brig. Gen. Stuart Charlesworth
Brig. Gen. Stuart M. Charlesworth, USMC, Upperville, Va., formerly of Grand Forks, died Oct. 29, 2000, of heart complications.
Stuart Charlesworth was born in 1914 in North Dakota. He graduated from UND, with a bachelor of science degree in engineering. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps on July 1, 1936. He married
Elizabeth Hunt in 1940. He received a masters degree in personnel administration from Ohio State University in 1951. Following The Basic School, he served with the Marine Detachment aboard the USS Ranger. He later joined the 3rd Defense Battalion and went to Midway Atoll to coordinate and install the initial defenses for the island. Following the commencement of World War II, he served on Johnston Island and in the campaigns of Woodlark Island, Cape Glouster, and Peleliu. He served a tour of duty in Korea from April 1954 to April 1955, commanding the 1st Combat Services Group and 1st Services Regiment of the 1st Marine Division. He served as the Commanding Officer, Headquarters Battalion, Headquarters Marine Corps and Post Commander at Henderson Hall from June 1955 to July 1957. He married
Mary Callan in 1963. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat V for services with the 12 Defense Battalion on Peleliu Island. Following his retirement from the military, he worked for the National Academy of Sciences in the Engineering Department and later worked in real estate.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, Arlington; sons, Robert, Hot Springs, Ark., and John, Apex, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth.
Services: 11 a.m. today, Fort Myers Old Post Chapel.
Burial: Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors. Memorials are suggested to the National Naval Hospital, Bethesda in the name of Brig. Gen. Charlesworth Scholarship Urology Fund.
Myrtle Gjevre
LANGDON, N.D. -- Myrtle A. Gjevre, 100, Langdon, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, in Maple Manor Nursing Home, Langdon, where she had lived since 1988.
Myrtle A. Gjevre was born Aug. 1, 1900, the daughter of Ole and Marie (Flom) Gjevre, in Osnabrock Township, Cavalier County, N.D. She graduated from high school in Minneapolis. She attended St. Olaf College in Minneapolis, and UND. She taught school in western North Dakota for one year and then returned to Osnabrock Township. She reported the Osnabrock Township News for the Cavalier County Republican in Langdon for 50 years.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ed; and sisters, Ingeborg Mortenson, Evelyn Overby and Christine Gjevre.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, United Lutheran Church, Langdon.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Highland Lutheran Cemetery, Fairdale, N.D. (Tollefson, Edinburg).
Anna Evenson-Ulseth
Anna Evenson-Ulseth, 88, Parkwood Inn, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, in Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks.
Anna Larson was born Nov. 19, 1911, the daughter of Martin and Josephine (Thoreson) Larson, in Tynsid Township, Polk County, Minn. She grew up and attended school in the Climax-Eldred, Minn., area. She traveled the West Coast for a few years and returned to Climax. She married
Orville Evenson on Nov. 23, 1941, in Climax, where they farmed. she worked in Home Health Care for Polk County. Orville Evenson died Jan. 23, 1969. She moved to Crookston in 1974. She married
Clarence Ulseth on April 5, 1977, in Crookston. He died Jan. 2, 1994. She moved to Parkwood Inn, Grand Forks, in 1997.
She is survived by children, Duane (Myrna), Climax, Dorothy (Wally) Radi, East Grand Forks, and LeRoy (Peggy), Grand Forks; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Melvin (Gloria), Joliet, Ill., Elmer (Marion), East Grand Forks, Joseph (Blanch), Grand Forks; and Clarence's children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice; a son, Leslie; brothers, Adolph, William, Lars, Helge and Clifford; and sisters, Helen, Idella, and Anna.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Sand Hill Lutheran Church, Climax.
Visitation: 5 to 7: 30 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stennes Funeral Home Chapel, Climax.
Burial: Sand Hill Lutheran Cemetery.
Ella Glidden
BEMIDJI -- Ella Glidden, 85, Bemidji, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.
Ella Alvina Higdem was born Jan. 17, 1915, the daughter of Andrew and Emma Higdem, in Sletten Township, Polk County, Minn. She grew up and graduated from high school in McIntosh, Minn. She worked in Minneapolis as a domestic helper. She returned to McIntosh, where she worked as a bookkeeper for the Ford Garage. She married
Oliver "Bill" Glidden on July 24, 1944, in McIntosh. They moved to Bemidji in 1945. She worked as church secretary.
She is survived by her husband; and a sister, Bernice Smith, McIntosh.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Bethel Lutheran Church, Bemidji.
Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bemidji, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Evergreen-Northern Township Cemetery, Bemidji.
Nestor Metzger
LANGDON, N.D. -- Nestor Metzger, 79, Langdon, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, in Maple Manor Care Center.
Nestor Joseph Metzger was born July 19, 1921, the son of Severius and Lucy (Perius) Metzger, in Mount Carmel, N.D. He attended school in Wales, N.D., Langdon and Fargo. He joined the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942 and was discharged in 1945. He married
Helen Loreth on July 2, 1945, in Langdon. He owned and operated a TV and appliance store in Langdon for 39 years. He retired in 1985.
He is survived by his wife; children, Larry (Louella), Center, N.D., Lee (Verna) and Glen (Pat), both of Fargo, Ronald (Judy), Perham, Minn., Gene (Carol), Beulah, N.D., Sharon (Dan) Livingood, Langdon, Daryl (Shelly), Hazen, N.D., Lanette (Jay) Schmaltz, Nekoma, N.D., and Carla Rae Berry, Dallas; 26 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five brothers; and four sisters.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly; and a brother, Roy.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Langdon.
Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. today, Brooks Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. prayer service today in the church, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Langdon.
