George Pieterick
WOLFORD, N.D. -- George Pieterick, 92, Wolford, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in Heart of America Medical Center, Rugby, N.D., where he had lived since 1998.
George Showers Pieterick was born June 22, 1908, the son of Peter Pieterick and Floy Showers, in Wolford, where he attended school. He completed an auto mechanic training course at the Hanson Auto School, Fargo. He worked at Wolford Garage until the fall of 1936, when he moved to Pontiac, Mich., where he worked at the General Motors factory. He married
Eudora "Dode" Urquhart on Jan. 2, 1937, in Pontiac. They returned to Wolford, where he farmed in Union Township, Pierce County, N.D., until retiring in 1974. In 1978, they moved to Wolford, and in 1996, they moved to Rugby.
He is survived by his wife; children, Larry (Eileen), Wolford, David (Pat), Shedd, Ore., Michael (Elayne), Greenbush, Minn., Paulette (Bill) McCann, Arroyo Grande, Calif., Peggy (Edward) Maczko, Fountain, Colo., Gordon (LaNeta), York, N.D., Thomas (Brenda), Bismarck, Harry (Mary), New Rockford, N.D., and Richard (Denise), Rugby; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel Powell, Spokane, Wash.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pattricia Pieterick; brothers, Lloyd, Leslie, Stanley and Beryl; and sisters, Helen Nelson, Jessie Stoll and Leona.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Wolford Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Niewoehner Funeral Home, Rugby, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Wolford Cemetery.
Dorothy Bjerke
ADAMS, N.D. -- Dorothy I. Bjerke, 78, Adams, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in Good Samaritan Center, Park River, N.D., where she had lived since Dec. 31, 1998.
Dorothy I. Elton was born July 26, 1922, the daughter of Henry and Anne (Hilde) Elton, in Adams, where she graduated from high school in 1941. She worked at Roy's Market in Adams. She married
Knute Bjerke on July 2, 1945, in Adams. They farmed in the Adams area until 1980, when they retired and moved into Adams. Knute Bjerke died April 25, 1991.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant son.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Mountain Lutheran Church, Adams.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Tollefson Funeral Home, Edinburg, N.D., and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: West Adams Lutheran Cemetery.
Raymond Spicer
Raymond A. Spicer, 40, 2500 14th Ave. S., died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Raymond Alan Spicer was born Sept. 13, 1959, the son of Hartland and Patricia (Saunders) Spicer, in Grand Forks. He grew up and attended school in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. He attended Area Vocational Technical Institute, East Grand Forks. He worked at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center, in Lakota, N.D., where he became a certified nursing assistant. He received his medication assistant certificate. He was attending UND in the social work program.
He is survived by his father, Larimore; sisters, Jewel (Alan) Zakopyko, Grand Forks, and Barbara (Todd) Leeson, Cavalier, N.D.; and his fiancee, Tami Staven, Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and a brother, Charles.
Services: 11 a.m., Wednesday, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, Norman Funeral Home, Columbia Road, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore.
Michael Johnson
WALHALLA, N.D. -- Michael "Jack" Johnson, 80, Walhalla, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, in the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital, Langdon, N.D.
Michael Johnson was born Aug. 8, 1920, the son of John and Emily (Ladoucer) Johnson, in Leyden, N.D. He grew up and attended school in Freemont Township, Cavalier County, N.D. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. He worked for Soeby Rutherford and RMD farms in the Walhalla area. He married
Rose Vondal on April 17, 1943, in Walhalla. She died Jan. 4, 1998.
He is survived by his children, Beverly (Sid) Goulet, Mandan, N.D., Carol (Joe) Metzger, Myrna (Leon) Meidinger and Linda (Robert) Olgeirson, all of Bismarck, and Betty (Lloyd) Northagen, Michael (Kim), Dale (Holly) and Wendy (Don) Gibney, all of Walhalla; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Davis and Casey, both of Walhalla.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Peter, Manvel, Victor and Henry.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla.
Visitation: 6: 30 to 7: 30 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. rosary service, and one hour before services all in the church.
Burial: St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery
(Nelson, Walhalla).
Ernest Hall
BEMIDJI -- Ernest L. Hall, 93, Bemidji, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, in Havenwood Care Center, Bemidji.
Ernest LeRoy Hall was born Dec. 27, 1906, in Spaulding, Minn. He worked for C.L. Nelson Construction operating a paving machine, and he logged during the winter. He married
Elsie Watts on Sept. 22, 1934, at LaSalle Lake, in Hubbard County, Minn. He opened a craft shop and later founded Hall's Tent and Trailer Camp, which is now the Bemidji KOA Campground. He retired in 1972, and they moved to Leonard, Minn. Elsie Hall died in 1986. He returned to Bemidji in 1994.
He is survived by daughters, Marlys (Robert) Sampson, Wilton, Minn., and Mary Jane (Donald) Otten, Hillman, Minn.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a sister, Leona (Waldo) Swanson, Tahlequah, Okla.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Amundson; a great-grandson; brothers, Walter, Delbert, Arnold and Marvin; and sisters, Ella, Florence and Pearl.
Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Evangelical Covenant Church, Bemidji.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Trinity Free Lutheran at Pony Lake Cemetery, Bemidji (Olson-Schwartz, Bemidji).
James Gjerswold
James E. Gjerswold, 73, 1905 20th Ave. S., died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, in Altru Hospital.
James Edward Gjerswold was born Dec. 6, 1926, the son of George and Margaret (Cameron) Gjerswold, in Minto, N.D. He grew up and attended school in Grafton, N.D. He joined the U.S. Navy on Feb. 11, 1944, and served during World War II. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific medal (with four stars), American Area Medal, Victory Medal World War II, and Philippine Liberation Medal (with two stars). He was discharged on Oct. 16, 1947 and returned to Grafton. He married
Lillian Seboe on April 25, 1949, in Crookston. They lived in Grafton, where he worked as a truck driver. In 1957 they moved to Grand Forks, where he drove for Hvidsten Transfer later Northland Trucking. In 1974 they moved to Minneapolis and he drove for GMW Inc., until retiring in 1983. They returned to Grand Forks in 1984. Lillian Gjerswold died April 18, 1987.
He is survived by sons, Robert, Topeka, Kan., and Wayne (Brenda), Bermuda; daughters, Becky (Russell) Holte, West Fargo, N.D., Debbie (Art) Passa and Merry Gjerswold, both of Grand Forks, and Lynette Felegy, Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; brothers, Harvey (Mary), Detroit Lakes, Minn., Sam (Avanelle), Lakewood, Calif., and Walter (Phyllis), Dallas, Ore.; and sisters, Mary (Jim) Harris, Cerritos, Calif., Merle (Wally) Gronseth, St. Cloud, Minn., Betty Foor, Lakewood, and Dorothy Donnel, Yorba Linda, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a grandson; brothers, George Jr. and Cyril; and a sister, Donna Salinger.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, with a 5 p.m. prayer service, Norman Funeral Home, Columbia Road, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.
