Melvin Malafa
Melvin F. Malafa, 84, West Fargo, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Melvin F. Malafa was born Sept. 3, 1916, the son of Frank and Mary (Bazal) Malafa, in Pisek, N.D. He attended school in Lankin, N.D. He married
Margarette Beneda on July 12, 1954, in Park River, N.D. He attended Mayville (N.D.) State College and UND and taught science in Oklee, Minn., and Grafton, N.D. He retired in 1978.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Stu (Teresa), Rockford, Mich., and Curt (Lori), West Fargo; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Vern (Turene), East Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin; three brothers; and a sister.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Hanson-Runsvold Chapel, Fargo.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral chapel.
Burial: ZCBJ Cemetery, Lankin.
Seymour Iverson
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Seymour Iverson, 79, Thief River Falls, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at home.
Seymour A. Iverson was born Jan. 6, 1921, the son of Torval and Selma Iverson, in Thief River Falls. He lived and farmed on the family homestead his entire life.
He is survived by a brother, Clifford (Mary), Sunburst, Mont.; and sisters, Sylvia (Grant) Gregerson, Spokane, Wash., and Lorraine (Gerry) Stone, Anaheim, Calif.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Earlene Dietz and Joyce Blakely.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and one hour before services all in the funeral home.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Urban Carlson
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Urban Carlson, 76, Park River, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, in St. Ansgar's Health Center, Park River.
Urban Carlson was born May 31, 1924, the son of Ben and Johanna (Thompson) Carlson, in Dahlen, N.D., where he attended school. He farmed on the family farm. He married
Edna Olson on March 10, 1944, in Crookston. They moved to Park River in 1959. He worked for farmers in the Hoople and St. Thomas areas. In 1975 they moved to Pisek, where he owned and operated Urban Carlson Excavating from 1972 to 1982 when he retired. The couple returned to Park River in November 1992. Edna Carlson died in 1993.
He is survived by daughters Joyce Goodoien, Grafton, Sharon (Doug) Waldorf, Sauk Rapids, Minn., Bonnie (Dennis) Risinger, Minot, N.D., and Echo (Dwight) Kuntz, Glen Ullin, N.D.; sons, Cledith (Darlene), Park River, Wesley (Nancy), Grand Forks, and Michael, Superior, Wis.; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Delores Wermerskirchen, Minneapolis and Joanne (Jim) Zander, Maple Lake, Minn.; and brothers, Leslie (Judy), Wadena, Minn., Ron, Michigan, N.D., and Dennis (Marlys), Fordville, N.D.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Dorman, Sheldon, Carroll; a grandson; and a step-grandson.
Services: 2: 30 p.m. Saturday, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Park River.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, Tollefson Funeral Home, Park River, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River.
M. Bjorgo Johnson
CROOKSTON -- Marie L. Bjorgo Johnson, 56, Crookston, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at home.
Marie was born Feb. 15, 1944, in Brookings, S.D. She moved to Worthington, Minn. In 1954, she moved with her family to Crookston, where she attended school. She married
Henry Bjorgo on July 21, 1967, in Crookston. She worked for several businesses. Henry Bjorgo died Oct. 27, 1981. She married
Ludvig Johnson on Oct. 14, 1983, in Crookston. She worked for the Crookston Daily Times and Valley Shopper.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Scott (Lona Baier) Bjorgo, Kulm, N.D.; stepdaughters, Debbie (Stuart) Magsam, Crookston, and Janis (Lloyal) Burnside, Hawley, Minn.; stepsons, DuWayne Glende, St. Thomas, N.D. and Gerald Glende, Crookston; a granddaughter; eight stepgrandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; her parents, Dorothy (Milton) Gilbertson; brothers, James (Melanie), Crookston, David, Grand Forks, Daryl (Joyce), Eldred, Minn., and Milo, Williams, Minn.; sisters, Phyllis (Johnnie) Hall, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Marlene (Dale) Hanson, Hallock, Minn.;
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karla Bjorgo; her father, Melvin Jacobson; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Derr.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Crookston.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Crookston.
Lillian Parker
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Lillian C. Parker, 87, New Rockford, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at home.
Lillian Cora Piltingsrud was born Feb. 14, 1913, the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Gronvold) Piltingsrud, in Leeds, N.D., where she graduated from high school in 1931. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. She completed her nursing degree at the University of Minnesota. She worked at the University Hospital as a nursing supervisor. She later returned to North Dakota. She married
Chester Parker on Aug. 20, 1939, in Leeds. They lived in Petersburg, N.D., and then McVille, N.D., where she helped start the Community Hospital. In 1959, they moved to New Rockford, where she worked at the City Hospital from 1959 to 1975.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Kay (Del) Stein, Eden Prairie, Minn., Janice (Robert) Manly, New Rockford, and Judy (Dr. Robert) Johnson, Grand Forks; seven grandchildren; sisters, Marion Erickson, Long Prairie, Minn., Alice Bullard, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Helen Temple, Phoenix; and brothers, Dr. Harold (Sue), Park River, N.D., and Clarence (Katherine), Canon City, Colo.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma "Sally" Johnson.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, First Lutheran Church, New Rockford.
Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.
Robert Thomsen
Robert "Bob" Thomsen, 22, Grand Forks, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in Rapid City, S.D.
Robert Oliver Thomsen was born May 6, 1978, the son of Paul and Julie (Gile) Thomsen, in Neenah, Wis. He graduated from high school in Wild Rose, Wis., in 1996. He graduated from UND in 1999. He was a flight instructor at UND.
He is survived by his parents, Wild Rose; sisters, Paula Thomsen, West Point, N.Y., and Kirsten (Michael) Miller, Shawano, Wis.; and brothers, Thor (Kristen), Waupaco, Wis., Bjorn (Lisa), Kokomo, Ind., and Thomas (Heidi) Thimm, Mellen, Wis.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Heidi Salsieder.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Holly Funeral Home, Waupaca.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church
Burial: Caersalem Cemetery.
