Jerome Votava
CASHEL, N.D. -- Jerome "Jerry" Votava, 85, Cashel, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, in Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton, N.D.
Jerome Votava was born Feb. 1, 1915, the son of Frank and Cecila (Matcha) Votava, in Veseleyville, N.D. He moved with his family to Grafton, where he attended school. He married
Helena Deschenes on Nov. 5, 1934, in Oakwood, N.D. They lived in Cashel, where he owned Jerome Votava and Son Construction. He worked for the railroad and area farmers.
He is survived by daughters, JoAnn (Roger) Mattson, Cashel, Rosemary (Bryon) Watterud, Bismarck, and Marjorie (Joe) Ellefson, Mandan; a son, Dennis (Linda), Maple Grove, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Mary), Grafton, N.D.; and a sister, Emma Schanilec, Grafton.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Helen Votava; three grandchildren; four brothers; and four sisters.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oakwood.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 8 to 9: 30 a.m. Monday, all in Henriksen-Kamrowski Funeral Home, Grafton.
Burial: Church cemetery.
Clevia Rader
PINEY FLATS, Tenn. -- Clevia L. Rader, 81, Piney Flats, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, in NHC HealthCare, Johnson City, Tenn.
Clevia Hursey was born the daughter of Orman and Inez (Norvill) Hursey, in Loop City, Neb. She lived in Greeneville, Tenn., for several years and moved to Johnson City in 1998. She married
Thomas Rader. They managed the Parkway Motel, Greeneville.
She is survived by her husband; children and stepchildren, Rev. Jerald "Jerry" Finnestad, Grand Forks, Darlene Balon, Tuscon, Ariz., Thomas "Tommy" Rader Jr., Newton, Iowa, Charles "Chuck" Rader, Kingsport, Tenn., Sandy Sluder, Piney Flats, and Gary Rader, Radford, Ky; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Darwin, Cisco, Ill., and Richard, Cromwell, Ind.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Lauren, Warren, Darrell, and Dwayne "Bill".
Services: 8 p.m. Tuesday, Morris-Baker South Chapel, Johnson City.
Visitation: Two hours before services in the funeral chapel.

Margaret McEwen
GRAFTON, N.D. -- Margaret McEwen, 92, Grafton, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton.
Margaret McEwen was born March 1, 1908 the daughter of Farigal and Mary (Feeley) Gallagher, in Cashel, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from high school in Oakwood, N.D. She earned her bachelor's degree from UND and her masters in elementary education from UND at age 60. She taught in Grafton. She married
Dan McEwen on Dec. 28, 1936, in Grafton. They lived and farmed in St. Andrews Township and she taught in Drayton and Oakwood. They retired from farming in 1968 and moved to Grafton in 1975. Dan McEwen died Aug. 27, 1982.
She is survived by daughters, Mary (Cyril) Suda and Bonnie (Frank) Suda, both of Grafton, Judith (Ardell) Jefferson, Denver, and Doreen (John) Studsrud, Dickinson; 23 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson; and brothers, Thomas, Hugh and Farigal.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, St. John the Evangelist Church, Grafton.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Henriksen-Kamrowski Funeral Home, Grafton, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Church cemetery.
Beatrice Zander
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Beatrice "Bea" Zander, 94, New Rockford, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, in Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, where she had lived since 1998.
Beatrice T. Lies was born May 12, 1906, the daughter of Matthew and Mary (Subart) Lies, in Bremen, N.D. She attended school in New Rockford. She married
William Zander on June 7, 1934, in Bremen, where they farmed. They retired in 1975. In 1980, they moved to New Rockford. William Zander died July 24, 1998.
She is survived by a son, Myron (Kathy), Las Vegas; a daughter, Sharol (Victor) Rogalla, Minto, N.D.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Romeo, New Rockford.
She was preceded in death by a son Allen; and four sisters.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bremen.
Kenneth Ramsey
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Kenneth Ramsey, 69, Park River, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Kenneth Ramsey was born July 23, 1931, the son of Charles and Gertrude (Olson) Ramsey, in Grafton, N.D. He grew up near Park River. He attended Walsh County Agriculture School and college in Fargo. He married
Dorothy Momerak on June 6, 1954. He served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife; children, David (Jayne) and Dean, both of Park River, Robert (Debbie), Andover, Minn., Rick (Paula), Devils Lake, Dennis (Barb), Rolla, N.D., and Rennae, Spring Park, Minn.; a son-in-law, Monty Novak, Park River; nine grandchildren; a brother, Walter "Bud" (Ruthie), Park River; and sisters, Diana (Chuck) Wilson, of California, Phyllis Ellingson, Seal Beach, Calif., and Carol (Elmer) Peterson, Brooklyn Center, Minn.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Henriksen-Overbye Funeral Home, Park River, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River.
Ruth Bidon
GRAFTON -- Ruth Bidon, 79, Woodinville, Wash., formerly of Grafton, died from cancer Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000.
Ruth Ardella Mattson was born Aug. 12, 1921, the daughter of Ebert and Ruby (Stone) Mattson, in Grafton. She married
James Bidon on June 4, 1941. She served as a delegate to the "Scoop" Jackson campaign and also was a ballot inspector and judge for several elections. She worked for Boeing Company.
She is survived by children, James Jr., Kent, Wash., Robert, Cannon Falls, Minn., Michael, Kent, Mary Underland, Tumwater, Wash., LeNore Ednie, Waikolola, Hawaii, and Barbara Heald, Monroe, Wash.; 25 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna McCambridge and Guelma Belter, both of San Diego; and a brother, George Mattson.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Diana Bidon Andrews; a son, Edward; two grandsons; and a brother, Gordon.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a 6 p.m. rosary, in Purdy and Kerr Funeral Home, Monroe.
Burial: Carnation Cemetery.
