Mildred Sullivan
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Mildred Sullivan, 90, Phoenix, formerly of Thief River Falls, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, in Phoenix Baptist Hospital.
Mildred I. Fladeland was born Nov. 16, 1909, the daughter of John and Ingebor (Roinstad) Fladeland, in Reynolds, N.D. She married
Paul Sullivan on Sept. 2, 1934, in Watertown, Mass. They moved to Thief River Falls in 1957. She was a homemaker. Paul Sullivan died Oct. 15, 1982. In 1989, she moved to Arizona, where she lived with her nephew, John (Connie) Fladeland.
She is survived by nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Sina Waterhouse, Joan Fink, Betty Tarteff and Olena Fladeland; and brothers, Andrew and Ole.
Services: 1 p.m. today, St. John Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Hyllestad Cemetery, Traill County, N.D.(Green, Thief River Falls).
Jeannie Thompson
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Jeannie Thompson, 42, Thief River Falls, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at home.
Jeannie Louise Peterson was born June 8, 1958, the daughter of Richard and Betty (Owen) Peterson, in Thief River Falls, where she attended school. She worked at several places including ELCerito's, St. Hilaire, Minn., Johnny's Cafe and the Best Western. She married
Scott Gustafson, Gary Mosbeck and Randy Swenson. She married
Jim Thompson on June 6, 1998, in Goodridge, Minn. They lived in Sanders Township, Pennington County, Minn.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Abby Lee Mosbeck, Thief River Falls; a grandson; her parents, Betty Laufman, Warroad, Minn., and Richard Peterson, Erskine, Minn.; sisters, Le Ann (Jim) Carlson, Richland, Wash., and Jan Engelstad, Thief River Falls; brothers, Jimmy, in Colorado, Todd, Thief River Falls, and Michael (Connie) Laufman, Warroad; and her grandmother, Lydia Owen, Thief River Falls.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Morris Owen; maternal grandparents; and a brother, Steve.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, Green Funeral Home Chapel, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in the funeral home.
Irvin Rolland
LARIMORE, N.D. -- Irvin L. Rolland, 73, Larimore, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, in Larimore Good Samaritan Center.
Irvin L. Rolland was born Oct. 22, 1926, the son of Ingvald and Minnie (Olson) Rolland, in Grand Forks. He grew up and attended school in Larimore. He joined the U.S. Army in 1950 during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged in 1952. He returned to Larimore, where he worked for the railroad. In the early 1960s he moved to Seattle, where he worked for Boeing. In 1966 he returned to Larimore. He worked at a potato warehouse in Grand Forks until retiring in 1988.
He is survived by sisters, Mildred Porter, Pasco, Wash., and Delores (Vernon) Telander, Grandview, Wash.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth and Ralph; and a sister, Margaret.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore.
Visitation: Two hours before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore.
Military Rites Ted Valerius Post No. 97 of the Larimore American Legion.
Margaret Braaten
MAYVILLE, N.D. -- Margaret Braaten, 82, Mayville, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, in Luther Memorial Home, Mayville.
Margaret Louise Moen was born June 12, 1918, the daughter of Gilbert and Ida Moen. She grew up in Portland, N.D. She attended Mayville Normal School, earning her teaching certificate. She married
Clarence Braaten on June 12, 1941, in Hatton, N.D. They farmed until their retirement. She later worked with her daughter in a gift and antique shop in Mayville. Clarence Braaten died in May 2000.
She is survived by sons, Dennis (Starr) and Milo (Sandy), both of Portland, and Lavon (Jennifer), Finley; daughters, JeNell (Stanwiebe) Jacobson, Minneapolis, Debbie (Todd) Walker, Fresno, Calif., Ruby (Steve) Mehl, Boyden, Iowa., and Nancy (Scott) Holt, Scott City, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Lawrence (June), Hot Springs, S.D.; and a sister, Anna Hovland, Mayville.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter; brothers, Ingvald and Glenn; and sisters, Ellen Kaldor, Martha Paulson and Josie Moen.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Little Forks Lutheran Church, Hatton.
Visitation: 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Baker Funeral Home, Mayville.
Burial: Church cemetery.
Barbara Shively
Barbara Bushee Shively, 65, formerly of East Grand Forks, was born in Frazee, Minn., and died Aug. 18, 2000, at home in Kansas City, Kan.
Graveside services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Lucille Stroot
CROOKSTON -- Lucille Stroot, 85, Crookston, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, in Riverview Hospital, Crookston.
Lucille Ann Ruther was born May 22, 1915, the daughter of John and Ann (Fieman) Ruther, in Moorhead. She graduated from high school in Crookston. She worked for Carl Ash, Polk County Extension Agent, Crookston. She married
Bernard Stroot on Oct. 5, 1940, in Fisher, Minn. They farmed in near Euclid, Minn., until retiring in 1979. They returned to Crookston.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, JoAnn (Robert) Davis, Grand Forks, and Linda (Donald) Dargus, Crookston; sons, Dennis, Plymouth, and Steven, Crookston; eight grandchildren; a sister, LuVerne (James) Wade, Las Vegas; and brothers, Vernon, Athens, Ala., and John, Denver.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Stroot.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Crookston.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services all in the church.
Burial: Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston (Stenshoel-Houske, Crookston).
Alma Kurtti
ROCK LAKE, N.D. -- Alma Kurtti, 90, Rock Lake, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, in Presentation Medical Center, Rolla.
Alma Esther Peterson was born May 4, 1910, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Koski) Peterson, in Perth, N.D., where she attended school. She married
Arvid Kurtti on Oct. 12, 1935, in Tantallon, Sask. They farmed the family farm in Mount View Township, Rolette County, N.D., until 1942, when they moved to a farm in Armourdale Township. Arvid Kurtti died Sept. 6, 1992.
She is survived by sons, William "Bill", Rock Lake, and Dan, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Tom.
Services: 3: 30 p.m. Saturday, All Nations Lutheran Church, Rock Lake.
Visitation: Noon to 9 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. family service and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Niewoehner Funeral Home, Rolla, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Mount View Cemetery, Rolla.
