Vernon Eberly
LISBON, N.D. -- Vernon L. Eberly, 91, Lisbon, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in Lisbon Medical Center.
Vernon L. Eberly was born Feb. 9, 1909, the son of Luther and Marie (Runge) Eberly, in Fargo. He attended school in Valley City and Jamestown, N.D. He graduated from high school in Jamestown. He received a bachelor's degree from Valley City State University and a master's degree from UND. He married
M. Genevieve Rosseth on Oct. 4, 1932, in Valley City. He taught in North Dakota and later became a school administrator in several North Dakota communities, including Wyndmere, Larimore and Lisbon. He became Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction for the state of North Dakota. He retired in 1977.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Richard (Barbara), Phoenix, Vern (Clarene), Lisbon, and Paul (Connie), Racine, Wis.; a daughter, Judith (Jim) Bradshaw, Grand Forks; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Scott, Fairview, Mont., Marion Earlingson, San Antonio, and Joy Brooks, Spokane, Wash.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Beth Sease.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Faith Assembly of God, Lisbon.
Visitation: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon
Burial: Oakwood, Lisbon.
George Aljets
CARRINGTON, N.D. -- George Aljets, 82, Carrington, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in Golden Acres Manor, Carrington.
George Earl Aljets was born Dec. 29, 1917, the son of George and Laura (Trullinger) Aljets, in Carrington. He attended school in Wells County, N.D. He married
Dorothy Schaack on Dec. 18, 1939, in Carrington. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned to the area, where he farmed and delivered mail. He served as the Foster County Sheriff from 1949 to 1953. In 1949, he returned to farming, sold insurance, was a substitute police officer and owned and operated the Buchanan Motel from 1963 to 1980. Dorothy Aljets died April 15, 1999.
He is survived by sons, Robert (Connie), Harvey, N.D., George Jr. (Kay) and Thomas (Laurie), both of Carrington, and Ronald (Patricia) Iron Mountain, Mich.; daughters, Connie (Joel) Fischer and Joan (Norman "Butch") Petrick, both of Makoti, N.D., and Shirley (Chris) Charles, Carrington; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale (Lillian), Woodburn, Ore; and a sister, Maude Clark, Everett, Wash.
He was preceded in death by a son, Frank; brothers, Lyle and Francis "Bud"; and sisters, Esther Aljets, Pearl Linderman and Nellie Leoboldt.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, Federated Church, Carrington.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 8: 30 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Burial: Carrington Cemetery.

Clairebel Hayes
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Clairebel Hayes, 83, Thief River Falls, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Clairebel Doris Erickson was born Oct. 7, 1916, the daughter of Theodore and Gertrude Erickson, in Alvarado, Minn. She attended schools in Warren and Newfolden, Minn. She graduated from high school in Warren in 1935. She married
George Hayes on Sept. 6, 1935, in Northome, Minn. They lived in Big Falls, Minn., from 1935 to 1944. They moved to Thief River Falls. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter, Cleo Busbee, Huntington Beach, Calif.; a son, James, Thief River Falls; three grandchildren; and a brother, Earl, Thief River Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and brothers, Dean, Roy and Willard.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Thomas Harmon
PETERSBURG, N.D. -- Thomas "Roche" Harmon, 43, Fargo, formerly of Petersburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in Villa Maria, Fargo.
Thomas Harmon was born May 5, 1957, the son of Alfred and Ruth (Overland) Harmon, in Northwood, N.D. He grew up and graduated in 1975 from high school in Petersburg. He worked in the Petersburg area in farming and carpentry. He also worked in Grand Forks and Fargo. He lived on the East Coast for two years and on the West Coast for two years. He worked in manufacturing plants. He returned to North Dakota.
He is survived by his mother, Petersburg; and sisters, Donna (George) Hildre, Coon Rapids, Minn., Mavis (Leslie) Slettebak, Petersburg, Cheryl (Rano) Ellertson, Salem, Ore., and Ricki (Wayne) Landowski, Boynton Beach, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Petersburg Lutheran Church.
Visitation: After 4 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota, N.D., and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Petersburg Cemetery.
Lora Saunders
PETERSBURG, N.D. -- Lora Saunders, 73, Petersburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck.
Lora Ophaug was born Dec. 18, 1926, the daughter of Oswald and Mabel Ophaug, in Kloten, N.D. She grew up and graduated from high school in Aneta, N.D. She taught in several North Dakota schools. She married
Richard Saunders on July 1, 1951, in Kloten. They lived in Lakota, N.D., before moving to Petersburg in 1966, where they farmed.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Liz (Bill) Dietrich, Bismarck; three grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Matt, Plummer, Minn.
Services: 1: 30 p.m. Friday, Petersburg Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home, McVille, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Petersburg Cemetery.
Lillian H. Gregoire
THOMPSON, N.D. -- Lillian H. Gregoire, 86, Thompson, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at home.
Lillian H. Holweger was born June 10, 1914, the daughter of Jacob and Kathrina (Holweger), in Arvilla, N.D. She married
George Gregoire on July 15, 1941, in Larimore, N.D. They farmed in the Thompson area until retiring. George Gregoire died Aug. 23, 1992.
She is survived by a son, Wayne, Eden Prairie, Minn.; a daughter, Diane Olson, Grand Forks; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Christine Haug, Grand Forks.
She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas; brothers, Fred, Julius, Joe, Leslie and Edward; and sisters, Helen Bakke and Lydia Huard.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Judes Catholic Church, Thompson.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
Burial: St. Judes Catholic Cemetery, Thompson.
