Jay Cooper
PORTLAND, N.D. -- Jay W. Cooper, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Jay W. Cooper was born Jan. 7, 1920, the son of Francis and Marie (Peterson) Cooper, in Climax, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Reynolds, N.D. He joined the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942, served during World War II and was discharged in June 1944. In 1949, he started Cooper Plumbing and Trenching with his brother, Donald. He worked road construction in Alaska in the mid 1960s. He married
Alice Hefta on June 30, 1961, in Portland, where they lived. She died in July 1997.
He is survived by a son, Kevin (Doris), Jamestown; a granddaughter; a brother, Donald (Deloris), Reynolds; sisters, Marion Latendresse, Mayville, N.D., and Ruby Christianson, Portland; and a half brother, Charles Cooper, B.C.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Vance and Clifton; and a sister, Vernola Evenson.
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Bruflat Lutheran Church, Portland.
Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Baker Funeral Home, Mayville.
Burial: Bruflat Cemetery.
Alice Rude
LANGDON, N.D. -- Alice Rude, 93, Langdon, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, in Maple Manor Care Center, Langdon, where she had lived since 1994.
Alice Helen Bye was born Sept. 16, 1907, the daughter of John and Ida (Peterson) Bye, in Vang, N.D. In 1923, she moved to Naicam, Sask. She returned to Mona, N.D. She married
Arthur Rude on Dec. 19, 1926, in Mona. They lived and farmed in Loam Township, Cavalier County, N.D. Arthur Rude died Jan 19, 1953. She moved to Langdon in 1974.
She is survived by children, Bernice Olson and Elroy (Marilyn), both of Langdon, Marliss (Robert) Bock, Becker, Minn., Irma (Robert) Dulmage, Leeds, N.D., and Darlyne (Bill) Keegan, Kailua, Hawaii; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Henry Olson; sisters, Gertie Bye, Irene Guttormson, and Julia Torgerson; and a brother, Arnold.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, United Lutheran Church, Langdon.
Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Brooks Funeral Home, Langdon.
Fred Kihne
CAVALIER, N.D. -- Fred "Ole" Kihne, 85, Cavalier, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier.
Fred Kihne was born June 10, 1915, the son of Fred and Florence (Webb) Kihne, in Cavalier Township, Pembina County, N.D. He attended school near Cavalier. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from July 11, 1942, to Nov. 10, 1945. He farmed near Cavalier until retiring in 1983. He then moved into Cavalier.
He is survived by a sister, Laura Hildebrant, Cavalier; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Kihne, Cavalier.
He was preceded in death by five brothers; and three sisters.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier.
Visitation: One hour before services.
Burial: Cavalier Cemetery.
Military rites: Lavern J. Thompson American Legion Post No. 11, Cavalier.
Carol Blom
Carol Blom, 78, Neenah, Wis., formerly of Grand Forks, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, in Appleton, Wis.
Carol Mavis Graalum was born May 31, 1922, the daughter of Arthur and Sena Graalum, in Hastings, N.D. She graduated from high school in Enderlin, N.D. She attended Fairview School of Nursing, Minneapolis. She worked as night nursing supervisor for Fairview Hospital. She married
Arnold Blom on May 27, 1945, in Enderlin. They served churches in Eau Claire, Wis., Wild Rose, N.D., Colton, S.D., Cloquet, Minn., and in Bemidji as his secretary for the ALC District in northern Minnesota and in Grand Forks at Valley Memorial Nursing Homes. She was a full partner in ministry. They moved to Neenah in October 1998.
She is survived by children, Ann (Jonathan) Sorum, Bratislava, Slovakia, David (Karen), Alexandria, Minn., Philip (Sue) and Beth (George) Files, both of Neenah, and Ruth, Hastings, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; great-grandson; and a brother, Ralph (Liz), Wahpeton, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and brothers, Russell and Milton.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Neenah.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church. Memorials are suggested to Blom Memorial for Missions and the Alzheimer's Association.
Daniel Gette
STARKWEATHER, N.D. -- Daniel J. Gette, 49, Westwood, Kan., died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at home.
Daniel J. Gette was born Sept. 19, 1951, the son of Mallor and Marle Gette, in Starkweather. He has lived in Kansas City for the last 12 years. He worked for McLane Company, Talwan and for Fleming Companies Inc., for 18 years.
He is survived by his wife, Athena (Glavas) Gette; daughters, Whitney Gette and Katie Gette, both of Wichita, Kan.; his parents; brothers, Bob (Mary), Wahpeton, N.D., Larry, Fargo, Rodney (Alice), Goodyear, Ariz., Tim (Laurel) and Jerry (Lisa), both of Sioux Falls, S.D., Allen, Fayetteville, Ariz., Tony (Jennifer), Santa Barbara, Calif., Randy (Sandy), Lee's Summit, Mo., and Mal (Gayle), Starkweather; sisters, Janel (Mike) Ryan, Farmington, N.M., Annette (Curtis), Hofstad, Starkweather, Claudia (Larry) Haaven, Hannah, N.D., Lauri (David) Bosserman, Leesburg, Va., and Bernie (Dave) Polovitz, Medina, Minn.; and former wife, Becky Taylor, Wichita.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Maple Hill Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kan.
Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday with a rosary recitation at the funeral home.

Howard Renfrow
LANGDON, N.D. -- Howard Renfrow, 84, Langdon, formerly of Calvin, N.D., died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in the Maple Manor Care Center, Langdon.
Howard Kounts Renfrow was born Jan. 8, 1916, the son of Harry and Leona (Kounts) Renfrow, in Wales, N.D. He grew up and graduated from high school in Calvin. He married
Florence Laabs on Nov. 19, 1938 in Fenton, Iowa. They lived and farmed in Grey Township, Cavalier County, N.D.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Kenneth (Dianne), Calvin; a daughter, Beverly Rae (Delond) Bolte, Cylinder, Iowa; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucile Pankratz, Munich, N.D.; brothers, Donald (Ruth), Devils Lake, Joseph (Clara), Cando, and Morris, Alameda, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Renfrow, Albuquerque, N.M.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois; and brothers, Kenneth, Harvey and Richard.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Brooks Funeral Home, Langdon.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Roy Jensen
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Roy Jensen, 84, Thief River Falls, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, in Hillcrest Nursing Home, Red Lake Falls, Minn.
Roy Sorenson Jensen was born April 6, 1916, the son of Ejnar and Mary (Sorenson) Jensen, in Waseca, Minn. He moved with his family to Highlanding Township, where he attended school. He worked in farming, logging, and trapping. In 1941, he joined the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1945. He married
Agnes Kompen on Dec. 20, 1944. They lived in Thief River Falls. He worked for Palmer Anderson Construction in North Dakota and for Clarence Williams in Minnesota. Later he worked for the city of Thief River Falls at the power plant and street department for 22 years. After retiring in 1978, he worked for area farmers.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Richard (Elaine), Thief River Falls, and Jon (Gretchen), Lino Lakes, Minn.; a daughter, Linda (John) Ruohoniemi, Calumet, Mich.; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; a great-grandson; two step great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ina Jensen, Thief River Falls.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lola Callison; and brothers, Leo and Max.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery.
Military rites: Thief River Falls VFW.
