Ruth Jordan
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Ruth Jordan, 95, Thief River Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, in Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, Minn., where she had lived since Oct. 30.
Ruth Swanson was born Oct. 20, 1905, the daughter of Aaron and Mary Swanson, in Ashland, Wis., where she graduated from high school. She worked for the city power company. She married
Robert Goodrich on July 8, 1929. In 1943, they moved to Warren, Minn., and bought the Gambles Store. In 1954, they built and operated the ElmCrest Motel in Warren. Robert Goodrich died Nov. 9, 1966. She married
Art Jordan on June 19, 1973. They lived in Madison, Wis. Art Jordan died Feb. 7, 1983. She returned to Warren, where she lived, until moving to Valley Home, Thief River Falls, and then to Oakland Park Nursing Home, Thief River Falls.
She is survived by children, Roberta (the Rev. Donald) Ranstrom, Davis, Calif., and Dr. Donald (Ruth), Thief River Falls; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson; and brothers and sisters, Carl, Myrtle Swanson, and Esther Thurman.
Services: Will be held at a later date.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls (Green, Thief River Falls).
Jack Safford
BEMIDJI -- Jack H. Safford, 86, Bemidji, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at home.
Jack H. Safford was born March 19, 1914, the son of Charles and Isabelle (Todd) Safford, in Sycamore, Ill. He graduated from high school in Scottsbluff, Neb., in 1931. He farmed with his father. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1934 to 1938. He re-enlisted shortly after Pearl Harbor and served until 1945. He married
Irene Goerke on Nov. 28, 1945, in Scottsbluff. He returned to the family farm. He attended the University of Nebraska, graduating in 1958. He worked as a soil scientist for the Bureau of Indian Affairs on the Pine Ridge, Rosebud, and Cheyenne River Indian Reservations in South Dakota. He retired in 1975. They lived on Lake Irvine in Bemidji.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Mary (Ed) Kuldanek, International Falls, Minn., and Joann Safford, Sundance, Wyo.; and a son, Timothy, Pocatello, Idaho; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen.
Memorial services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.
Ernest Dencker
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Ernest A. "Ernie" Dencker, 87, Park River, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in St. Ansgar's Health Center, Park River.
Ernest A. Dencker was born June 5, 1913, the son of Herman and Elise (Bornholt) Dencker, in Lancer, Sask. He moved with his family to Walsh County, N.D., where he attended school. He married
Irene Aker on Jan. 31, 1936, in Grafton, N.D. They farmed in Lampton Township, Walsh County, until 1968, when they rented out the farm and started working at the Developmental Center, Grafton. They retired in 1979. In 1990, they moved into Park River.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Doris (Harold) Einarson, Edinburg, N.D., Barbara (Carl) Nelson, Park River, and Judith McGoven, Grand Forks; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Irene Leirow, Otis, Ore., and Helen MacKay, Tombstone, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald; brothers, Fred and Henry; and a sister, Thea Holland.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Park River.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: German-Lutheran Cemetery, Park River (Tollefson, Park River).
Janette Helle
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Janette Helle, 99, Thief River Falls, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, in Hillcrest Nursing Home, Red Lake Falls, Minn., where she has been living for four years.
Janette Olive Jacobsen was born Aug. 17, 1901, the daughter of Hans and Oline (Christiansen) Jacobsen, in Lankin, N.D. She married
John Helle on Oct. 31, 1923, in Oklee, Minn. They lived in Oklee and Hazel, Minn., before moving to Thief River Falls in 1946. She worked for Mint Cafe and for Catholic Home, Grand Forks. John Helle died Oct. 19, 1975.
She is survived by children, Laura Cariveau, Lynnwood, Wash., Alice (Ernie) Thune, Daniel (Zoe), Norman, Lester (Lou), Gerald (Imogene) and Harvey, all of Thief River Falls; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and half sisters, Olga Christianson and Anna "Tootsie" Peterson, both of Grand Forks, and June Morris, of California.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter; sisters, Clara Peterson and Betsy Jacobsen; brothers, Tony and Johan "Melvin"; half brothers, George, Henry, Stanley, Oliver, and Frithjof; a son-in-law, Roger Cariveau; and a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Helle.
