William Moore
WALHALLA, N.D. -- William Moore, 84, Walhalla, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in a Grand Forks nursing home.
William Jackson Barber Moore was born Aug. 26, 1916, the son of John and Ruby (Barber) Moore, in Glasston, N.D. He moved with his family to a farm near Loma, N.D., and later to Alsen, N.D. He attended school, farmed with his family and worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s. He married
Donna Dussome on March 25, 1939, in Grand Forks. They lived near Alsen, where they farmed and he worked on road construction. He was a mechanic for the John Deere Dealership, Langdon. They moved to Walhalla in 1957. He worked as a mechanic for Soeby Motors, the J.I. Case Dealership and operated an over the road trucking business. He later worked for Metelmann Farm Service and had a small engine repair business. He retired in 1998. He entered the Pembilier Nursing Center in Walhalla in June.
He is survived by his wife; sons, William (Barbara), Spokane, Wash., Albert "Bud", in Washington, Ted (Pam), Madison, Ill., Keith (Tammy), Beulah, N.D., and Donald (Lisa), Northwood, N.D.; daughters, Barbara Dumas, Minot, Wendy (Jeff) Osborn, Spokane, and Candace Vondal, Grand Forks; daughters-in-law, Shirley Amoth, Walhalla, and Rhonda Yeado, Spokane; 32 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Gustina Solberg, Devils Lake, and Maude (Ivan) Gudjonson, Walhalla.
He was preceded in death by a son, John; three grandsons; a great-grandson; and brothers, Stewart and Robert.
Services: 2 p.m. today, Walhalla Lutheran Church, Walhalla.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Hillside Cemetery, Walhalla (Nelson, Maddock, N.D.).
Rose Vettleson
ROLLA, N.D. -- Rose M. Vettleson, 38, Rolla, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at home.
Rose M. Vettleson was born Oct. 6, 1962, the daughter of Wilton and Lucille (Belgarde) Vettleson, in Rolla. She grew up in St. John, N.D. She attended school in St. John, Minot, and the Turtle Mountain Communities. She moved to Rolla in the spring of 2000. She worked several jobs while living in Minot.
She is survived by sons, Justin, Ryan and Anthony Vettleson, all of Belcourt, N.D.; a daughter, Alisha Poitra, Belcourt; brothers, Wilton Vettleson, Deadwood, S.D., John Vettleson, Lower Brule, S.D., Randy Vettleson, Springfield, S.D., and John Bercier, Minot; and sisters, Carol Kaufman, Warroad, Minn., Sharon Beatrez, Kearneysville, W.Va., Sally Vettleson, Bonnie Bercier and Jennifer Bercier, all of Minot, and Missy Bercier, Newtown, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her father; and her mother, Lucille Bercier.
Services: 10 a.m. today, St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Belcourt.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church (Keplin, Rolette, N.D.).
Vernon Halverson
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Vernon C. Halverson, 81, Park River, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in Park River.
Vernon C. Halverson was born May 15, 1919, the son of Charles and Mabel (Vettleson) Halverson, in Lankin, N.D., where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He returned to Park River. He married
Clarice "Dolly" Gestson on March 16, 1949, in Park River. He worked for the ASCS office in Park River for 34 years, retiring in 1983 as the executive director.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Russell (Gail), East Grand Forks, Duane (Monica) and Dean, both of Seattle, and Paul (Jean), Lakewood, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard.
Services: 2: 30 p.m. Friday, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Park River.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Tollefson Funeral Home, Park River, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River.
Military rites: Paul Farup American Legion Post No. 147 of Park River.
Paul McInnes
HILLSBORO, N.D. -- Paul H. McInnes, 53, Queen Creek, Ariz., formerly of Hillsboro, died Nov. 3, 2000, at home.
Paul Herbert McInnes was born Nov. 1, 1947, the son of Earl and Eleanor (Borke) McInnes, in Fargo. He grew up in Hillsboro, where he graduated from high school. He graduated from North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton. He married
Barbara Sorum. He worked at the Ford Garage and later farmed in Hillsboro. They moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 1985. He worked as a mechanic at Blade Runners and as a truck driver at Stewart's Trucking, both in Arizona. He married
Barbara Ault.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Dale (Mai), West Fargo, N.D., and Peter (Cyndy) and Daniel, both of Mesa; a grandson; his mother, Hillsboro; brothers, Thomas (Marla) and Richard, both of Hillsboro; and sisters, Elaine Erickson, Bloomington, Minn., Kathleen Trevino, Brooklyn Park, Minn., Ann (Gregg) Allen, Oceanside, Calif., Margaret (Allen) Krogstad, Reynolds, N.D., and Laurie (Donald) White, Fargo.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Hillsboro.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Hillsboro (Wildeman, Hillsboro).
William Kilmartin
William T. "Judge" Kilmartin, 84, St. Anne's Guest Home, Grand Forks, formerly of Gilby, N.D., died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
William Thomas Kilmartin was born April 16, 1916, the son of William and Lauretta (Smith) Kilmartin, in Gilby, where he attended school. He farmed and later worked on the railroad. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by a brother, James, Gilby; and sisters, Alice "Pat" (Bill) Cleary, Grand Junction, Colo., and Mary "Midge" (John) Jackson, Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lauretta; and a brother, Duane.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Gilby Presbyterian Church.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
James Londergan Lamb
James Londergan Lamb, a prominent Grand Forks attorney who had state and national connections, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis. He was 75.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5: 30 to 7: 30 p.m., with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks. Burial will be in Michigan, N.D.
His law career Lamb was a member of the Grand Forks law firm of Degnan, Hager, McElroy and Lamb beginning in 1950. He continued with that firm, now known as Camrud, Maddock, Olson and Larson Ltd., until his death. He became actively involved within the firm with construction law and litigation and was known as the state's premier attorney in the area of surety and bonding law. He served on the Fidelity and Surety Committee of the American Bar Association and the Forum Committee on Construction. He remained a contributing author of national publications relating to the bonding and surety field. He worked for many years on the North Dakota Bar Association's Procedures Committee. He was a trial attorney for 50 years and was licensed in all state and federal courts.
Political ties He was actively involved with party politics, local and national. Lamb was involved in dealing with President Truman when Truman came through the state by rail in 1952. Lamb was district chairman of the Democrats at the time of John F. Kennedy's visit in 1963 and made arrangements for the visit with the Secret Service.
He served as a leader in the economic development of Grand Forks beginning in the late 1960s.
He was born Nov. 1, 1924, in Grand Forks, the son of James Skehan and Johanna Londergan Lamb.
He grew up in Michigan, N.D., and moved with his family to Bismarck, where he graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1942.
He attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., and graduated with undergraduate degrees in political science and naval science in 1945. After serving with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific in World War II, he returned to Notre Dame and graduated magna cum laude from the Notre Dame School of Law.
He married
Mary Jean Bavendick Dec. 31, 1949, in Bismarck.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Larry (Debra), David and Brian, all of Minneapolis, Tim (Elizabeth) of Grand Forks, Steven (Toni) of Fargo; a daughter, Jeanne (Mark) Lamb of Duluth; and nine grandchildren.
