Gordon Osland
MAYVILLE, N.D. -- Gordon "Bucky" Osland, 55, Mayville, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, in Union Hospital, Mayville.
Gordon John Osland was born Oct. 18, 1945, the son of Roy and Gladys (Renedahl) Osland, in Mayville, where he graduated from high school in 1963. He completed school in Minneapolis for labratory and X-ray technician. He worked for businesses in the Mayville-Portland area as a truck driver. He attended Mayville State College and received a degree in business. He married
Linda Ernest on July 3, 1970, in Portland.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Angie (Kirby) Ree, Portland, Beth (Brian) Midgett, East Hampton, N.Y., and Racheal Osland, Grand Forks; four grandsons; his mother; brothers, Robert (Karen), Williston, N.D., and Michael (Joan), Mayville; and a sister, Elizabeth (Curtiss) Strom, Burnsville, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Bruflat Lutheran Church, Portland.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Bruflat Cemetery, Portland.
Hattie Berglund
DEVILS LAKE -- Hattie L. Berglund, 85, Devils Lake, formerly of Heimdal, N.D., died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Hattie Luebelle Fossen was born Aug. 4, 1915, the daughter of Andrew and Otina (Running) Fossen, in Heimdal, where she attended school. She married
Henry Berglund on Aug. 26, 1933. They lived and farmed near Heimdal. Henry Berglund died July 6, 1971.
She is survived by sons, Harold (Dallas), Cavalier, N.D., Ardell, Underwood, N.D., and Glenn, Devils Lake; daughters, Marlys (Don) Baumann, Beach, N.D., and Donna (Guy) Rogers, San Antonio, Texas; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin, New Rockford, N.D.; and a sister, Cora Stensrud, Devils Lake.
She was preceded in death by a son, Leo; brothers, Orvin and Ardin; and sisters, Arlene Theise, Olive Togstad, Effie Fossen and Lilly Fossen.
Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Klara Lutheran Church, Heimdal.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock, N.D., and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Church cemetery.
Emma Stevens
BEMIDJI -- Emma A. Stevens, 85, Tenstrike, Minn., formerly of Bemidji, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, in Meadowland Elder Care Homes, Tenstrike, where she has lived since 1997.
Emma A. Kupcho was born March 27, 1915, the daughter of Mike and Anna (Zustiak) Kupcho, in Moose Park Township, Itasca County, Minn., where she attended school. She graduated from high school in Grand Rapids, Minn. She attended French's Business College, Bemidji. She worked for Mac's Hamburger Shop, Bemidji. She married
Joseph Stevens on Sept. 15, 1946, in Bemidji. They lived in Bemidji.
She is survived by a brother, Ray (Ann) Kupcho, Blackduck, Minn.; and a sister, Leona Loewen, South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and brothers, Joseph, Frank, Fred and John.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.
Maurice Howatt
DEVILS LAKE -- Maurice H. Howatt, 79, Devils Lake, formerly of Hannah, N.D., died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at home.
Maurice H. Howatt was born Oct. 24, 1921, the son of Orlo and Thelma (Witzel) Howatt, in Maida, N.D. He grew up and attended school near Langdon, N.D. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married
Phyllis Fischer on Nov. 27, 1944, in Norfolk, Va. They lived and farmed near Hannah until retiring in 1981. They moved to Devils Lake. Phyllis Howatt died April 17, 1984.
He is survived by daughters, Sharon Faul, Laurel Howatt and Susan (Mark) Estenson, all of Devils Lake, and Juanita "Bonnie" Zeis, Minot; sons, Thomas (Sheila), Enumclaw, Wash., Gerald (Patty) and Rodney (Connie), both of Langdon, Shawn (Bonnie), Starkweather, N.D., Mark (Theresa), Omaha, Neb., and Sharon, Hannah; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Lyle (Genieve), Maida, Stewart (Betty) and Floyd, both of Langdon, Russell, Vista, Calif., and Lois, Cooperstown, N.D.; and sisters, Zelpha Murie, Osnabrock, N.D., Mary Orlady, Truckee, Calif., Faye Lorenz, Shirley (Orlin) Greene and Marjorie (Ronald) Sturlaugson, all of Fargo, and Gertrude (Loren) Field, Langdon.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bradley; and brothers, Wayne and Neil.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. family service, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before services in the church.

Cletus Poitra
ST. JOHN, N.D. -- Cletus H. Poitra, 59, Minneapolis, formerly of St. John, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, in a Minneapolis hospital.
Cletus H. Poitra was born May 8, 1941, the son of Philip and Margaret (Wilkie) Poitra, in Belcourt, N.D. He grew up in St. John. He graduated from high school in Belcourt in 1958. He married
Betty Kjervestad in 1961. He graduated from North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton in 1964. He worked as a printer in Bottineau and Minot. He moved to Minneapolis and worked for the Star Tribune as a printer. He founded Everything for the Office, Inc. He returned to the Turtle Mountains and worked to build Turtle Mountain Manufacturing and Turtle Mountain Mall. He moved to Minneapolis and worked for Scoville Press until retiring in 1994.
He is survived by daughters, Vickie Parisien, Peggy Poitra, Jackie (Kirk) Crowshoe, Michele Poitra, and Chad Poitra, all of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Raymond, Belcourt; and sisters, Rose Maness, Clearwater, Minn., Marge Weiss, St. Cloud, Minn., and Jerilyn Beene, Roswell, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Philip and Emil; a sister, Delores; and infant siblings.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt.
Visitation: After 6: 30 p.m. today, with an 8 p.m. vigil service, and one hour before services all in the church.
Burial: St. Benedict's Cemetery, Belcourt (Niewoehner, Rolla, N.D.).
Patrick Mulligan
Patrick G. Mulligan, 44, 4802 70th Ave. N., Grand Forks, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, from injuries in a farm accident.
Patrick Gerard Mulligan was born Sept. 4, 1956, the son of Sylvester and Rita Ann (Foley) Mulligan, in Grand Forks, where he graduated from high school in 1974. He attended North Dakota State University graduating with a bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics in 1991. He farmed in Falconer and Rye Townships, Grand Forks County. He worked for Ardell Korynta Farms, Grand Forks.
He is survived by his parents, Grand Forks; sisters, Mary (Foy) Cox, Grand Forks, Veronica (Larry) Curfman, Morris, Minn., and Kathy Mulligan-Mohs, Paynesville, Minn.; and a brother, James (Jeanne), Crookston.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Mary Ann Foley and James and Clara Mulligan.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service and a 4: 30 p.m. rosary, Gregory J. Norman, S. Washington St.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks.