Services: 2 p.m. today, Green Funeral Home Chapel, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: Before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery.
Raymond Parisien
BELCOURT, N.D. -- Raymond K. "Petie" Parisien, 38, Belcourt, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, near Belcourt.
Raymond Kelly Parisien was born July 3, 1962, the son of Raymond "Primis" Parisien and Carolyn Bruce, in Belcourt, where he graduated from high school in 1981. He attended Turtle Mountain Community College. He worked at Turtle Mountain Manufacturing as a welder, he did laser work and was also a supervisor.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Sonia Parisien, Rolla, N.D.; brothers, Richard (Claire) and Linus (Lynelle), both of Rolla; and sisters, Anna (Brian) Champagne, Belcourt, Lorraine (Terry Gourneau) Parisien, Rolla, and Cheryl (Jerry) Stewart, St. John, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and grandmother, Madeline Parisien.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt.
Visitation: Begins at 6: 30 p.m. today, with an 8 p.m. rosary and vigil service, and one hour before services, all in the church.
Burial: St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery
in the spring (Keplin, Rolette, N.D.).
Lucille Kennedy
BEMIDJI -- Lucille M. Kennedy, 86, Bemidji, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in the Haven¨wood Care Center, Bemidji.
Lucille Madeline Sorensen was born Feb. 16, 1914, the daughter of Nels and Sena (Petersen) Sorensen, in Solway, Minn. She grew up and attended school in Jones Township, Beltrami County, Minn. She married
Lyle Kennedy on Aug. 10, 1937, in Bemidji. She cleaned homes in Bemidji and worked as a waitress in local restaurants.
She is survived by daughters, Connie Hanson, Bemidji, and Vicki (David) Crowser, Fergus Falls, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lester, Troy, Mont.
She was preceded in death by a son, Bob; a daughter, Carole Mooridian; brothers, Peter, Clifford, Clarence, Marvin and Thomas; and sisters, Ella Jerome, Florence Shea and Selma Fredenberg.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Evangelical Covenant Church, Bemidji.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Jones Township Cemetery.
Mary Barnett
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Mary Barnett, 60, New Rockford, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at home.
Mary Ellen McGuire was born Nov. 4, 1939, the daughter of Wilbur and Lois (Miller) McGuire, in Fargo. She attended school in Lonetree, Berthold, Des Lacs and Valley City, N.D. She married
Donald Barnett on June 23, 1956, in Valley City. They lived in several North Dakota towns including Valley City, Bottineau and New Rockford. In 1988 she attended college in Bottineau and in 1989 transferred to Valley City. In 1991 she received her bachelor's degree in business management and accounting. She worked in Sanborn, N.D., at the Harvest States Elevator as a bookkeeper and secretary. She later worked in Cooperstown, N.D., at the Griggs County Nursing Home as a cook and at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford as a cook.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Michael, Valley City, Bill, Red Lake Falls, Minn., and Jeremy, New Rockford; daughters, Jackie (Mike) Williams and Jane Higgins, both of New Rockford; Sally (Richard) Kofoid, Luverne, N.D., Dawn (Jary) Johnson, Landa, N.D., Sue (Donavon) Olson, West Fargo, and Jenny (Dale) Eull, Hope, N.D.; 25 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her parents, Valley City; brothers, Dennis (Carol), Pillsbury, N.D., and David, Renton, Wash.; and sisters, Karen (Delmar) Sailer, Stanton, N.D., and Diane (Dennis) Shape, Litchville, N.D.
She was preceded in death by daughters, Cheryl and Rochelle; and a brother, Willis.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, United Methodist Church, New Rockford.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.
