Joseph Holweger Sr.

ARVILLA, N.D. -- Joseph Holweger Sr., 89, Arvilla, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, in Good Samaritan Center, Larimore, N.D.

Joseph Holweger was born April 24, 1911, the son of Jacob and Katherine (Holweger) Holweger, in Arvilla, where he attended school. He married Irene Molstad on June 29, 1935, in Grand Forks. They lived and farmed near Arvilla. They retired from farming in 1976. Irene Holweger died Nov. 28, 1988.

He is survived by sons, Jerome (Jan), Larimore, and Joseph Jr. (Sandy), Arvilla; daughters, Marlene (Howard) Jones, Tallahassee, Fla., and Joan Schulz, East Grand Forks; 18 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Christina Haug and Lillian Gregoire, both of Grand Forks.

He was preceded in death by a grandchild; a son-in-law, David Schulz; two sisters; and five brothers.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, United Methodist Church, Larimore.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Pleasant View Cemetery, Emerado, N.D.

Andrew Mulcahy

CROOKSTON -- Andrew Mulcahy, 96, Kelliher, Minn., formerly of Crookston, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, in Kelliher Care Center.

Andrew Mulcahy was born May 8, 1904, the son of Frank and Esther (Loftus) Mulcahy, in Crookston, where he attended school. He worked for area farmers. He married Ann Ondrush in the late 1920s. He worked on airfield construction during World War II in the West Indies. He returned to Crookston, where he worked until his retirement.

He is survived by daughters, Doris (Harris) Rivard, and Betty Morrison, both of Maplewood, Minn., and Elaine (James) Wentzel, Plantation, Fla.; sister, Helen Mulcahy, in California; and sisters-in-law, Lou Mulcahy, Crookston, and Lottie Mulcahy, Beltrami, Minn.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Bill, Pat and Mike; and sisters, Margaret, Agnes, Katherine, Adeline, Dorothy and Betty.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston.

Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Crookston.

Margaret Stauning

Margaret A. Stauning, 88, Grand Forks, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, in Valley 4000, Grand Forks.

Margaret A. Amundson was born Nov. 17, 1911, the daughter of Olaf and Rena (Nygard) Amundson, in Grand Forks. She married Lawrence Stauning on Sept. 24, 1939, in Grand Forks. She worked as a seamstress for Friedman Fur Co. in Grand Forks. Lawrence Stauning died Dec. 28, 1996.

She is survived by sisters, Lillian (Bill) Hemonover, Anaheim, Calif., Gladys (Harold) Rosenberg, East Grand Forks, Helen (Kurt) Schmuckal, Imperial Beach, Calif., and Dorothy Fore, East Grand Forks; and a brother, Roy (Sally), Grand Forks.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Maybelle Busby; and brothers, Donald and Arthur.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks.

Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.

Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery.

Adeline Schmidt

CARRINGTON, N.D. -- Adeline Schmidt, 87, Carrington, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, in Golden Acres Manor, Carrington.

Adeline Lechner was born April 14, 1913, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lechner, in Fessenden, N.D., where she attended school. She worked on the farm and delivered eggs and butter. She married Herbert Schmidt in September 1938 in Fessenden, where they lived. When World War II began, they moved to Redondo Beach, Calif., and worked in the defense plant. After the war, they moved to New Rockford, N.D. They later moved to Carrington. Herbert Schmidt died Sept. 22, 1972.

She is survived by brothers, Laurence (Elsie), Forest Lake, Minn., and Dr. Edgar (Evelyn), St. Paul.

She was preceded in death by her son, David.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington.

Visitation: 1 to 8 p.m. today, Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Burial: Carrington Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church.

Marjorie Mohagen

GRAFTON, N.D. -- Marjorie Mohagen, 71, Grafton, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, in Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton, where she had lived since May.

Marjorie Benjaminson was born Dec. 28, 1928, the daughter of Gudmundur and Runa (Halldorson) Benjaminson, in Grafton. She grew up and graduated from high school in Edinburg, N.D. She married Gordon Mohagen on Jan. 10, 1948, in Edinburg. They lived in Grafton, where she worked at the Deaconess Hospital for 13 years, serving as administrator for six of those years. She later worked as a bookkeeper for the Grafton Equipment Co. for 22 years. After retiring, she lived in Grafton and Fargo. Gordon Mohagen died Sept. 21, 1991.

She is survived by a son, Rodger (Roberta), Fargo; three grandchildren; and brothers, Paul, Grafton, and George (Hedda), Seattle.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Ivers.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Grafton Lutheran Church.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Thingvalla Lutheran Cemetery, Mountain, N.D. (Tollefson, Grafton)

Irene Graff

STARKWEATHER, N.D. -- Irene M. Graff, 81, Starkweather, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Irene Mae Elftman was born March 12, 1919, the daughter of Gust and Amelia (Werner) Elftman, in Hampden, N.D. She attended school in Munich and Hampden, N.D. She married Erling Graff on Sept. 20, 1939, in Starkweather. They farmed near Hampden. They moved into Starkweather in 1971, where she worked at KB Cafe.

She is survived by her husband; daughters, Janice (Jim) Olson, Dunnellon, Fla., and Joyce (Marvin) Carter, Starkweather; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence, Devils Lake; and sisters, Inez Wolf, Bismarck, and Sadie Lick, Blaine, Minn.

She was preceded in death by two brothers; and five sisters.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, United Methodist Church, Starkweather.

Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Cemetery, Starkweather.
