C. A. "Scotty" Cranna
DEVILS LAKE -- C. A. "Scotty" Cranna, 92, Devils Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Clifford Allan Cranna was born July 26, 1908, the son of Thomas and Hannah (Robb) Cranna, in Maud, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. In 1909, he moved with his family to Lakota, N.D., where he grew up. He graduated from UND with a degree in business in 1930. He worked at Livdahl-Cranna Motors in Bismarck. He married
Anna Paulson in 1936 in Porter, Minn. They lived in Bismarck until 1940, when they moved to Devils Lake, where he became partner in Ramsey Motors. After selling the business in the early 1960s, he became a real estate appraiser. In 1991, they moved to Grand Forks. Anna Cranna died July 13, 1996. He returned to Devils Lake.
He is survived by a son, Clifford "Kip", San Francisco; daughter-in-law, Barbara Cranna Bisset, Blowing Rock, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas; sisters, Hannah "Nan" Farrington and Catherine McDonald Douglas; and a brother, Thomas McDonald Cranna.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Olaf Lutheran Church Choir or Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Leona Graber
ALSEN, N.D. -- Leona Graber, 94, Marion, S.D., formerly of Alsen, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, in Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion.
Leona Bartel was born June 26, 1906, in Alsen. She was a teacher in Alsen and Marion. She married
Emil Graber on June 9, 1957. He died in 1980.
She is survived by a stepson, Leland Graber, Pella, Iowa; three stepgrandchildren; and brothers, John, Santa Maria, Calif., and Ralph, Golden Valley, Minn.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Walter Funeral Home, Marion.
Visitation: One hour before services.
Burial: Salem Zion Mennonite Cemetery, Freeman, S.D.
Howard Beckstrand
BEMIDJI -- Howard Beckstrand, 89, Bemidji, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Havenwood Care Center, Bemidji.
Howard L. Beckstrand was born March 3, 1911, the son of John and Junia (Nyleen) Beckstrand, in Bagley, Minn. He moved with his family to Saskatchewan, where he attended school. They moved to Bemidji, where he attended school. He worked at the box factory and then took up meat cutting. He lived in Bemidji, where he worked as a meat cutter for several grocery stores and butcher shops until retiring in 1973. He married
Linnea Stenlund on Jan. 1, 1937, in Bemidji.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Larry (Laura Lee), Kelso, Wash., John, Mark and Michael, all of Bemidji, and Joel, Mullins, S.C.; daughters, Patricia Sandeen, Bagley, Kay (Douglas) Dent, Laporte, Minn., Gail (Larry) Lauderbaugh and Charity Weston, both of Bemidji, Carole Ames, Joplin, Mo., Nancy (Quince) Anderson, Longview, Wash., Diane (Robert) Adams, Placerville, Calif., and Dawn (Douglas) Thompson, Shevlin, Minn.; 29 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Geneva (Oscar) Christianson and Grace (Lester) Stenlund, both of Bemidji; and a brother, Caleb, Murrietta, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law; two grandchildren; and a brother.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Bemidji.
Ethel McKay
HOPE, N.D. -- Ethel McKay, 90, Hope, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in Sheyenne Valley Health Care Center, Valley City, N.D., where she had lived since May 1998.
Ethel Johnson was born May 13, 1910, the daughter of Hans and Hilda Johnson, in Minneapolis. She moved with her family to Pillsbury, N.D., where she graduated from high school. She married
Neil McKay on Jan. 5, 1929, in Pillsbury. They lived in Pillsbury until moving to Absaraka, N.D. In 1941, they returned to Pillsbury. They moved to Vancouver, Wash., where they worked in the shipyards. In 1946, they moved back to Pillsbury, where they farmed until retiring. Neil McKay died in 1980. She moved to Hope.
She is survived by daughters, Jackie (Reed) Washburn, Hope, and Connie (Bob) Ihry, Fargo; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty (Harland) Walters, Hastings, Minn.
She was preceded in death by daughters, Donna and Judy; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Doris; and a brother, Don.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Pillsbury Presbyterian Church.
Visitation: 6 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in the church.
Burial: Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City.
Debra Cochran
Debra S. Cochran, 37, Grand Forks, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Debra Sue Lang was born July 11, 1963, the daughter of Richard and Anna (Keller) Lang, in McVille, N.D. She grew up in Doyon, N.D. She graduated from high school in Lakota, N.D., in 1981. She served in the U.S. Army from 1980 to 1984 working as a nurse. She joined the Army Reserve and was discharged in 1995. She received her LPN, Associate of Applied Science Degree for practical nursing from Northwest Technical College. She married
Murphy Cochran on Aug. 17, 1990, in Grand Forks, where they lived. She worked for Altru Health Care System, Grand Forks.
She is survived by a daughter, Monique Fikes, Grand Forks; a son, Murphy Cochran, Grand Forks; her parents, Devils Lake; brothers, James (Tabitha) and Jason, both of Devils Lake; and a grandmother, Alvina Fowler, Devils Lake.
Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 3 to 9 p.m. today, 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.

Patricia Norberg
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Patricia Norberg, 58, Thief River Falls, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Patricia Ann Kroening was born Feb. 22, 1942, the daughter of Alfred and Virgie (Hilliard) Kroening, in Minneapolis. She grew up and graduated from high school in Fosston. She also graduated from nurse's training in Crookston. She worked at the hospital in Crookston. She married
Daryl Norberg on Oct. 28, 1961, in Fosston. In 1962, they moved to Minneapolis, where she worked for Fairview and General hospitals. In 1972, they moved to Thief River Falls. They took over operation of the Crestview Boarding Home, which they ran until the early 1990s. She also operated Future Shape Toning and Tanning.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Lynne Norberg, Grand Forks, and Julie Olson, Thief River Falls; two grandchildren; her mother, Fosston; a brother, Douglas (Joyce), Andover, Minn.; and sisters, Diane Dombrowski, Twin Cities, Minn., and Juanita (Robert) Balstad, Fosston.
She was preceded in death by her father; a sister, Dolores Bakken; and a brother, Roger.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, First Baptist Church.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home Chapel, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.
Myer Quam
Myer L. Quam, 82, Pollock Pines, Calif., died Oct. 31, 2000.
Myer L. Quam was born Feb. 18, 1918, the son of Melvin and Marie (Morken) Quam, in Pekin, N.D. He married
Evelyn Morlan on Nov. 16, 1938, in Dunseith, N.D. She died Sept. 19, 1998. He worked for Eldorado Canal, Kyburz, Calif., as a ditch attender from 1966 until retiring in 1980.
He is survived by children, Karen Ray, Vacaville, Calif., and Linda (Bob) Myer, Pollock Pines; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Crystal Kinsley, McVille, N.D.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Sidney (Frances); and sisters, Myrtle (Arnold) Molmen, Luine and Crystal.
