Joyce Jenssen
LEEDS, N.D. -- Joyce L. Jenssen, 73, Leeds, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at home.
Joyce Lucille Bowersox was born Oct. 20, 1927, the daughter of Dirvin and Freida (Maute) Bowersox, in Union Township, Pierce County, N.D., where she attended school. She married
Harold "Jens" Jenssen on June 22, 1948, in Churchs Ferry, N.D. They farmed near Wolford, N.D., and later lived in York, N.D. She worked as a clerk for the York Post Office, cooked at the York Cafe and was janitor at the York Chapel and York Legion Hall. They moved to Leeds in 1996. Harold Jenssen died June 26, 1998.
She is survived by sons, Dirvin "Pete" and Jodey (Kathy), both of Leeds, and Larry (Judy), Edmond, Okla.; a daughter, Pam (Alan) Schrader, Jamestown; a daughter-in-law, Candy Jenssen, Conrad, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Patricia (Frank) Meyer, Kalama, Wash., Joan Strand, Leeds and Gloria (Simon) Whalen, York; and a brother-in-law, Ted Straabe, Devils Lake.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Jack and Richard; and a sister, Jean Strand.
Services: 2 p.m. today, Leeds Lutheran Church.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Leeds Lutheran Cemetery
(Nelson, Leeds).
Lillian Rud
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Lillian Rud, 78, Fargo, formerly of Park River, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in MeritCare Hospital.
Lillian Gustafson was born July 29, 1922, the daughter of Louis and Clara (Eckerland) Gustafson, in Park River, where she attended school. She married
Jerome Bourbanis on Nov. 20, 1939, in Olga, N.D. They lived and farmed near Walhalla, N.D. They later moved into Walhalla. Jerome Bourbanis died May 30, 1985. In 1987 she moved to Fargo. She married
John Rud on Oct. 28, 1995, in Fargo.
She is survived by her husband; children, Joann (Duane) McDonald, Moorhead, Lloyd (Karen) Bourbanis and Gary (Linda) Bourbanis, both of Walhalla, Lila (Gary) Cook, Karlstad, Minn., Shirley Gudmundson, Mountain, N.D., Gloria (Marvin) Rostvet, Thief River Falls, Ruth (Les) Laidlaw, Fargo, Gerald (Faye) Bourbanis, Kathy (Duane) Hell and Glenn Bourbanis, all of Seattle, and Barbara (Jeff) Dalzell, Blaine, Minn.; 32 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna Ackerland, Fargo; and brothers, Orville (Dorothy), Cavalier, N.D., Norman (Geneva) and Douglas (Janice), both of Fargo, and Donald, in Idaho.
She was preceded in death by a son, Glenn; three brothers; and two sisters.
Services: 1: 30 p.m. Wednesday, Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.

John Schmisek Sr.
John M. Schmisek Sr., 86, 1123 Second Ave. N., died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, in Altru Hospital.
John Michael Schmisek was born April 20, 1914, the son of John and Anna (Winter) Schmisek, in Grand Forks, where he attended school. In 1938, he moved to Portland, Ore., to work in the shipyards. He married
Loretta "Biddy" Lacey on Jan. 18, 1939, in Portland. In 1940, they moved to Grand Forks. He worked as a boilermaker and steamfitter for the Great Northern Railway for 20 years, and then as a welder and steamfitter for Lunseth Plumbing and Heating until retiring in 1979. Loretta "Biddy" Schmisek died June 21, 1986.
He is survived by daughters, Loretta (Bob) Myers, Roanoke, Va., Maureen (Ken) Schultz, Northridge, Calif., Nancy (Clarence) Tupa, Miles City, Mont., and Peggy "Margaret" (Dan) Buckmeier, Bismarck; sons, John "Mike" (Wanda) and Bill (Gail), both of Grand Forks, and Jerry (Daniela), Fountain, Colo.; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen (Guy) Flom, East Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Marie Skaar and Ann Giauque; and brothers, Fred, Joseph and Albert.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Norman Funeral Home, Columbia Road.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Michael's Men's Club or St. Michael's Bridge Builders.
William Thompson
CLIFFORD, N.D. -- William "Bill" Thompson, 76, Clifford, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, in MeritCare Medical Center, Fargo.
William Davis Thompson was born Sept. 11, 1924, the son of Omar and Trina (Woie) Thompson, in Clifford, where he graduated from high school in 1942. He worked for area farmers. He married
Helen Ambroson on Oct. 18, 1945, in Clifford. They lived and farmed in the Clifford and Galesburg area. Helen Thompson died Sept. 5, 1980.
He is survived by a son, Dale (Linda), Clifford; a daughter, Terrie (Duey) Lura, Fargo; four grandchildren; and a sister, Rhoda (Bob) Jones, Spring Valley, Minn.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Adeline Thompson and Eline Lott; and brothers, Franklin and Leon.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Norman Lutheran Church, Clifford.
Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Clifford Cemetery.
Lillian Baker
DEVILS LAKE -- Lillian S. Baker, 96, Devils Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, in Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake, where she had lived since 1995.
Lillian Serena Webster was born June 4, 1904, the daughter of William and Serena (Leet) Webster, in Webster, N.D. She moved with her family to Devils Lake, where she graduated from high school in 1922. She attended beauty school in Minneapolis. She worked for Claire's Beauty Shop, Devils Lake. She married
Wilbur Olson on June 12, 1929, in Devils Lake, where they lived. They later owned and operated American Pool Hall and Soda Shop, Devils Lake. Wilbur Olson died March 1, 1979. She married
Ed Baker on July 25, 1985, in Devils Lake, where they lived. He died Feb. 13, 1990.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Westerbur, Kirkland, Wash.; stepdaughters, Janice (Irving) Thompson and Claire (Gary) Garske, both of Devils Lake; a stepson, John (Jean) Baker, Devils Lake; five grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Hanson; a son, William "Billy"; sisters, Wilma Ackre and Grace Marvell; and brothers, Russell and Earl.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, both in Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.
Donald Tapson
HANNAH, N.D. -- Donald Tapson, 69, Hannah, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Donald R. Tapson was born May 25, 1931, the son of Donald and Gladys (Dew) Tapson, in Langdon, N.D. He attended school in Wales, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He married
Carol Hodgins on Nov. 5, 1959, in Langdon. They lived in Hannah, where he worked as a TV repairman.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Kathie (Dave) Manthei, Grand Forks; a son, Floyd, in Montana; two grandchildren; a brother, Lucerne (Carol), St. Paul; and sisters, Delores Tracy, Mason City, Iowa, and Grace (Arvid) Onsgaard, Doris Hogan and Mary Thoe, all of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, United Methodist Church, Langdon.
Visitation: 2 to 8: 30 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Brooks Funeral Home, Langdon.
Burial: Hannah Cemetery.
