Clayton Walstad
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Clayton G. Walstad, 86, Park River, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Clayton G. Walstad was born Nov. 14, 1914, the son of Gust and Christina (Larson) Walstad, in Grafton, N.D. He attended high school in Walsh County, N.D. He farmed the family farm.
He is survived by sisters, Adeline Burke, Roseville, Minn., Hazel Stautz, Grants Pass, Ore., Lila McCauley, Lauderdale, Minn., Glenna (Harvey) Tallackson, Grafton, and Delores Longtin, Walhalla, N.D.; and brothers, Percy (Leona), Park River, and Wayne (Kay), Fort Worth, Texas.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jane.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Zion Lutheran Church, Hoople, N.D.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Henriksen-Overbye Funeral Home, Park River, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Church Cemetery.
Thomas Malaterre Sr.
BELCOURT, N.D. -- Thomas L. Malaterre Sr., 66, Belcourt, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, in Trinity Medical Center, Minot.
Thomas Lowell Malaterre was born March 3, 1934, the son of Alexander and Margaret (St. Arnold) Malaterre, in Belcourt, where he graduated from high school in 1953. He worked as a heavy equipment operator, an oil field worker and a state surveyor. He married
Alice Gourneau on Dec. 21, 1982, in Belcourt.
He is survived by his wife; children, Myrna Malaterre, Thomas Jr. and Lori Malaterre, all of Belcourt, Peggi Malaterre, Rock Lake, N.D., Gabriel and Michelle Malaterre, both of Billings, Mont., and Michael, Dunseith, N.D.; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Leroy, Lebanon, Ind.; and a sister, Mary Orcult, Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by a grandchildren; his parents; brothers, Fred, Walter, Vernon, John "Andrew", Alfonse "Chubby", and Joseph "Joe"; sisters, Elizabeth Ducept Machaw and Irene Hunt; a brother-in-law, Ira Orcult; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Malaterre.
Services: Were held in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt.
Burial: St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery

Myrtle Gravelle Vik
Myrtle E. Gravelle Vik, 88, Grand Forks, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in Altru Hospital.
Myrtle Elizabeth Finnell was born Sept. 5, 1912, the daughter of William and Caroline (St. George) Finnell, in Grand Forks, where she attended school. She married
Ernest Gravelle in 1929. She worked for Grand Forks Public School System at Central High School. Ernest Gravelle died in 1972. She married
Vernon Vik in 1974. She retired in 1974. Vernon Vik died in the 1990s.
She is survived by sons, Robert (Mary), Colorado Springs, Colo., Duane (Madonna) and Ronald (Donna), both of Grand Forks, and Gary (Marilyn), East Grand Forks; daughters, Betty Bouvette, East Grand Forks, Gail Dannatt, Jacksonville, Fla., and Sharol (Joe) Gladue and Carol (Joe) Herman, both of Warwick, N.D.; 59 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren; a brother; and two sisters.
She was preceded in death by a son, Paul; daughters, Jean and Joann Gravelle; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Norman Funeral Home, Columbia Road.
Visitation: Two hours before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Ronald Norton
Ronald Norton, 53, Fort Pierre, S.D., formerly of Grand Forks, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Ronald William Norton was born April 30, 1947, the son of William and Anne (Epler) Norton, in St. Boniface, Man. He lived in Brunkild, Man., and later moved to Thunder Bay, Ont., where he graduated from high school. He graduated from UND with a bachelor degree in philosophy, history, geography and education. He received his master's degree in education of statistics from UND. He taught 7th and 8th grade at Manvel (N.D.) School. He then worked as a lounge manager and owner in East Grand Forks, Chamberlain, S.D., and Fort Pierre.
He is survived by daughters, Alison (Mike) Geary, East Grand Forks, and Christina Norton, Humbolt, Kan.; a son, William, Fort Pierre; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 10 a.m. today, Scotty Philip Cemetery, Fort Pierre.

Dennis Bina
LAWTON, N.D. -- Dennis J. Bina, 69, Lawton, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, in St. Lukes Hospital, Houston.
Dennis J. Bina was born June 5, 1931, the son of Lawrence and Agnes (Matejcek) Bina, in Sauter Township, Walsh County, N.D. He attended school in Sauter Township and Lankin, N.D. He took over the farm and operated it for 47 years. He married
Barbara Swenson on June 15, 1959, in Adams, N.D. They farmed until retiring in 1993. They had been spending winters in Mission, Texas.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Lane (Vicki), Lawton; a daughter, Lisa (Shane) Diseth, Devils Lake; five grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Nancy), Dallas; and a sister, Mayvis (LeRoy) Troftgruben, Adams, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Lawton Lutheran Church.
Visitation: After 1 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota, N.D., and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: ZCBJ-Kosobud Cemetery.
Lorraine Regan
DEVILS LAKE -- Lorraine E. Regan, 90, Devils Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, in Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Lorraine Eura Gessner was born April 4, 1909, the daughter of Gustaf and Amelia (Stienke) Gessner. She grew up and attended school near Penn, N.D. She graduated from Minot State Teachers College. She taught school for 21 years in Ramsey County, Berwick, Towner, Surrey and Oberon, N.D. She also coached girls high school basketball. She married
Daniel Regan on Sept. 21, 1937, in Starkweather, N.D. They lived in Devils Lake, Mile City, Mont., Los Angeles, Towner, N.D., Minot, and on a farm near Penn. Daniel Regan died Aug. 13, 1991. She moved to Devils Lake in 1997.
She is survived by sons, Fred (Dorise), Penn, and Paul, Minot; two grandsons.
Memorial services: 10 a.m. Friday, Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake.
Visitation: One hour before services in the chapel.
Burial: St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Penn.
Mary Williams
Mary Williams, 72, Wichita, Kan., formerly of Grand Forks, died Oct. 19, 2000.
Mary Lou Ewals was born April 14, 1938, the daughter of Ray and Ellen Ewals, in New Rockford, N.D. She grew up and attended school in Grand Forks. She married
Manly "Willie" Williams on Dec. 12, 1964, in Grand Forks.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Kim Taylor, Houston, and Robin, Kathy and Leah, all of Wichita; sons, George, Tatsak, Maine, and Robert, Wichita; 10 grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Amann, in Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by a daughter; a grandson; and a brother, Richard.
Services: Were held in Wichita.
