H. Lillian Bakke
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- H. Lillian Bakke, 92, Park River, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, in St. Ansgar's Health Center, Park River.
H. Lillian Johnson was born Dec. 3, 1908, the daughter of Bernard and Sarah (Lee) Johnson in Golden Township, Walsh County, N.D. She attended school near Park River. She graduated from high school in 1926 and from Concordia College in 1930. She married
Sigvald Bakke on Sept. 16, 1931, in Park River. They lived near Edinburg, N.D., until moving to Adams, N.D., in 1935, where they farmed. They retired in 1977. Sigvald Bakke died May 12, 1981. She married
Joe Bakke on May 1, 1985. They lived in Park River. Joe Bakke died in May 1995.
She is survived by a son, Duane (Marie), Park River; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a grandson; sisters, Brenda and Blanche; and brothers, Oscar, Otto, Henry, Laurence, Selmer and Henry.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Park River.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Tollefson Funeral Home, Park River and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Sarepta Lutheran Cemetery, Adams.
Peggy Baynes
Peggy Baynes, 48, Grand Forks, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at home.
Peggy Ann Ryan was born July 23, 1952, the daughter of Palmer and Mary (Henry) Ryan, in Grand Forks, where she graduated from high school. She married
Michael Baynes on Feb. 25, 1974, in Sisseton, S.D. She worked for RDO Foods, Grand Forks.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Ann (David) Smith, Grand Forks Air Force Base, and Charlene (John) Atkins and Margaret Baynes, both of Grand Forks; four grandchildren; and sisters, Carol Janke, Grand Forks, and Wanda (Larry) Armstrong, Conn Rapids, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Chester.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Naomi Powers
BEMIDJI -- Naomi Powers, 87, Bemidji, formerly of East Grand Forks, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in Havenwood Care Center, Bemidji.
Naomi Ruth Money was born May 24, 1913, the daughter of William and Lena (Graham) Money, in Cripple Creek, Va. She lived in Cripple Creek, Filbert, W.Va., and Elbert, W.Va. She married
Charles Powers on May 4, 1934, in Roderfield, W.Va. They lived in West Virginia until they moved to Togo, Minn., in 1947, and to Bemidji in 1957. In 1964, they moved to East Grand Forks and returned to Bemidji in 1993.
She is survived by daughters, Ruth (Richard) Norvold, Bemidji, Ruby (Alwin) Wakeman, Grand Forks, Rena Powers, Minneapolis, and Reba Makey, East Grand Forks; sons, William, Laureville, Ohio, Paul (Margaret), Buckley, Wash., and Aaron (Mary Ann), Bemidji; 55 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a stepson, Frank Powers, in Oregon; a sister, Sadie Edmondson, Stockport, Ohio; and brothers, Daniel (Ruth), Columbus, Ohio, and Andrew and David, both of Stockport.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sons, Melvin, Luther, Jo and George; two grandchildren; brothers, Elbert, Robert and Junior; and a sister, Violet.
Services: Were held in Bemidji.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks.
Burial: 11 a.m. Saturday, Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, under the direction of Stennes Funeral Home (Olson-Schwartz, Bemidji).
Ronald Coulter
Ronald "Red" Coulter, 77, Fargo, formerly of East Grand Forks, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in Manor Care Nursing Center, Fargo.
Ronald Coulter was born Aug. 30, 1923, the son of Lloyd and Elsie (Coulter) Coulter, in Mallory, Minn. He graduated from high school in Grand Forks. He served in the U.S. Army. He married
Cecelia Wosick on Aug. 28, 1948, in Grand Forks. He worked for Railway Express and for Vern Hagen Trucking Co. He also worked part time for Grand Forks Public Schools and the Grand Forks Herald. Cecelia Coulter died in 1992.
He is survived by daughters, Debbie (James) Borchert, Fargo, and Cathy (Kevin) Boatman, Grand Forks; sons, Jim, Grand Forks, Terry, Neenah, Wis., and Dan, Mesa, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ron Jr.; a grandson; and brothers, Lyle, Leonard and Russell.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: Two hours before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Nisbet Cemetery, rural East Grand Forks.
Military Rites: East Grand Forks VFW Post No. 3817.
John Brunskill
John "Bud" Brunskill, 80, Fargo, formerly of Grand Forks, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at home.
John Evans Brunskill was born Aug. 12, 1920, in Grand Forks. He lived in Michigan, Cando and Bottineau, N.D. In 1934, he moved with his family to Fargo, where he graduated from high school in 1939. He attended North Dakota State University. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He returned to Fargo and married
Sylvia Ella Kempf on Oct. 30, 1946. He worked for Veterans Hospital, Fargo, as a mail clerk and later as a payroll clerk. He retired in 1975. He worked part time as a parking lot attendant for the First National Bank until 1986.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Steve, Fargo, and Doug (Pat) Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughters, Sue (Jerry) Cossette, St. Michael, Minn., and Conny Brunskill, Sauk Rapids, Minn.; five grandchildren; and a sister, Jean (Vernon) Strong, Victoria, Minn.
Services: 2 p.m. today, Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church (Boulger, Fargo).
Llewellyn Silesky
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Llewellyn "Lou" Silesky, 72, formerly of Thief River Falls, died Nov. 11, 2000, in Crystal, Minn.
Llewellyn Anderson was born Jan. 11, 1928, the daughter of Palmer and Nina Anderson. She graduated from high school in Thief River Falls, in 1946. She graduated from Stephens College in 1948 and received her teaching degree from St. Cloud (Minn.) State. She taught school in Pine City, Minn. She married
Walt Silesky in 1956.
She is survived by her children, Tim, Nancy Silesky and Mary (Rick) Bordian.
She was preceded in death by a son, Tim; and a brother, Gary.
Services: Were held in Golden Valley, Minn.
Burial: Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Jerald Anderson
DEVILS LAKE -- Jerald W. Anderson, 58, LaMirada, Calif., formerly of Devils Lake, died of cancer Friday, Nov. 17, 2000.
Jerald Wayne Anderson was born Dec. 17, 1941, the son of Jesse and Ruby (Rasmuson) Anderson, in Devils Lake, where he attended school. In 1957, they moved to Fargo, where he graduated from high school in 1959. He worked several jobs in Fargo before moving to California, where he was a semi driver. He married
Leigh Lien on March 26, 1966.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Jerald Jr.; sisters, Ardis Embury, Grand Forks, and Judy (Charles) Odegaard, Plymouth, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a son, Terry; his parents; and a brother, Ronald.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Greenleaf Baptist Church, Whittier, Calif.
Burial: Salt and Sea in California.
