Oluf Nering
MICHIGAN, N.D. -- Oluf Nering, 85, Michigan, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Oluf Nering was born June 24, 1915, the son of Nels and Ingeborg (Grimstad) Nering, in Michigan, where he attended school. He worked for several area farmers. He married
Irene Gilbertson on Nov. 1, 1941, in Petersburg, N.D. He was in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, during World War II. He earned the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He returned to Michigan, where he farmed until 1989.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Lurlene (Fred) Grannan, Everett, Wash., Beverly (Wayne) Mays, West Chester, Ohio, Jacqueline (Barry) Gray, Petersburg, N.D., and Gayle (Lyle) Gorseth, Blaisdell, N.D.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, Michigan Lutheran Church.
Visitation: After 1 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Michigan Cemetery.
Military rites: W. L. Cowper American Legion Post No. 238 of Michigan.
Ann Deehr
TOLNA, N.D. -- Ann Deehr, 96, Tolna, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in Nelson County Health System-Hospital, McVille, N.D.
Ann Hanestad was born July 15, 1904, the daughter of Augusta and Mari (Hensrud) Hanestad, in Badger, Minn., where she attended school. She married
Lawerence Deehr on March 11, 1924, in Fargo. They lived and farmed near Tolna. In the early 1960s they moved into Tolna. Lawerence Deehr died May 18, 1973. She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers; and three sisters.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Tolna.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Tolna Cemetery
(Stanley-Iverson, McVille).
Amalia Obregon
Amalia Obregon, 85, 1714 10th Ave. N., died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Amalia Rea was born Sept. 12, 1915, the daughter of Pedro and Maria (Segovia) Rea, in Happy, Texas. She moved with her family to Grand Forks. She attended school in Oslo, Minn., and Grand Forks. She married
John Obregon Sr. on Oct. 31, 1930, in St. Thomas, N.D. He died Jan. 10, 1990.
She is survived by daughters, Aurora Estevez, St. Paul, Eloisa (Jesse) Maldonado, Detroit, Gloria (Robert) Justice, Albertville, Ala., Mary (Roy) Smith, Ganston, Ala., and Isabelle (Harold) Bonk, Saskatoon, Sask.; sons, Jesse, Danial (Scharlene), Edward (Elizabeth), all of Grand Forks, John Jr. (Viola), St. Paul, Theodore (Patricia), East Grand Forks, Raymond (Kathern), Bismarck, Ruben (Lola), Minot, and Leonel (Cathy), Fargo; 70 grandchildren; 111 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Connie (Buck) Avila, Garden City, Kan.; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Obregon, Grand Forks.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard "Richie"; and brothers, Frank, Thomas, and John.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service and a 4: 30 p.m. rosary, Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, S. Washington.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks. Memorials are suggested to St. Michael's Bridge Builders, 520 N. sixth St., Grand Forks ND 58203.
Albert Magnuson
CARRINGTON, N.D. -- Albert J. Magnuson, 93, Carrington, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, in Golden Acres Manor, Carrington.
Albert Joseph Magnuson was born Sept. 2, 1907, the son of John and Agustia (Erickson) Magnuson, in Brooten, Minn. He moved to Valley City, N.D., and lived with his sister E. Ethel "Blonde." He moved to Sykeston, N.D., and worked for a short time and returned to Valley City. In 1925, he began working for Helmer "Fred" and Martha Nelson, near Carrington. He moved to Milwaukee, Wis., and worked in a factory. He returned to Carrington and worked for Alvin and Mabel Nelson. He married
Louise Grover on Feb. 21, 1932. They lived in Hawknest Township, Foster County, N.D. They raised a nephew, Richard Werner. Louise Magnuson died July 29, 2000.
He is survived by sons, Rodney (Leona), Carrington, and Dean (Peggy), Grand Forks; a daughter, Karen (Joe) Morris, Fessenden, N.D.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Church of the Nazarene, Carrington.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 8: 30 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Burial: Carrington Cemetery.
Agnes Scheflo
BOTTINEAU, N.D. -- Agnes L. Scheflo, 100, Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Bottineau, died Nov. 3, 2000, at her daughter's home in Colorado Springs.
Agnes Louise Vinje was born June 16, 1900, the daughter of Thomas and Oline (Aune) Vinje, in Landa, N.D., where she graduated from high school. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead. She worked in the Bottineau County Register of Deeds office. She married
Rudolph Scheflo April 2, 1929, in Landa. They lived on the Scheflo family farm in Starbuck Township, Bottineau County. In 1973, they moved into Bottineau. Rudolph Scheflo died Nov. 8, 1980. In 1990, she moved to Colorado Springs, where she lived with her daughter, Adeline.
She is survived by a daughter, Adeline Heidlebaugh, Colorado Springs; sons, Dr. Myron, Grafton, N.D., and Orlando Jerome (Penny), Savannah, Ga.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Alma Lillegard and Ovila Engstrom, both of Minot.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis; and a sister, Dagma Vinje.
Services: Were held in Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau.
Burial: Oak Creek Cemetery, Bottineau.
F. Eugene White
HAMILTON, N.D. -- F. Eugene White, 65, Eugene, Ore., formerly of Hamilton, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at home.
Franklin Eugene White was born Sept. 4, 1935, the son of Franklin and Marian (Norstrum) White, in Sioux City, Iowa. He grew up and graduated from high school in Hamilton. He served in the National Guard. He married
Catherine Brown on Feb. 19, 1955, in Cavalier, N.D. She died April 10, 1993. He worked with his father at Hamilton Motor and Implement until they moved to Oregon. He was self employed and also was a carrier for The Register Guard in Eugene.
He is survived by daughters, Donna (Bruce) Burggraf, Aloha, Ore, Mary (George) Bartow and Catherine (Richard) McIntyre, both of Eugene; sons, Mark and Patrick, both of Eugene; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell, Hamilton; and sisters, Donna (Lawrence) Nordstrom, Hamilton, Linda (Jerry) Schluchter, Broomfield, Colo., and Kathy (Duane) Dunn, Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Lawrence.
Services: Were held in Eugene.
Clifford Larson
DEVILS LAKE -- Clifford "Rip" Larson, 78, Devils Lake, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Clifford L. Larson was born March 16, 1922, the son of Alfred and Clara (Reierson) Larson, in Flora, N.D. He graduated from school in Maddock in 1940. He worked for the Conservation Corps Camp, Kramer, N.D. He attended the North Dakota Agricultural College, Fargo. He joined the U.S. Army on Dec. 5, 1942 and was discharged on Feb. 17, 1946. He returned to college and graduated with a degree in education in 1947. He taught in Beulah, N.D. He married
Esther Pearson on Aug. 26, 1948, in Devils Lake. They lived in Minnewaukan, N.D., where he was the principal and coach for four years. They moved to Everett, Wash., and returned to Egeland, N.D., where he was the principal and coach. In 1958, they moved to Devils Lake. He was the associate administrator for Mercy Hospital for 25 years retiring in 1984.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Bradley, Fargo; brothers, Irvin, Northridge, Calif., Alden (Jeanne), Billings, Mont., and Kenneth (Margaret), Federal Way, Wash.; and sisters, Adeline (Louis) Urness, Grand Forks and Irene (Robert) Radloffe, Pelican Hills Park, Minn.
He was preceded in death by half sisters, Rosalie and Edna; and a half brother, Arthur.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, and 9 to 11: 30 a.m. Tuesday, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.
Military rites: Neathery-Simensen Post No. 756 of the Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.
