Mary Sutyla
Mary Sutyla passed away from this earth on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the age of 93 while a resident at Bethany on 42nd, Fargo, ND. Funeral mass will be Monday, August 15, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Geneseo, ND with burial at St. Martin’s Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Mary was born September 8, 1922 on the family farm to Walter & Anna (Scheveck) Ciesynski. She attended Herman #4 country school and completed grades 1-8. Mary walked to school and made life-long friends with her other 3 classmates. After finishing 8th grade Mary worked on the farm.
ary was united in marriage to Aloysius Sutyla on June 10, 1946 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Geneseo. Mary & Aloysius lived on Aloysius’ birth farm and farmed near Geneseo until his death on March 30, 1958.
Prior to her marriage, Mary had hopes and dreams to go “out west” with a friend to work on airplanes. That never happened, but she did venture to Sioux Falls, SD with Aloysius’ sister, Vicki and worked at the John Morrell packing plant for approximately 12 weeks until Vicki returned home to help her sister with her new baby. Mary also returned home.
Mary was a resident of Wahpeton for nearly 48 years. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and also a life-long member of the Eagle’s Auxiliary in Wahpeton. Mary worked various jobs throughout her life, but her most memorable and proud years were spent at Alstatt Drug in Breckenridge, MN. She worked at the store from 1961-1994, retiring after 33 years. Mary was always very proud of her job and was an employee anyone would be proud to have.
Mary loved to travel and enjoyed many bus trips with family & friends. Mary attended many dances at the Eagle’s club and enjoyed playing cards & being with people.
She is survived by her nephew: Lyle (Mary Walker) Paczkowski, Ross, Paul & Anna Paczkowski; nieces: Becky (Dale) Hebert, Roger, Greg (Tory) Hebert & Carly Hebert and Angela (Greg) Diehl and Logan, Dylan & Morgan Diehl.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband: Aloysius; parents: Walter & Anna Ciesynski; sister and brother-in-law: Clara & Archie Paczkowski.
Mary was a gracious and strong woman and while not being able to walk the past 3 years, she is now walking with God in Heaven.

Dillon C. McCrary
Funeral services for Dillon C. McCrary, 4, Castle Rock, Colo., were held on Saturday, March 31, 2001 at Tulsa Bible Church. He died on Tuesday, March 27, 2001.
Dillon Carter McCrary, son of Scott and Stephanie (Devitt) McCrary, was born on July 30, 1996 in Houston, Tex. He had lived in Tulsa, Okla. for much of his life and recently moved to Castle Rock, Colo.
He is survived by his parents, Scott and Stephanie McCrary, Castle Rock, Colo.; one brother, Devin, and one sister, Taylor, both of Castle Rock, Colo.; grandparents, Sam and Helen McCrary, Pam and Terry Devitt and John Houchin; great-grandparents, Mary and Lawrence Houchin, Tulsa, Okla; Naralee Hilton, Sand Springs, Okla.; Dixie King, Wills Point, Tex. Mary Ellen and Laurence Devitt, Lisbon; aunts and uncles, Jim and Leslie McCrary, Tulsa, Okla.; Christopher McCrary, Irving, Tex.; Lori and Alvin Buckner, Tulsa, Okla.; cousins, Brittany and Sam McAnelly, Sam and Bobby McCrary.
Interment at Garden of Angels, Floral Haven.

