Aileen Gilmour
Aileen M. Gilmour, 81, 2068 Westminster Court, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at home.
Aileen Margaret Freer was born Sept. 20, 1919, the daughter of Frederick and Genevieve (Lynch) Freer, in St. Paul. She attended school in Brainerd, Minn., and Devils Lake, and graduated from high school in Grand Forks in 1937. She married
William Gilmour on June 16, 1939, in Grand Forks.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Patricia (David) Mersy, Albany, N.Y.; a son, Tom, Dallas; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Hanlon.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, S. Washington St.
Visitation: One hour before services.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks. Memorials are suggested to St. Michael's Foundation and St. Michael's Bridge Builders, both of 520 N. Sixth St. Grand Forks, N.D. 58203.
Bertha Hertwig
MAYVILLE, N.D. -- Bertha Hertwig, 84, Mayville, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in Luther Memorial Home, Mayville.
Bertha Sophie Ostby was born Aug. 4, 1916, the daughter of Anna and Martin Ostby, in Finley, N.D. She worked for several years in Galesburg, N.D. She married
Roy Hertwig. He died in 1982.
She is survived by a daughter, Bernice (Purcell) Hovland, Moorhead; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Myrtle (Kenneth) Sletten, Renton, Wash., Norma Axelson, Black Eagle, Mont., and Irene (Walter) Enger, Hatton, N.D.; and a brother, Willard, Sacramento, Calif.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Services: 1: 30 p.m. Wednesday, Baker Funeral Home, Mayville.
Burial: Hillsboro (N.D.) Cemetery.
Francis LeBlanc
Francis N. "Lefty" LeBlanc, 77, 418 S. Ninth St., died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in Altru Hospital.
Francis Noel LeBlanc was born Dec. 24, 1922, the son of Arthur and Flora (Corbin) LeBlanc, in Crookston. He moved with his family to Grand Forks, where he graduated from high school in 1940. He played semi-professional baseball for the minor league farm team of the Boston Red Sox in Crookston. He served in the U.S. Army and fought in the European Theater. He returned to Grand Forks and worked as a controller for the Armor Co. He married
LaVaughn Appelgren on July 19, 1952, in Grand Forks. He worked for the Grand Forks post office as a mail carrier from 1958 until retiring in 1983. LaVaughn LeBlanc died Feb. 4, 1988.
He is survived by daughters, Benita (Kevin) Capouch, Fargo, and Beth (David) Kasprick, Grand Forks; sons, Dr. Francis Jr. (Virginia), Perham, Minn., and Jeffrey, Duluth; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Jeanne LeBlanc, Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur, Aime, David and Elmer.
Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service and 4: 30 p.m. rosary, Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, S. Washington St.
Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Military rites: American Legion Post 157 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817.
Mildred Widness
Mildred E. Widness, 83, East Grand Forks, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, in Valley Memorial Eldercare Center, Grand Forks.
Mildred E. Cumming was born Aug. 28, 1917, the daughter of William and Nettie (Hannah) Cumming, in Grand Forks. She attended school in East Grand Forks. She worked for Bridgeman Creameries in Crookston. She married
Oswald Widness on June 2, 1949, in East Grand Forks. She worked for Minnesota Dairy Co. for 19 years.
She is survived by her husband; and sisters, Eleanor Mercil, Vancouver, Wash., and Janet Cumming, Hutchinson, Minn.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Donna; and brothers, Russell and John.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Mendenhall Presbyterian Church, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks.
Burial: Nisbet Cemetery, Mallory, Minn.
David Abrahamson
CROOKSTON -- David L. Abrahamson, 45, Crookston, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in St. Paul, from injuries received in a one-vehicle accident early Saturday near his home
David Lee Abrahamson was born Dec. 5, 1954, the son of Harold and Doris (Herberg) Abrahamson, in Crookston, where he graduated from high school in 1973. He worked at American Crystal Sugar Co. in Crookston. He married
Karen Wick on April 3, 1976, in Crookston. He had been working as a steam-pipe fitter in the Crystal factory.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Kristal, at home; a son, Jason, at home; his mother, Doris Krause, Crookston; brothers, Rodney (Kristi) and Wayne, both of Crookston; a sister, Lisa Abrahamson, Crookston; stepbrother, Kevin (Janet) Krause, Crookston; and a stepsister, Pam (Howard) Apple-¨quist, Crookston.
He was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents, Bert and Edna Abrahamson, and Harry and Anna Herberg.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Crookston.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
Mary Evanson
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Mary Evanson, 74, New Rockford, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, in Carrington (N.D.) Health Center.
Mary Elizabeth Hart was born June 21, 1926, the daughter of Harry and Lillie (Davis) Hart, in Albany, Ore. In 1928, the family moved to Jamestown, N.D., where she graduated from high school. In 1947, she graduated from Jamestown College. She taught at Williston High School for two years. She married
James Evanson on June 4, 1949, in Jamestown. They lived in Minneapolis for two years, and in 1952, they moved to New Rockford. In 1965, she went to work for Eddy County Social Services and became the Eddy County Social Services director in 1973. She retired in 1990. In 1993, she was appointed to the North Dakota Governor's Task Force on Long Term Care. She was on the State AARP Legislative Council from 1993 to 1999 and was appointed to the National AARP Legislative Council in 1998 as a Midwest representative.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Charles (Karen), New Rockford, John, West Fargo, N.D., and Doug (Dawn), Redmond, Wash.; daughters, Emily Hilgers, Moorhead, and Anna (Doug) Hoffman, Williston; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Ogden; and a brother, Thomas.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, United Methodist Church, New Rockford.
Visitation: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.
