Elmer Casmey
Elmer D. Casmey, 84, East Grand Forks, formerly of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Elmer D. Casmey was born Sept. 7, 1916, the son of Charles and Sarah (Ruth) Casmey, in Crookston. He grew up and graduated from high school in East Grand Forks. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married
Myrtle Brockman on March 10, 1946, in Chicago. They lived in East Grand Forks and moved to Sioux Falls in 1972. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 42 years. He retired in 1979.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Donald (Beverly), East Grand Forks; a daughter, Lynnette (Craig) Hjalmervik, Rochester, Minn.; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by brothers Herman and Tony; and a sister, Catherine.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Mendenhall Presbyterian Church, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks.
Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks.
Military rites: East Grand Forks VFW Post No. 3817 and American Legion Post No. 157.
William Schneider
William "Bill" Schneider, 87, 117 Columbia Court, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, in Valley Eldercare Center.
William John Schneider was born May 18, 1913, the son of Nicholas and Catherine (Meyer) Schneider, in Wales, N.D., where he attended school. He attended Hanson Auto Mechanics Trade School, Fargo. He married
Bertha Michels on Oct. 24, 1939, in Calio, N.D. He lived and farmed in Wales. He retired in 1977 and moved to Grand Forks.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Grace (Jerry) Bergman, Grand Forks, and Brenda (Duane) Kovar, East Grand Forks; sons, Marvin (Agnes), Fargo, and Harvey (Sue), Wales; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lavina Hoffarth, Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Stremick; and brothers, Frank, Edward and Peter.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, with a 2: 30 p.m. rosary and a 5 p.m. prayer service, Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, S. Washington St., Grand Forks.

Dorothy Pretzer
CARRINGTON, N.D. -- Dorothy Pretzer, 65, Carrington, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, in Carrington Health Center.
Dorothy Mae Duursma was born April 26, 1935, the daughter of Ralph and Nellie (Wobbema) Duursma, in Carrington, where she attended school. She worked as a waitress at several places in Carrington. She married
Dale Pretzer on Jan. 1, 1961, in Minot. She worked at Golden Acres Manor and for Ladies Nite at the Golf Club, both in Carrington. She cooked at Carrington High School for 20 years. She also worked at the Carrington Dairy Queen.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Greg (Diane), Madison, Ala., Rick (Becky), Carrington, Scott, Pierre, S.D., David (Darla) and Dale "Buddy" Jr. (Greta), both of Bakersfield, Calif., and the Rev. Mike (Alecia), Benedict, N.D.; daughters, Vickie (Dennis) Quast, Ellendale, N.D., Joanne (Dan) Helfrich, Carrington, and Roxanne Pretzer, El Paso, Texas; 11 grandchildren; her mother, Carrington; and brothers, Ralph Jr. (Irene), Carrington, Henry, Fargo, and Tom (Viv), Bismarck.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Evans, Carrington.

Emily Steinke
GARDAR, N.D. -- Emily C. Steinke, 68, San Juan Capistrano, Calif., formerly of Gardar, died Sept. 16, 2000, in Mission Hospital, San Juan Capistrano.
Emily Gudbjorg Sigurdson was born Oct. 6, 1931, the daughter of Emil and Sigrun (Johnson) Sigurdson, in Gardar, where she graduated from high school. She attended St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., and Moorhead State Teachers College. She taught school in Minnesota and California. She studied piano and voice in Winnipeg and Minneapolis. She married
Dean Steinke on June 24, 1960, in Redondo Beach, Calif.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Tonia (Nick) Leonardos, Pacifica, Calif., and Kari (Brian) Beavers, Hurst, Texas; sons, Kevin (Kelly), Grass Valley, Calif., and Calvin (Elizabeth), Newport Beach, Calif.; seven grandchildren; a sister, Lois Springan, Hoople, N.D.; and brothers, John, St. Louis Park, Minn., and Cecil and Paul, Edinburg, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Stephan and Lloyd.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Gardar Pioneer Church.
Burial: Gardar Pioneer Church Cemetery.
Delores Saltee
BEMIDJI -- Delores "Dee" Saltee, 75, Bemidji, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at home.
Delores Fladland was born Jan. 5, 1925, the daughter of E.A. and Elsie Fladland, in Grand Forks, where she attended school. She married
John Saltee in June 1949, in Grand Forks. They lived in Minnesota until moving to California in 1952. They returned to Minnesota in 1977.
She is survived by her husband; children, John (Cathy), Camarillo, Calif., Robin, Fosston, Minn., Steve, Fort Collins, Colo., and Beth (Greg) Kleeb, Bemidji; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce (Vern) Fargo, Brainerd, Minn.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Norman and Ray; and a sister, Betty Fleur.
Memorial services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji. Memorials are suggested to North Country Home Care and Hospice, Bemidji.
Betty Malone
Elizabeth "Betty" Malone, 85, Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks, formerly of Wadena, Minn., died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
She is survived by four sons; three daughters, including Ellen Tetrault, Grand Forks; 32 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother and two sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and four sisters.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Ann's Catholic Church, Wadena.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Johnson Memorial Home, Wadena.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Wadena.
Laverne Armstrong
CAVALIER, N.D. -- Laverne "Louie" Armstrong, 62, Cavalier, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2000, in Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier.
Laverne Lewis Armstrong was born Nov. 19, 1937, the son of Lewis and Vercy (Ruby) Armstrong, in Grafton, N.D. He attended Park River (N.D.) Agriculture School. He married
Katherine Doyle on Dec. 12, 1962, in Leroy, N.D. In 1968, they moved to Renton, Wash., where he worked as a machinist for the Burlington Northern Railroad. In 1996, he retired and they moved back to Cavalier.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Steve, Cavalier; daughters, Brenda Armstrong Christoffer, Cavalier, and Tina Armstrong, Renton, Wash.; three grandchildren; brothers, Al (Doris), Renton, James (Dorothy), Milwaukee, and Robert (Lou), Anchorage, Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jack.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Cavalier Baptist Church.
Visitation: One hour before services.
Burial: Glasston (N.D.) Cemetery
