Verna Kalin

DRAYTON, N.D. -- Verna M. Kalin, 87, formerly of Drayton, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in Tacoma, Wash., where she had lived since 1993.

Verna Margaret Anderson was born June 29, 1913, the daughter of Oscar and Gertrude (Dahl) Anderson, in Kennedy, Minn. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College and taught school in the Kennedy area. She married Paul Kalin on March 24, 1940, in Kennedy, where they lived. They moved to Drayton in 1958. She worked with her husband in the grocery business. Paul Kalin died Feb. 19, 1983.

She is survived by a daughter, Kris (Paul) Caldwell, Tacoma; two grandchildren; and a sister, Doris (Lloyd) Peterson, Hallock.

She was preceded in death by a son, David; a daughter, Diane Hansen; brothers, Dale and Bill; and sisters, Vera Stapp and Edythe Dovenmuehler.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Drayton Lutheran Church.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Adamson-Austin Funeral Home, Drayton.

Burial: Kennedy Cemetery, Kennedy.

Lloyd Sund

PICKERT, N.D. -- Lloyd Sund, 72, Pickert, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in Union Hospital, Mayville, N.D.

Lloyd Sund was born Jan. 20, 1928, the son of Conrad and Agnes (Lindbo Rostvedt) Sund, in Minot. He moved with his parents to Pickert, where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He returned and farmed in the Pickert/Finley area. He retired in 1990. He worked for area farmers until 1999.

He is survived by a son, Lloyd Jr. (Kelly), Finley; two grandchildren; sisters, Gerd (Calvin) Meyers, Alsen, N.D., Cora (Eggermont) and Janice (Dale) Steffen, both of Cooperstown, N.D.; and brothers, Orville (Phyllis), Finley, Delmer (Norma), Duluth, Minn., and Roy (Carol), Maple Plain, Minn.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, St. Petri Lutheran Church, Pickert.

Visitation: 3 to 7: 30 today, with a 7: 30 prayer service, Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Finley.

Burial: Pickert Cemetery.

Anne Lawonn

Anne Lawonn, 77, East Grand Forks, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at home.

Anne Corriveau was born Oct. 31, 1923, the daughter of Arthur and Marie (Lamontagne) Corriveau, in East Grand Forks, where she graduated from high school in 1941. She attended Aaker's Business College and UND. She worked in Seattle; Okinawa, Japan and Los Angeles. In 1947, she moved back to East Grand Forks. She married John "Jack" Lawonn on Jan. 10, 1948, in East Grand Forks. She worked as an executive secretary for American Crystal Sugar Co. for 20 years. She retired in 1983. John Lawonn died April 17, 1993.

She is survived by daughters, Michele Lawonn, Denver, and JoAnne Lawonn, Burnsville, Minn.; and sisters, Lucy Lamontagne, St. Marie, Quebec, and Marie Kennedy, Seattle.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Alyce Corriveau George.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks (Stennes, East Grand Forks).

Frank Seebart

LAKOTA, N.D. -- Frank C. Seebart, 91, Lakota, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in Lakota.

Frank Clayton Seebart was born Jan. 18, 1909, the son of Gustave and Amelia (Gaulke) Seebart, in Lakota, where he graduated from high school. He attended North Dakota State University, where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering in 1932. He was a member of ROTC and graduated with the rank of lieutenant. He served from 1942 to 1946 in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He worked as a paint chemist for 47 years. He also managed a resin plant and research work for American Marietta. After he retired, he returned to Lakota.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Bernice Ludtke and Mildred Brayton; and brothers, Harry and Archie.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, United Church of Christ, Lakota.

Visitation: After 1 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Lakota Cemetery.

Elizabeth Munn

CROOKSTON, N.D. -- Elizabeth "Betty" Munn, 75, Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Crookston, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at her son Ronald Munn's home, St. Paul.

Elizabeth Ann Sullivan was born July 16, 1924, the daughter of John and Gladys (Burket) Sullivan, in Fisher, Minn., where she graduated from high school. She completed nurses training and worked at hospitals in Crookston for 35 years. She married Ronald "Ronnie" Munn on Nov. 5, 1947, in Crookston, where they lived. He died Dec. 10, 1970. In 1983, she moved to Arizona, where she worked as a registered nurse. She retired in 1990.

She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl McNellis, St. Paul; sons, Ronald (Cynthia), St. Paul, Joseph (Bonnie), Crookston, and David, Florence, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Vera Koppang, Seattle; Gladys Hamilton, Sun City, and Jacqueline Maney, Glendale, Ariz.; and a brother, John "Jack" (Anna May), Des Moines, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by a grandson; and sisters, Jean, Nellie, and Mary Lou.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Crookston.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, and one hour before services in the church.

Marcel Dahl

STEPHEN, Minn., -- Marcel R. Dahl, 83, formerly of Stephen, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in Yucaipa, Calif.

Marcel Roy Dahl was born March 11, 1917, the son of George and Emma (Anderson) Dahl, in Drayton, N.D. He grew up and attended country school in Svea Township, Kittson County, Minn. He received his GED in Stephen. He married Ruby Grundstrom on June 27, 1941, in Teien Township. They lived and farmed in Eagle Point Township, Kittson County, until retiring.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Chester (Sherry), Toledo, Ohio, David (Laurie), Plymouth, Minn., Dennis (Robin) Nashville, Tenn., Wallace (Carolyn), Parker, Colo., and James (Mary), Kennedy, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Dahl, Hopkins, Minn.; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Evelyn (Ragnar) Engelbrektson, Drayton, and Jean Petersburg, South Bend, Ind.; brothers, Morris, Drayton, and Ronald, Kennedy; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Dahl and Florence Dahl, both of Kennedy, and Doris Dahl, Hutchinson, Minn.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce; brothers, Vincent, Robert, Willard and an infant; and an infant sister.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Teien Covenant Church, Drayton.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Adamson-Austin Funeral Home, Drayton.

Burial: Teien Covenant Church Cemetery.

Harold Bergman

Harold J. Bergman, 86, 615 1st Ave. N., died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in Valley Eldercare Nursing Center, Grand Forks.

Harold J. Bergman was born April 17, 1914, the son of Fred and Mary (Herman) Bergman, in Biscay, Minn. He lived in LaPlant and Mobridge, S.D., and Hollywood, Calif. In 1946, he moved to Grand Forks. He married Eunice Grady on Aug. 18, 1948, in Crookston. He worked at Gaffaney's Office Supply and Norby's Office Supply, Grand Forks, as a service technician. Eunice Bergman died in 1987.

He is survived by a daughter, Claire (Gerald) Erickson, Northfield, Minn.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks.
