Helen Berger
Helen Berger, 77, Ottertail Lake, Minn., formerly of Grand Forks, died Oct. 21, 2000, in Island Hospital, Anacortes, Wash.
Helen Louise Burns was born April 17, 1923, the daughter of Leonard and Louise Burns, in McVille, N.D. She grew up and attended school in Grand Forks. She graduated from UND with a bachelor's degree in marketing and from St. Cloud State with degrees in art and English. She worked as a teacher in Olgilvie, Minn., and as a housemother for Delta Delta Delta Sorority at UND.
She is survived by a daughter, Paula (Dallas) Sween, Appleton, Wis.; sons, Bruce (Carol), Raleigh, N.C., and Craig (Lynda), Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Burns Johnson, Perham, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Dr. Phil Berger.
Services: Private services will be held in Minnesota (Evans, Anacortes).
Lula Drovdahl
Lula V. Drovdahl, 88, Grand Forks, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, in Valley 4000 Square.
Lula Vivian Anderson was born Aug. 12, 1912, the daughter of Oscar and Tillie (Blegan) Anderson, in Sharon, N.D., where she attended school. She attended North Dakota State College in Mayville, N.D. She married
Leonard Drovdahl on Dec. 24, 1943, in Grand Forks. They lived in Grand Forks. Leonard Drovdahl died April 8, 1987.
She is survived by a brother-in-law, Randall Drovdahl, El Paso, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Myrtle Bean, Bremerton, Wash.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Haun.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Amundson Funeral Home.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Gloria Reuter
BEMIDJI -- Gloria M. Reuter, 74, Bemidji, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Gloria Mavis Risberg was born April 30, 1926, the daughter of Walmer and Gladys (Hagberg) Risberg, in Crookston. She grew up in Thief River Falls, where she attended school. In 1941, they moved to International Falls, Minn., where she graduated from high school in 1944. She worked as a secretary. She married
Virgil Reuter on June 17, 1946. They lived in International Falls until 1953, when they moved to Bemidji. They owned and operated Reuter Furniture Mart which later became Kordel Furniture. She graduated from Bemidji State College in 1969. She worked in the accounting services department and as director of accounting at Bemidji State University. She retired in 1992. Virgil Reuter died July 29, 1998.
She is survived by sons, K. William, Parsippany, N.Y., Richard (Sharon), Seattle, and Bradley (Carol), Stillwater, Minn.; four grandchildren; and sisters, Wanda Vertnik, International Falls, and Janice (Donald) Thompson, Minnetonka, Minn.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, First Lutheran Church, Bemidji.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji. Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church.
James Fisk
James Fisk, 62, San Diego, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000.
James Landon Fisk was born Dec. 3, 1937, the son of Joseph and Rita Fisk, in Omaha, Neb. He moved with his family to Phoenix, where he attended high school and graduated from Arizona State University in architecture. He then moved to San Diego where he married
Karen Winters. He worked for the city of San Diego in the city planning office for 20 years. He then became a partner in a land-use consulting business in the San Diego area. He retired in 1993.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Michael (Peggy) and Steven, both of San Diego; two grandchildren; his mother, Grand Forks; and a sister, Carol (Gary) Sondreal, Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services: Private services at Clairmont Mortuary, San Diego. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society.
Gary Prodzinski
JAMESTOWN, N.D. -- Gary Prodzinski, 47, Jamestown, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, in Hi Acre Manor, Jamestown.
Gary Michael Prodzinski was born Oct. 7, 1953, the son of Alex and Veronica (Cebula) Prodzinski, in Jamestown. He grew up and attended school near Buchanan, N.D. He graduated from high school in Buchanan in 1971. He worked on the family farm. In the mid-1970s he work as a bell boy for the Ramada Inn, Jamestown. In 1976, he returned to the family farm. In November 1979, he began working for Crippled Children's School. He married
Deborah "Deb" Siebels on June 13, 1981, in Fargo. In August 1981, he began working for North Dakota State Hospital, Jamestown, as a mental health care specialist I, and later as a MHCS-II. In 1987, he began working for Mercy Hospital, Valley City, N.D., as an orderly. He returned to North Dakota State Hospital in April 1989. He retired in March 1993. They moved to Grand Forks in 1993, Bismarck in 1997, and to Jamestown in 1999.
He is survived by his wife; his mother, Buchanan; brothers, Gene (Kathy), Avon, Minn., and Dennis, Buchanan; sisters, Carol (Joel) Lees, Betty Prodzinski and Angela Prodzinski, all of Buchanan, and Cynthia (Rod) Morlock, Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by two children; his father; and grandparents, Frank and Anna Cebula and Mike and Pauline Prodzinski.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fried, N.D.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. rosary and a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, all in Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fried, N.D. Memorials are suggested to Jamestown Hospital Hospice Program.
Leo Thomas
DEVILS LAKE -- Leo W. Thomas, 76, Devils Lake, formerly of Cando, N.D., died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fargo.
Leo William Thomas was born July 19, 1924, the son of Clarence and Elnore (Fell) Thomas, in Hubbard County, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Hansboro, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army from March 1944 to February 1946, during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star. He returned to Hansboro, where he worked as a mechanic. He married
Ila York on Sept. 1, 1949, in Hansboro. They lived in Hansboro until 1951, when they moved to Perth, N.D. He worked for Farmer's Union Oil Co. He worked in Cando from 1966 to 1990. They moved into Cando in 1980. They moved to Devils Lake in 1992, where he worked with the Green Thumb Program at Lake Region State College.
He is survived by his wife; sons, David (Caroline) and Steven, both of Fargo; a daughter, LeeAnn (Alfred) LaFrance, North Glen, Colo.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Darl (Darlene), Hansboro, and Dean (Sharon), Salem, Ore.; and sisters, Anna Sommerson and Betty Strutz, both of Gervais, Ore., and Lucille (William) Geib, Junction City, Ore.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Alfred and Earl.
Memorial Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando.
Burial: Hansboro Cemetery.
Laura Owen-Scheuble
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Laura "Lollie" Owen-Scheuble, 77, Minneapolis, formerly of Thief River Falls, died Oct. 22, 2000, in North Memorial Medical Center, Robbinsdale, Minn.
Laura Katherine Beulke was born Oct. 15, 1923, the daughter of Theodore and Lydia (Stucke) Beulke, in Frazee, Minn. They lived in communities in North Dakota and Minnesota. She graduated from high school in Thief River Falls in 1942. She attended Eitel Hospital School of Nursing, Minneapolis. She married
Llewellyn "Lewy" Owen on Dec. 12, 1943. They lived in Thief River Falls. She worked at Oakland Park Nursing Home and Northwest Medical Center. Llewellyn Owen died Oct. 14, 1966. She married
Harry Scheuble on April 22, 1972. They lived in Minneapolis. She worked for nursing homes and as a private duty nurse for handicapped children.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Jerry (Ruth) Owen, Thief River Falls, and Jack Owen, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; a daughter, Susie (Wayne) Koland, Thief River Falls; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Beverly and Bill Scheuble; and a brother-in-law, Tony Dorn Sr.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Teddy Dorn and Lucille Janecky.
Memorial services: Today in United Methodist Church, Thief River Falls.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls (Green, Thief River Falls).
