Cora Evenson
Cora J. Evenson, 86, Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Cora Josephine Brenna was born Jan. 12, 1914, the daughter of Henry and Anna Marie (Bye) Brenna, Hatton, N.D., where she attended school. She married
Francis Evenson on Dec. 28, 1933, in Hatton. They lived and farmed in the Hatton-Northwood area. They moved to Grand Forks in 1958, where they owned and operated the Airport Cafe and the Forx Hotel until their retirement. Francis Evenson died April 27, 1976.
She is survived by daughters, Fern (Erling) Nedberg, Nisswa, Minn., Rose (Dennis) Black, Fort Myers, Fla., and Rebecca (Paul) Rubin, Grand Forks; a son, Robert (Lynda) Ely, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; and a sister, Alpha Holter.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, University Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services, all in the church.
Burial: Carl Ben Eielson Cemetery, Hatton (Gregory J. Norman, S. Washington).
Sister Loretta Blasey
CROOKSTON -- Sister Loretta Blasey, 85, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, in Mount St. Benedict Monastery, Crookston.
Loretta Blasey was born Oct. 21, 1914, the daughter of Charles and Sara (Carmen) Blasey, in Ada, Minn., where she attended school. She graduated from Mount St. Benedict Academy in Crookston in 1932 and joined the monastic community at Mount St. Benedict. She made her vowed commitment in 1936. She received a BS degree in elementary education from College of St. Teresa, Winona. She taught in elementary parochial schools in Bemidji, Detroit Lakes, Thief River Falls, Barnesville, Mahnomen, Rosen and Mahtomedi, Minn. She earned a degree in library science from UND. She was a librarian at Mount St. Benedict High School. She also worked in the monastic library.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, Mount St. Benedict Chapel.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Mount St. Benedict
Burial: Mount St. Benedict Cemetery.
Peter Isakson
DEVILS LAKE -- Peter T. Isakson, 41, Devils Lake, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Peter T. Isakson was born March 18, 1959, the son of Earl and M. Susan (Billie) Isakson, in Williston, N.D. He moved with his family to Devils Lake, where he graduated from high school in 1977. He attended North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, and Benson Optical School, Minneapolis. He joined his father in his Devils Lake office as a dispensing optician. He married
Debra Olson on July 22, 1981, in Devils Lake.
He is survived by his children, Christopher and Lea, both of Jamestown; his father and stepmother, Lois, Devils Lake; a brother, Eric (Lynn), Minneapolis; stepbrothers, Clark Linde, Devils Lake, and Todd Linde, Victorville, Calif.; and stepsisters, Laurel Nybo, Bismarck, and Lisa Linde, Victorville.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and before services in the church.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.
Arly Volker
CROOKSTON -- Arly Volker, 70, Crookston, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in Riverview Hospital, Crookston.
Arly Volker was born Nov. 24, 1929, the son of Emil and Clara (Hoffman) Volker, in Fisher, Minn., where he graduated from high school in 1948. He worked for Zitzer Floral from 1949 to 1951. He married
Doris Brakob on Feb. 10, 1951, in Crookston. They lived in Crookston, where he worked at the Louis Jay Service Station from 1951 to 1957. He worked at the Bethesda Hospital, Crookston from 1957 to 1968. In 1968 he went into partnership with Merriam Hanson at the Central Pro Station. He worked there until 1981, when he began working at the University of Minnesota-Crookston. He retired in 1994.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Rodney (Liz), Detroit Lakes, Minn., Arlin and Jon (Kim), both of Crookston, Myron (Nikki), Owatonna, Minn., and Mark (Torrey), Fisher; daughters, Rhonda (Chris) Blokzyl, Crookston, and Linda Vaudrin, Brandon, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; and sisters, Arlene Knutson, Crookston, and Deloris (Vernon) Ostgaard, Climax, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosemary; brothers, Herman, Harold and Raymond; and sisters, Emily Nelson and Leona Herzberg.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Crookston.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
Robert Roberts
LAKOTA, N.D. -- Robert E. Roberts, 92, Devils Lake, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, in Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake, where he had lived since 1998.
Robert E. Roberts was born Jan. 3, 1908, the son of R.J. and Bertha (Halvorson) Roberts, in Lakota, N.D., where he graduated from high school in 1926. He was a graduate of North Dakota State University's School of Pharmacy. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He married
Yvonne Templeton on Jan. 16, 1942, in Mandan, N.D. They moved to Lakota, where they owned and operated Roberts' Rexall Drug Store. In 1959 they moved to Devils Lake, where they established the Lake Region Clinic Pharmacy. Yvonne Roberts died July 29, 1998.
He is survived by a son, Rob, Devils Lake; one granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lorraine Ettl, Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry; and a brother, Tracy.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Episcopal Church of the Advent, Devils Lake.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Lakota Cemetery
(Aaker, Lakota).
Mae Tollefson
CARRINGTON, N.D. -- Mae B. Tollefson, 76, Carrington, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, in Carrington Health Center.
Mae Bernice Thompson was born April 7, 1924, the daughter of Carl and Agusta (Hallblade) Thompson, in Sheyenne, N.D. She graduated from high school in New Rockford, N.D., in 1942. She worked as a telephone operator in the shipyards in Portland, Ore. She returned to New Rockford, where she taught in rural schools. She married
Edwin Tollefson on Feb. 10, 1947, in Jamestown. They lived in Carrington where she was a child care provider. In 1974 they moved to Rosehill Township, Foster County, N.D.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Charles (Connie), Surrey, N.D.; daughters, MeriDee (Merle) Johnson, Williston, Valerie (Bruce) Bibow, Minot, and Lisa (Richard) Larson, Austin, Minn.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Helene Cole, Las Vegas.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Norman; and sisters, Mary Ann Johnson and Betty Hendrickson.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington.
Visitation: 10 a.m. to 7: 30 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Burial: Carrington Cemetery.