Kendall E. Mork
Funeral services for Kendall E. Mork, 82, Hatton, ND, were held on Friday, April 6, 2001 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hatton. Pastor Reuben Jacobson officiated. Mr. Mork died on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 in the VA Hospital, Fargo.
Kendall Eugene Mork, son of Knute and Lillian (Ramsdell) Mork, was born on December 7, 1918 in Minneapolis. Due to the early death of his parents, he was raised by his aunt and uncle, John and Trina (Mork) Dahl in Hatton. He graduated from Hatton High School and attended Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. He was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps over Europe, flying a B-17, the Flying Fortress. Although he was ordered to fly 25 missions, he volunteeredfor several more but on his 28th mission, he was shot down over Austria. He was badly wounded but, in a prisoner exchange, gave his place to someone else and became a Prisoner of War and was declared Missing in Action from January to July 1944. He received the following medals: Distinguished Flying Cross, three Purple Hearts, 5 cluster Air Medal and Group Citations. He retired, due to disability and was a member of the American Legion for 55 years.
On July 10, 1945, he married Eileen Eielson Osking. He farmed east of Hatton, ND and had an animal sanctuary and was elected Director of the Garrison Diversion Project and National Water Resource Board for 15 years. He was a founder of the Golden Lake Development Project and active in the formation of the Hatton Improvement Corporation.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen Mork, Hatton; one son, Kendall E. Mork II, Vancouver, Wash.; two daughters, Kristi Carlson, Lisbon and Kari Kaiser-Mork, Zurich, Switzerland; one sister, Pat Lundquist, St. Paul, Minn.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Emilie Moen, Mayville, ND.
Music was provided by organist Darlene Owen and soloist James Bilden.
The Presentation of the Flag was by the Grand Forks Air Force Base Honor Guard and the Carroll O. Flesche Post #70 of Hatton presented the family the P.O.W. Flag.

Jeffrey O. Landsem
The funeral services for Jeffrey O. Landsem, 47, Grenora, ND, were held on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Grenora. Reverend Scott Chinburg officiated. Mr. Landsem died in an automobile accident on Thursday, April 5, 2001.
Jeffrey O. Landsem, son of Orvin J. and Delores (Peterson) Landsem, was born on January 30, 1954 in Moorhead. He was raised in the Protestant faith. He was raised at Leonard and graduated from Leonard High School in 1973. While in high school, he played guard position on the basketball team and was also a state caliber sprinter on the track team. He was also active in the the rodeo and was a bull rider.
He married Sally Jessen-Yalovitch and they had one daughter, Sara. This marriage ended and Jeff moved to Grenora in 1979, working as a consultant in the oil industry.
On June 9, 1979, he married Shari Wendlin in Leonard. They had one son. When the oil activity dwindled, he purchased the Centennial Bar in Grenora, which he operated until his death. He and Shari also raised and trained quarter-horses. He was a volunteer fireman with the Grenora Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Shari Landsem, Grenora, ND; one daughter, Sara (Matthew) McArthur, Minneapolis; one son, Levi Landsem, Grenora; his father, Orvin Landsem, Lisbon; two sisters, Tami (Mark) Rennick and Judy (William) Bernstein, all of Leonard; and one grandson, Douglas McArthur. He was preceded in death by his mother, Delores Landsem.
Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston, ND, was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary A. Strand
Funeral services for Mary A. Strand, 76, Lisbon, will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisbon. Visitation is on Monday, April 16, 2001 from 2:00-9:00 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Lisbon. Reverend Norm Anderson and Reverend Dave Killeen will be officiating. Mrs. Strand died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Mary A. McMahon, daughter of Stephen H. and Rachel (Smith) McMahon, was born on June 22, 1924 in Staples, Minn. She attended school at Gardner, ND and Wild Rice, Minn.
On November 8, 1942, she married Almont P. Strand in Enderlin. They farmed near Lisbon. Mary had worked at Fairway Foods and Dinty Moore Cafe, both in Lisbon. They moved into Lisbon in 1982. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Almont P. Strand, Lisbon; four daughters, Sylvia Cole, Bowman, ND; Gaylene (Larry) Leonard, Sandee (Greg) Cote and Lynn (Marty) Lazechko, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one son, Allan Strand, Lisbon; five brothers, Phil (Gerry) McMahon, Robert McMahon and Joseph McMahon, all of Lisbon; Richard (Betty) McMahon, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Ted (Joyce) McMahon, Hopkins, Minn.; one sister, Barbara LeDoux, Bothell, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom, Bud and Harold McMahon and two sisters, Genevive and Delores McMahon.
Pallbearers for the funeral will be Larry Leonard, Greg Cote, Marty Lazechko, Jeff Kelsen, Daniel Bowles and Tad Seelye-Lazechko.
Music provided by organist Jan Hansen and soloist Rochelle Kelsen.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Dennis C. Stubson
Funeral services for Dennis C. Stubson, 53, Warwick, ND, were held on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Warwick Lutheran Church, Warwick. Reverend David Nichols officiated. Mr. Stubson died Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Dennis Clarence Stubson, son of Einar T. and Ruth A. (Jacobson) Stubson, was born on September 10, 1947 at Devils Lake. He was raised at Warwick and attended Warwick High School, graduating in 1965. He attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Dennis also attended classes at Bemidji State University, Winona State University and in Bismarck during the summer months where he became involved in the computer sciences.
He began teaching Math at Pembina, ND for eight years. He then moved to New Rockford, where he taught Math for 23 years and also taught computer classes in the later years. In May 2000, he retired from teaching and enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing pool with friends. Dennis also farmed the family farm for several years. He was a member of the Warwick Lutheran Church, the Lions Club in New Rockford, The NDEA and the New Rockford Education Association where he held various positions.
He is survived by one brother, Duane Stubson, Warwick; one sister, Inez (Russell) Coenen, Red Lake Falls, MN; one nephew, James (Billye Jo) Coenen, Lisbon; one niece, Elizabeth Coenen, Red Lake Falls, MN; aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece, Kristen Coenen.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Marvin Walter, Jr., Jerry “Friz” Brodell, Ronald Papacheck, Gary Elfman, Erich Longie and Wesley Sigette.
Music was provided by organist Roger Forde.
Interment at Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, ND. Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND, was in charge of arrangements.

