Margaret Thompson
WALHALLA, N.D. -- Margaret Thompson, 76, Walhalla, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla.
Margaret Thompson was born Oct. 4, 1924, the daughter of William and Annie (Black) Lyle, in Bowesmont, N.D., where she graduated from high school. She attended Mayville State Teachers College. She taught for a brief period of time. She married
Harvey Thompson on Aug. 4, 1943, in Hallock, Minn. They lived and farmed near Leyden, N.D. Harvey Thompson died Nov. 23, 1995. She worked at the Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla, and Motor Coach Industries, Pembina.
She is survived by her children, Rebecca Domres, Williston, Harvey (Kathy) Jr., Prescott, Ariz., Margaret (Galen) Howell, Leroy, N.D., Barbara (William) Magnusson, West Fargo, N.D., Chris (Debbie), Walhalla, Mike (Cindy), Cavalier, N.D., Eva Anderson, Yuma, Ariz., and Kathleen (Michael) Austfjord, Spearfish, S.D.; 22 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Ruby Parker, Muriel Burns, Lenora Streed and Bernice McGinn; and a brother, Richard.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, United Lutheran Church, Cavalier.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Hallson Cemetery, Cavalier.
Geneva Ness
LARIMORE, N.D. -- Geneva G. Ness, 83, Larimore, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at home.
Geneva G. Heggestad was born June 8, 1917, the daughter of Andrew and Eldora (Steenerson) Heggestad, in Kempton, N.D. She graduated from high school in Northwood, N.D. She married
Peder Ness on Sept. 26, 1940, in Crookston. They farmed in Moraine Township, Grand Forks County. They retired and moved to Larimore in 1976. Peder Ness died Aug. 14, 1979.
She is survived by daughters, Estelle (Marlen) Rustebakke, Larimore, and Donna (Thomas) Runyan, Minot; four grandchildren; a sister, Alaila Upton, Moorhead; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Ness, Erskine, Minn.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Julian and Alvin.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, Bethel Lutheran Church, Larimore.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Bethel Church Cemetery.
Herman Brolsma
CROOKSTON -- Herman Brolsma, 79, Crookston, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Herman E. Brolsma was born March 16, 1921, the son of George and Clara (DeYoung) Brolsma, in Eldred, Minn. He moved with his family to Beltrami, Minn., where he attended school. He worked on area farms. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 24, 1945 to Jan. 2, 1947, during World War II. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Army of Occupation Medal, and Victory Medal. He returned to Crookston. He married
Lillian Brandwick on April 29, 1947, in Bemidji. They lived in the Crookston area. He worked for area farmers. In 1966 they moved into Crookston, where he worked for Crookston Public School as a boiler operator. He retired in 1981.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Claire (Chuck) Lyche, Fargo, Sharon (Bob) Edmunds, Farmington, Minn., and Pam (John) Schulz, Crookston; seven grandchildren; brothers, Allen (Leah), Crookston, and John (Margaret), Bloomington, Minn.; sisters, Charlene Terpstra, Crookston, Agnes (Sheldon) Johnstone, Grand Rapids, Minn., and Sady Newell, Fertile, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Jessie Brolsma, Crookston.
He was preceded in death by brother, George.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Crookston.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Oakdale Cemetery.
Military rites: Crookston Veterans Council.
Jerald Anderson
CROOKSTON -- Jerald B. Anderson, 56, Westminster, Md., formerly of Crookston, died of acute leukemia Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Jerald B. Anderson was born Nov. 6, 1943, the son of Berger and Jeanette Anderson, in Vancouver, Wash. He graduated from high school in Crookston and from the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He worked as a social worker at Springfield State Hospital in Maryland.
He is survived by his father, of Grand Forks; and brothers, Dr. Wayne (Sharon), Rockville, Md., and Berger Jr. (Shirley), Frederick, Md.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Memorial services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, University Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks (Amundson, Grand Forks).
William Preuss
ESMOND, N.D. -- William R. "Billy" Preuss, 90, Esmond, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in Heart of America Medical Center, Rugby, N.D.
William R. Preuss was born Oct. 29, 1909, the son of William and Mary (Kehrer) Preuss, in Esmond, where he attended school. He also attended North Dakota State University. He lived and farmed near Esmond. He also built churches and grain elevators and drove bus for the Maddock (N.D.) Public School. He married
Katherine Akerberg on July 9, 1937, in Parshall, N.D.
He is survived by his wife; sons, William (Betty), Livingston, Calif., Gerald (Sharon), Grand Forks, Loren (Gloria), Silverdale, Wash., and Ronald (Cheri), Wichita, Kan.; daughters, Carol (Merwin) Thompson, Rochester, Minn., and Constance (James) Dunkelberger, University Place, Wash.; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kermit; a grandson; brothers, John, Robert, Charles and Walter; and sisters, Agnes Anderson, LaVina Jyrkas, Dorothy Preuss and Rose.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Bethany Evangelical Free Church, Esmond.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Nelson Funeral Home, Esmond.
Burial: Rosehill Cemetery, Esmond.
Rochus Leier
ESMOND, N.D. -- Rochus A. Leier, 92, Esmond, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Manor Care Nursing Home, Minot.
Rochus August Leier was born Feb. 29, 1908, the son of Jacob and Petronella (Miller) Leier, in Rich Valley Township, Benson County, N.D., where he attended school. He married
Helen Becker on Oct. 18, 1928, in Selz, N.D. They lived on a farm near Esmond. They moved into Esmond in December 1974. He farmed for several years. He worked for the ASCS, for several crop-hail insurance companies, worked as an agent and sold insurance. He worked for the World Community Insurance Service. Helen Leier died Sept. 30, 2000.
He is survived by daughters, Patty (Nick) Erck and Dorothy (Reuben) Brown, both of Esmond, Eunice (Louis) Weber, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Karen (Robert) Sage, Oneida, S.D., and Nancy (Terry) Roble, Denver; sons, James (LaVerne), Devils Lake, Rochus (Ardis), Plainsview, Minn., Don and Dennis (Sylvia), both of Esmond, Curtis (Bev), Erskine, Minn., and Terry, Keystone, S.D.; 43 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Vincent, Devils Lake; and a sister-in-law, Lena Leier, Esmond.
He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Karen Leier; two grandsons; brothers, Ned, Steve, George, Jake and John; and sisters, Theresia Marthe, Barbara Fix and Agnes Schatz.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Esmond.
Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nelson Funeral Home, Esmond, and after 6 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. rosary, in the church.
Burial: Church Cemetery.
