Werner Klein
CROOKSTON -- Werner Klein, 88, Crookston, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at home.
Werner Jacob Klein was born Oct. 22, 1912, the son of David and Rosina (Hoffman) Klein, in Eureka, S.D., where he attended school. He moved with his family to Red Lake Falls, Minn., and a few years later moved to Fisher, Minn. He married
Ellen Klema on Nov. 29, 1941, in Fisher. After working for area farmers, they bought a farm in Fisher Township in 1944. In 1974, they retired. They moved to Crookston in 1994.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Donald (JoLane), Fisher; a daughter, Sandra (Daniel) Kegler, Crookston; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene, Stanton, Calif.; a sister, Annetta Raymond; and two sisters-in-law, Maisie Klein, Billings, Mont., and Barbara Klein, Clayton, Ga.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Herbert, Edwin, Art, Lenhart and James; and a sister, Elsie Belker.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Fisher.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Fisher.
Mildred Ryum
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Mildred C. Ryum, 90, New Rockford, formerly of Glenfield, N.D., died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, where she had lived since April 1, 1988.
Mildred C. Michaelson was born Oct. 25, 1910, the daughter of Mike and Agnes (Ellefson) Michaelson, in Wimbledon, N.D., where she attended school. She cleaned houses, did cooking for threshing crews in the cook cars, and later was a waitress in Van Hook, N.D., and Glenfield. She married
Ernest Ryum on Nov. 13, 1932, in Homer, Neb., where they worked picking corn. They moved to the Ryum family farm in Glenfield. Ernest Ryum died Sept. 15, 1985.
She is survived by sons, Gary (Carol), Max, N.D., and Ricky (Cathy), Moorhead; daughters, Mylerna Hoyt, McHenry, N.D., and Vicki (Roger) Schlotman, Carrington, N.D.; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Posey, Grand Forks.
She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Glenfield Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 11 a.m. to 8: 30 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Burial: Glenfield Cemetery.
Eva Kuhn
Eva Kuhn, 80, East Grand Forks, formerly of Towner, N.D., died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Valley Elder Care, Grand Forks.
Eva Pauline Haman, was born Dec. 31, 1919, the daughter of Peter and Magdalena (Jaeger) Haman, in McHenry County, N.D., where she attended school. She married
Adam Kuhn on Nov. 17, 1941, in Towner. They lived and farmed near Towner. Adam Kuhn died May 8, 1989. She moved to Rugby in 1995 and to East Grand Forks in 1998.
She is survived by sons, Peter (Eunice) and Mark (Myra), both of Grand Forks, Dale (Pat), Towner, and Blaine (Maryann) Katy, Texas; a daughter, Karol (Bradley) Johnson, Chanhassen, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; sisters, Barbara Ebach, Minot, Elizabeth Caron, Minneapolis, Katherine Lundin, Denver, Beatrice Tolle, Henderson, Nev., and Sister Juliana Haman, Mitchell, S.D.; and brothers, Fred and Clemence, both of Rugby, Joe, Towner, William, Devils Lake, and Richard, Bismarck.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Adam; and a sister, Clara.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Towner.
Visitation: 2: 30 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home, Towner, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Church cemetery.
Gordon Kroeber
Gordon M. Kroeber, 77, 421 South sixth St., died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Gordon M. Kroeber was born June 12, 1923, the son of Adam and Mabel (Hugelen) Kroeber, in Napoleon, N.D., where he attended school. He graduated from UND with a degree in accounting. In February 1943, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was discharged on Oct. 16, 1945. He returned to Grand Forks, where he attended UND and received a degree in civil engineering. He married
Margaretmary Butler on June 18, 1948, in Cando, N.D. In 1950, they moved to Bismarck, where he worked for Fraine Barracks. In 1957, they returned to Grand Forks, where he was superintendent of building and grounds at UND. In 1969, he became the assistant to the president of UND Facilities. Margaretmary Kroeber died Oct. 14, 1987. He retired in 1989.
He is survived by sons, Ross (Sandra), Woodbury, Minn., and Scott (Elizabeth), Grand Forks; daughters, Kerry (Bill) Marti, Grand Forks, Debra (Doug) Emerson, Bismarck, Patricia (Jerry) Palczewski, Scranton, N.D., and Kim (Tom) Buchholz, Fargo; 13 grandchildren; brothers, Vance (Cathryn), Las Vegas, and Wally (Blanche), Bismarck; and sisters, Lenore Steinhaus, Enderlin, N.D., and Virginia (Harold) Foltz, Upton, Wyo.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kent.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, with a 4 p.m. prayer service, Norman Funeral Home, Columbia Road.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Military rites: American Legion Post No. 157 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3817, East Grand Forks.
Herbert Etterman
LANGDON, N.D. -- Herbert Etterman, 83, Langdon, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, in Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Osnabrock, N.D., where he had lived since 1997.
Herbert Arnold Otto Etterman was born April 15, 1917, the son of Adolph and Annie (Penner) Etterman, in Wales, N.D., where he attended school. He married
Anna Veer on Dec. 10, 1939, in Langdon. They farmed near Langdon until 1955, when they moved into Langdon. Anna Etterman died April 19, 1997.
He is survived by sisters, Phebe Ratzlaf, Langdon, Annie Bergley, Phoenix, and Ruth Stein, Fargo; and brothers, Paul, Fargo, James, in Texas, and Simon, in Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Edwin and Richard; and a sister, Gertrude Willman.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Brooks Funeral Home, Langdon.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Bethel Cemetery, Langdon.
Donald Good
FINLEY, N.D. -- Donald G. Good, 80, Finley, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Veterans Administration Hospital, Fargo.
Donald G. Good was born May 3, 1920, the son of George and Anna (VanDyke) Good, in Aneta, N.D. He attended school in Finley and later in Fargo. He married
Lily Hegna on Oct. 20, 1943, in Moorhead. He served in the Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946. He received the Good Conduct Medal. He returned to Finley and farmed.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Linda (Joel) Anderson, Finley, and Donella (Tom) Roble, Fargo; a son, Randy (Kathy), Finley; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Gordon (Avis), Marysville, Wash.; and a sister, Edith Good, Aneta.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Finley Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Finley.
Burial: Finley Cemetery.
