Sidney Thompson
ST. MICHAEL, N.D. -- Sidney G. Thompson, 11, St. Michael, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Sidney George Thompson was born July 12, 1989, the son of Marcella Thompson and Miles Left Bear, in Devils Lake. He lived in St. Michael, where he attended Pierre Indian School and Four Winds Elementary School. He participated in grass dancing at various powwows. He also enjoyed playing basketball and riding bikes.
He is survived by his mother, St. Michael; his father, Tokio, N.D.; a sister, Amanda Thompson, Bismarck; grandparents, Irene Left Bear, and Zachary Thompson, both of St. Michael, and Floyd McKay and Doreen McKay, both of Fort Totten.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Ambrose Thompson Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Sam Left Bear, Lena Denne and Veronica DeMarce.
Services: 10: 30 a.m., Saturday, St. Michael's Recreation Center.
Visitation: Begins at 4 p.m. today in the St. Michael's Recreation Center (Gilbertson, Devils Lake).
Mary Spence
CROOKSTON -- Mary Spence, 78, Crookston, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at home.
Mary Jane Freeberg was born Aug. 22, 1922, the daughter of Helmer and Marie (Petersen) Freeberg, in Minneapolis. She grew up and graduated from high school in Crookston, in 1940. She married
Floyd Spence on Nov. 27, 1942, in Crookston. She worked for the Draft Board in Crookston, and then went to Knutson Accounting. She then worked at Polk County Social Services until the late 1950s, when she began working for the Polk County Nursing Service. She retired in the mid-1980s.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Mike (Kathy), Golden Valley, Minn.; a daughter, Christine (Craig) Gjerness, Richfield, Minn.; and a granddaughter.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, First Presbyterian Church, Crookston.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: First Presbyterian Church Columbarium. Memorials are suggested to Crookston Hospice (Stenshoel-Houske, Crookston).
Edwin Koehler
THOMPSON, N.D. -- Edwin J. Koehler, 76, Bloomer, Wis., formerly of Thompson, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, in Luther Hospital, Eau Claire, Wis.
Edwin J. Koehler was born the son of Joseph and Tillie (Ruff) Koehler in Bloomer. He served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army during World War II. He married
Delores Fralich on Oct. 22, 1947, in Thompson, N.D., where they lived and worked for area farmers. They farmed in the Sand Creek area until 1975. The moved to Longmont, Colo. He returned to the area in 1992.
He is survived by a son, Dennis (Corinne), Pueblo, Colo.; a daughter, Judy (Ron) Cabrera, Vancouver, Wash.; five grandchildren; brothers, Joseph "Bud" (Beulah), Howard (Bunnie), and Robert (Leona), all of Bloomer; and sisters, Gertrude (Tom) Bresina, Tilden, Wis., and Kay Gorectke, Wausau, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, David; brothers, Louie and Leon; and sisters, Delores Irwin, Mary Horne, Helen Koehler and Lorraine Koehler.
Services: Were held in Bloomer.
Burial: Foot Hills Memorial Garden, Longmont.
Vernyll Yri
MINNEWAUKAN, N.D. -- Vernyll M. Yri, 70, Minnewaukan, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Vernyll Marlene Moran was born Sept. 23, 1929, the daughter of Victor and Mildred (Martinson) Moran, in Minne-¨waukan, where she graduated from high school in 1947. She attended Minot State Teachers College and taught in Aurora School District, near Minnewaukan. She married
Arnold Yri on Oct. 29, 1949, in Minnewaukan. She was a charter member of Trinity Free Lutheran Church and WMF in Minnewaukan.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Beth (Leo) Sayler, Crookston; a son, James (Diane), Minnewaukan; eight grandchildren; sisters, Arlys Morkert, Tucson, Ariz., and Donna (Norman) Heisler, Minnewaukan; and a brother, Dennis, Grand Forks.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Trinity Free Lutheran Church, Minnewaukan.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, and before services, all in the church.
Burial: Church Cemetery
(Nelson, Minnewaukan).
Willard Boutain
CROOKSTON -- Willard Boutain, 78, Crookston, formerly of Dorothy, Minn., died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at his daughter's home in Crookston.
Willard Gilbert Boutain was born Oct. 12, 1921, the son of Eli and Anna (Landa) Boutain, in Wylie Township, Red Lake County, Minn., where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army from March 24, 1945 to December 28, 1946. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and The Victory Medal. He returned to the Wylie area, where he farmed. He married
Angeline Lefebvre on July 21, 1962, in Red Lake Falls. She died July 4, 1990. He retired in 1993 and moved to Crookston, where he lived with his daughter, Kim.
He is survived by a daughter, Kim (Jon) Volker, Crookston; two grandchildren; stepchildren, Ronnie Cassavant, Thief River Falls, Shirley (Joe) Hanson, Alan Cassavant, Judy (Wayne) Violette and Orren Cassavant, all of Red Lake Falls, and DeeDee (Doug) Poole, Alexandria, Minn.; 14 step-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Harvey, Menahga, Minn., and Ralph, Thief River Falls; and sisters, Lucille (Paul) Starken, Biwabik, Minn., and Elsie (Jim) Wolner, Park Rapids, Minn.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Emil, Elmer, Herman, Edward, Andrew, Dale and Ray; and sisters, Mamie Meyer and Madeline Molskness.
Services: 1: 30 p.m. Wednesday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Red Lake Falls.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Johnson Funeral Service, Red Lake Falls, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: St. Dorothy Cemetery, Dorothy.
Military honors: American Legion Post, Red Lake Falls.
Frank Johnson
WALHALLA, N.D. -- Frank P. Johnson, 63, Walhalla, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, in Good Samaritan Home, Osnabrock, N.D.
Franklin P. Johnson was born Nov. 21, 1936, the son of Theodore and Alvina (Bergan) Johnson, in Osnabrock, where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve. He married
Marlene Hoff on March 17, 1963, in Walhalla. They moved to Longmont, Colo., where he worked as a heavy construction operator. They retired to the Walhalla area. Marlene Johnson died Aug. 15, 1999.
He is survived by a sister, Zelda (Les) Stevenson, Great Falls, Mont.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Howard and Vernon; and a sister, Mary Ann Watt.
Services: 2 p.m. today, Nelson Funeral Home, Walhalla.
Burial: Walhalla Hillside Cemetery.
Military rites: Bartlette-Resler Post No. 62, Walhalla American Legion.
Terry Tetrault
CANDO, N.D. -- Terry E. Tetrault, 30, Cando, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at his sister's home in Cando.
Terry Eugene Tetrault was born Nov. 23, 1969, the son of Eugene and Marlene (LaFountain) Tetrault, in Belcourt, N.D. He graduated from high school in Cando, in 1988. He worked at the BTR Grain Elevator in Churchs Ferry, N.D., and at Gordy's Bar in Cando.
He is survived by his mother, Belcourt; a son, Jordan Poirier, Winnipeg; sisters, Carlene (Tom) Gerald and Jody (James) Thomas, both of Cando; and a stepbrother, Kevin Dahle, Cando.
He was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents, Joseph and Mary Tetrault and Joseph and Mary LaFountain.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cando.
Visitation: 4: 30 to 8: 30 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. vigil service, Keplin Funeral Home, Rolette, and 9 a.m. Wednesday until time of services in the church.
Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Rolette.