Frieda C. Hoy
Funeral services for Frieda C. Hoy, 89, Lisbon (formerly Sheldon), were held on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at Anselm Trinity Lutheran Church. Reverend Norm Anderson officiated. Mrs. Hoy died on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Parkside Home, Lisbon.
Frieda Cecelia Larson, daughter of Henry and Bertina (Opheim) Larson, was born on July 6, 1911 in rural Sheldon. She attended rural Sheldon school and when she was 13, she went to Canada to live with her aunt and uncle. After a year, she returned to Sheldon.
On October 1, 1926, she married Archie Hoy in Fargo. They lived in the Sheldon area before moving to Crescent City, Calif where Frieda worked at a hospital and at a seafood factory for 20 years. They returned to Sheldon where Frieda worked as a cook at the Sheldon School. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Kitchenaires. She entered Parkside Home September 2, 1997.
She is survived by one son, Archie Hoy, Jr., Enderlin; four sisters, Hazel Lester, Moorhead; Emma Holland, Akeley, Minn.; Mae Bjorgan, Sheldon; and Norann (Ernest) Carter, Lisbon; 14 grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Hoy, who died March 2, 1995; one son, Alfred Hoy; and four daughters, Ellen, Shirley, Meryl and Doris Hoy.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Ole Larson, Norman Hoaby, Monte Hoy, Micah Hoy, Tyson Hoy and Ernest Carter.
Music was provided by organist Irene Hoenhause.
Interment at St. Paul Cemetery, rural Lisbon. Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.

Alvin Heiden
Funeral services for Alvin Heiden, 71, Lisbon (formerly Carrington, ND), were held on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington. Lay Pastor Russell Christiansen officiated. Mr. Heiden died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at the Lisbon Medical Center.
Alvin Eugene Heiden, son of Edward and Edith (Reutter) Heiden, was born on February 13, 1930 in Tappen, ND. He served in the US Army in 1952-53 in the Korean Conflict. For many years he worked for Clark Truck Line, Carrinton, and then for the city of Carrington. Alvin later worked for Northern Tank Liner.
Alvin entered the North Dakota Veteran’s Home in Lisbon in March 1993.
He is survived by seven sons, Steven (Becky) Heiden, Granville, Ill.; Neil (Carla) Heiden, Spicer, Minn.; Joel (Susan) Heiden, Grand Forks; Mitch (Colleen) Heiden, Bismarck; Garth (Stacie) Heiden, Fargo; Matthew (Barbara) Heiden, Fargo; and Charles (Nichole) Heiden, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; two daughters, Jeanette (Howard) Wilson, Ft. Morgan, Colo. and Allison Heiden, Fargo; two sisters, Violet Gunst and Joyce Laush, both of Jamestown; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Fred Miller; and one brother, Orval Heiden.
Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, ND, was in charge of arrangements.
