John Eschbach V
BEMIDJI -- John D. Eschbach V, 74, Bemidji, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at home.
John D. Eschbach V was born Oct. 19, 1925, the son of John and Mildred (Hansen) Eschbach, in Moorhead. He grew up and attended schools in Moorhead and Skeim, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 15, 1944 to Nov. 5, 1946, during World War II. He lived in California, and attended Los Angeles County Art Institute from 1947 to 1950. He returned to Skeim, where he worked with his father. He married
Forenstine Wilke in 1953. They lived in Rolla, N.D. He retired and moved to Bemidji.
He is survived by daughters, Maxine (Kennard) Moe, Bemidji, Morgana Eschbach and Tamarack Eschbach, both of Devils Lake, and Malinda Velline and Luana Olstad, both of Fargo; sons, John, Ronnie, Fargo, Franz, Devils Lake, and Irwin; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Southarm Cemetery, Beltrami County, Minn.
Jeanette Laducer
BELCOURT, N.D. -- Jeanette Y. Laducer, 60, Belcourt, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility, Belcourt.
Jeanette Yvonne Charette was born Sept. 6, 1940 the daughter of Simon and Nora (Belgarde) Charette, in Belcourt. She grew up and attended school in Belcourt and Stephan, S.D. She attended business college, in Fargo, Mary College, Bismarck, and Turtle Mountain Community College, Belcourt. She married
Sylvester Ladcuer. She worked as a teacher's assistant in the Turtle Mountain Middle School from 1988 to 1993, when she retired.
She is survived by daughters, Marilyn Gourneau and Diane Laducer, both of Belcourt; sons, Curtis (Mary) and Lee (Angela), both of Belcourt; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her mother, Belcourt; brothers, Leonard (Betty) LaVallie, Richard (Valerie) Charette and Edward Belgarde, all of Belcourt; and her companion, Lee Gourneau, Belcourt.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt.
Visitation: Begins at 6: 30 p.m. Wednesday, with an 8 p.m. Rosary and vigil service, and one hour before services all in the church.
Burial: St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery

John Sullivan
John "Vin" Sullivan, 97, formerly of East Grand Forks, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, in Villa St. Vincent, Crookston.
John Vincent Sullivan was born March 28, 1903, the son of James and Catherine (Hogan) Sullivan, in East Grand Forks, where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army from July 22, 1942 until July 1, 1945, during World War II. He returned to East Grand Forks where he began working at the East Grand Forks Fire Department in 1946 and in 1951 he became Fire Chief. He married
Lorraine Anderson on June 18, 1952, in East Grand Forks. In 1964, he organized a rural East Grand Forks Fire Department to provide fire protection to the six township of rural East Grand Forks. He retired in 1968 with more than 40 years of service as a volunteer fireman and full-time fireman.
He is survived by his wife.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Edward, Ralph and Earl; and sisters, Etta, Olive and Edna.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Norman Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Morris Smith
HILLSBORO, N.D. -- Morris Smith, 99, Hillsboro, died Saturday, Sept, 9, 2000, in Hillsboro Medical Center Hospital.
Morris Peter Smith was born Sept. 25, 1900, the son of Peter and Manda (Ike) Smith, in Caledonia Township, Caledonia, N.D. He moved with his family to Good Luck Township, Williams County, N.D., where he attended school. In 1917 they moved to the Hillsboro area. He served in the military. He married
Signa Gunderson on Dec. 15, 1928, in Crookston. He farmed for several years until becoming custodian at the Trail County Courthouse, in Hillsboro.
He is survived by his children, Hazel Riepe, Ada, Minn., Inez (Russell) Kappes, Greenbush, Minn., and Milfred (Caroline) Smith, Hillsboro; 18 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Palmer; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Olson; and brothers, Peter, Ordean and William.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Hillsboro.
Visitation: 5 to 9 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Wildeman Funeral Home, Hillsboro, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Cummings, N.D.
Kathleen Hunter
MILTON, N.D. -- Kathleen A. Hunter, 53, Milton, died Sunday Sept. 10, 2000, in Maple Manor Nursing Home, Langdon, N.D.
Kathleen A. Praska was born July 30, 1947, the daughter of Albert and Katherine (Houser) Praska, in Park River, N.D. She attended school in Holt and Newfolden, Minn., graduating in 1965. She attended the AVTI in Thief River Falls, Minn. She worked at the Thief River Falls Clinic and First Federal Savings and Loan. She married
Robert Hunter on Aug. 15, 1970, in Holt. They lived in Milton, where she worked at the Milton Schools, Harvest States Elevator, and Milton Hartz store. She had worked as the city auditor for the past 10 years. She was also an Avon representative for the past 30 years.
She is survived by her husband; and her mother, Osnabrock, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her father; and a brother, David.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Milton Lutheran Church.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: 2 p.m. Friday, Holt City Cemetery, Holt, Minn. (Tollefson, Edinburg, N.D.).
Dorothy Gray
Dorothy I. Gray, 83, died Aug. 22, 2000, in Escondida, Calif.
Dorothy I. Reinertson was born Nov. 29, 1916, the daughter of Joseph and Inger (Hasle) Reinertson, in Hurdsville, N.D. She attended school in Hurdsville, Bowdon, N.D., and Grand Forks. She graduated from UND in 1938. She married
Arthur Gray in 1954, in Los Angeles. There were both CPAs, having their own business. He died in 1983.
She is survived by brothers, Joseph (Margaret), Faribault, Minn., and Robert (Georgene), Grand Forks; and a stepdaughter, Mora Gray, Miami.
Memorial services: Were held in Escondida.
Gerda Berg
MAYVILLE, N.D. -- Gerda Berg, 93, Mayville, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, in Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, where she had lived since 1994.
Gerda Marion Kaldor was born March 6, 1907, the daughter of Oscar and Clara (Swalstad) Kaldor, in Hillsboro, N.D. She attended school near Mayville and in Fargo. She married
Joseph Berg on March 28, 1937, in Portland, N.D., where they farmed until 1987.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Orville, Duluth; five foster grandchildren; six foster great-grandchildren; brothers, Morris (Bertha), Arlington, Wash., Willard, Billings, Mont., and Kenneth, Mayville; and a sister, Harriet (Myron) Ulland, Mayville.
She was preceded in death by a foster daughter, Virginia Novotny; a brother, Odin; and a sister, Beatrice Szilagyi.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Aurdal Lutheran Church, Portland.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Aurdal Cemetery, Portland.
