Brinton Jones
Brinton W. Jones, 65, Grand Forks, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Brinton W. Jones was born Oct. 2, 1935, the son of Elbert and Margaret (Ervin) Jones, in Blackfork, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Air Force. He married
Sharon Gifford on Feb. 9, 1963, in Grand Forks. He worked for Northern States Power Co. until retiring in 1991. Sharon Jones died in 1990.
He is survived by a son, Joshua, Grand Forks; sisters, Rita (Mack) Howard and Lynn (Cork) Crabtree, both of Oak Hill, Ohio, Lorry (Hayden) Hammond, Patriot, Ohio, Deanna Storch and Colleen Bigony, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Bonnie (Sig) Puchacz, Austin, Texas; and a brother, Perk, Oak Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and a brother, Don.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Augustana Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Edna Poehls
TOLNA, N.D. -- Edna L. Poehls, 81, Tolna, formerly of Ayr, N.D., died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at home.
Edna L. Ostreim was born Oct. 9, 1919, the daughter of Ole and Ida (Ness) Ostreim, in Rolette, N.D. She grew up and attended school in Page, N.D. She married
Elmer Poehls on Oct. 7, 1943. They lived and farmed in the Alice and Page areas. They moved to Ada, Minn., in 1963. They moved to Ayr, where she worked for the Ayr Public School as a cook. Elmer Poehls died Dec. 16, 1990. She moved to Tolna in September 2000.
She is survived by a son, Eddie (Diane), Tolna; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernice Mitchell, West Fargo.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Leonard and Ernest.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Ayr.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home, McVille, N.D., and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Page Cemetery.
Sally Thompson
CANDO, N.D. -- Sara H. "Sally" Thompson, 88, Cando, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in Towner County Medical Center, Cando.
Sara H. Harnick was born Dec. 18, 1912, the daughter of Louis and Yetta (Fleck) Harnick, in Camden, N.J. She grew up and attended school in Philadelphia. She worked in Washington, D.C., for the Department of Agriculture. She married
Fountain Thompson on Dec. 23, 1953, in Washington, D.C. They lived in Washington, D.C., and farmed near Cando. They retired in 1971 and moved into Cando in 1987. Fountain Thompson died May 15, 1991.
She is survived by a brother, Martin, Warrington, Pa.; and a sister, Cecelia Comroe, Philadelphia.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Berger.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando.
Burial: I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Cando.
Kami Gage
DEVILS LAKE -- Kami K. Gage, 22, Mandan, N.D., formerly of Devils Lake, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Kami Kae Gage was born July 14, 1978, the daughter of Barry and Heather (McNaught) Gage, in Devils Lake, where she attended school. In 1997, she moved to Bismarck.
She is survived by a daughter, Paityn Gage; her father, Barry (Denice), Devils Lake; her mother, Bismarck; brothers, Chad and Joey, both of Devils Lake; and grandparents, Gene and Judy Gage, Devils Lake, and Wayne Trottier, St. Michael, N.D.
She was preceded in death by grandparents, Russell and Kae McNaught, and Adeline Trottier.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: Noon to 9 p.m. today, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.
Walter Snyder
ARVILLA, N.D. -- Walter D. "Dewey" Snyder, 76, Arvilla, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in Larimore (N.D.) Good Samaritan Center, where he had lived since April 6, 1999.
Walter Dewey Snyder was born June 3, 1924, the son of Walter and Iva (Juhlke) Snyder, in Larimore, where he graduated from high school in 1942. He lived and farmed with his father near Arvilla until 1962. He married
Edell Visness on Dec. 21, 1963, in East Grand Forks. He farmed with his brother in the Arvilla area. He retired in 1982. Edell Snyder died April 1996. He later moved to Grand Forks. He lived in Northwood, N.D., from Sept. 11, 1997 to April 5, 1999.
He is survived by sisters-in-law, Marianne Snyder, Arvilla, and Evie Snyder, Larimore.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Norwood and William; and a sister, Dorie.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Arvilla Presbyterian Church.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Arvilla Cemetery.
David Smith
DEVILS LAKE -- David E. Smith Jr., 21, Bismarck, formerly of Devils Lake, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, in an automobile accident in Mandan, N.D.
David Edward Smith Jr., was born March 10, 1979, the son of David and Julia (Alberts) Smith, in Devils Lake. He attended school in St. Michael and Fort Totten, N.D. He later moved to Bismarck.
He is survived by a son, Jayden, Columbus, Ohio; his mother, Bismarck; his father, Devils Lake; sisters, Michaeline Smith, Sisseton, S.D., Lisa Herald and Tanisha Smith, both of Devils Lake, Tammy Walters, Moorhead, Billie Jo Smith, Mandan; and brothers, Peter Smith, Devils Lake, and Brian Alberts, Bismarck.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Michael.
Visitation: After 5 p.m. today, Tekakwitha Center, St. Michael.

Stanley Gorder
Stanley A. Gorder, 91, Grand Forks, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, in Woodside Village of 4000 Valley Square.
Stanley Arnold Gorder was born Sept. 29, 1909, the son of Oscar and Nora (Hegland) Gorder, in Grand Forks, where he graduated from high school. He attended UND. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He returned to Grand Forks, where he worked for the City Water Department and later as a real estate salesman and stock broker. He married
Mabel Haugen on Dec. 19, 1964, in Las Vegas. She died Aug. 25, 1991.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
