Dr. Herman Rutten
DEVILS LAKE, N.D. -- Dr. Herman "Hermie" Rutten, 93, Denver, Colo., formerly of Devils Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, in Brighton Gardens, Denver, where he had lived for the past two years.
Herman Rutten was born Sept. 30, 1907, the son of D.J. and Josephine (Wolfe) Rutten, in Des Lacs, N.D. He graduated from high school in Devils Lake in 1927. He attended UND and later transferred to the University of Minnesota, where he attended dental school. He graduated from dental school in 1934 and opened his dental practice in Devils Lake. He married
Genevieve Murphy in 1935. She died in 1990. He married
Margaret "Peggy" Lindquist in 1991. They lived in Denver.
He is survived by his wife; sons, John (Mary) and Tom (Char), both of Devils Lake; Dick (Jacque), Minot, Don (Debbie), Woodbury, Minn., and Bob (Caryl), Bismarck; daughters, Susan (Terry) Anderson, Arcata, Calif., and Patricia (Gary) Helfenstein, Bismarck; stepchildren, Fred Lindquist, Pueblo, Colo., Karen Pierson, Niwot, Colo., and Nadine Ligeros, Denver; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and sisters, Genevieve Rutten and Mary Miller, both of Devils Lake.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Moore Howard Funeral Home, Denver.
Leo Diedrich
CROOKSTON -- Leo C. Died-¨rich, 86, Crookston, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, in Riverview Hospital, Crookston.
Leo Charles Diedrich was born Jan. 20, 1914, the son of Fred and Maggie (Kurtz) Diedrich, in Brooten, Minn. He grew up and graduated from high school in Warren, Minn., in 1932. He operated the City Cafe, Warren, until the mid 1930s. He married
Eleanor Brantl on May 26, 1942. He worked as an elevator manager in Nanson, N.D., and Averill, Girard, and Euclid, Minn. He married
Sylvia Kliner on Nov. 5, 1970. In 1976, he began hauling mail to Euclid, Angus and Warren.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Clarence (Donna), Grand Forks; stepsons, LeRoy (Joyce) Christensen, Red Lake Falls, Minn., Walter (Joyce) Christensen, Crookston, Everett Christensen, Dilworth, Minn., and Bruce Christensen, Red Wing, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Conrad Christensen; a stepdaughter-in-law, Elaine Christensen; a stepgreat-grandson, brothers, Louis, Frank, and Matt; and sisters, Annie Nicholls, Caroline Poolman, Regina Novacek, and Susie Zammert.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Crookston.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery.
Ingvald Berger
LAWTON, N.D. -- Ingvald Berger, 90, Lawton, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, in Valley Edercare, Grand Forks.
Ingvald Berger was born June 20, 1910, the son of Gastava and Inga (Bratton) Berger, in Fairdale, N.D., where he attended school. He married
Johanna "Pearl" Thronsedt on March 4, 1930. They moved in 1940 to Crystal, N.D., where he owned a garage until 1968. In 1970, they moved to Mountain and later to Park River and Lawton, N.D.
He is survived by a son, Orlin "Pike", Grand Forks; daughters, Eileen Feltman, Heyburn, Idaho, Joy "DeLaine" Koropatnicki, Langdon, N.D., and Carol Almond, Edmore, N.D.; daughter-in-law, Angeline Berger, Grand Forks; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alma Erickson, California.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two grandchildren; brothers, Palmer, Bennie; and Elmer; and a sister, Gena.
Services: 2 p.m., Thursday, Our Redeemers Lutheran Church, Fairdale.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Sylvesta Cemetery

Francis Duchaine
DUNSEITH, N.D. -- Francis Duchaine, 41, Dunseith, died Nov. 2, 2000, in Watford City, N.D.
Francis Michael Duchaine was born Oct. 12, 1959, the son of William and Ruth (Smith) Duchaine, in Belcourt, N.D., where he attended school. He worked as a laborer and painter. He married
Myrna Backman in 1979.
He is survived by sons, Michael Backman, in Tennessee, and Francis Duchaine Jr., Minot; a daughter, Misty Duchaine, Minot; stepdaughters, Marsha Williams and Adrinia Williams Duchaine, both of Minot; five grandchildren; his father, Dunseith; sisters, Barbara (Arden) Enno and Donna Backman, both of Belcourt, Mary Moors, Rolla, N.D., Cynthia (Ed) Bonner, Gadsen, Ala., and Renae Duchaine, Jamestown, N.D.; and brothers, Curtis (Betty), Dunseith, Terry and Donald, both of Minot, Rodney, Belcourt, and Chris, Arthur, N.D.; and a sister-in-law, Sylvia Duchaine, Arthur.
Services: 10 a.m. today, St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Belcourt.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Church cemetery

Marie Driscoll
Marie Driscoll, 85, 1514 20th St. N.W., East Grand Forks, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Marie Cariveau was born Nov. 6, 1915, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Letour-¨neau) Cariveau, in East Grand Forks, where she attended school. She worked for area farmers. She married
Earl Driscoll on May 8, 1945, in East Grand Forks. She worked as a housekeeper for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Good Samaritan Nursing Center and many other businesses and families. Earl Driscoll died Sept. 23, 1976.
She is survived by a daughter, Victoria (James) Haugland, San Diego; sons, Joseph (Debra), Seattle, Douglas, Fargo, and Ronnie, East Grand Forks; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Minnie Jagow, Grand Forks, and Lena Lee, Riverside, Calif.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Driscoll; sisters, Leona, Laura, Florence and Emma; and brothers, Donald and James.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 6 p.m. prayer service and 6: 30 p.m. rosary, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks.
Barbara Rahn
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Barbara Rahn, 49, Thief River Falls, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Barbara Anne Bendel was born Aug. 4, 1951, the daughter of Balsey and Anne (LaRoche) Bendel, in Crookston. She grew up and attended school in Red Lake Falls, Minn. She married
Larry Rahn on Sept. 6, 1969, in Red Lake Falls. They lived in Thief River Falls, where she worked at Northwest Medical Center and Valley Home as a dietary supervisor.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Lisa (Glade) Platts, Bellevue, Idaho; a son, Wayne, Thief River Falls; a granddaughter; her mother, Red Lake Falls; and a brother, Jerry, Fairfield, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
Memorial services: 3 p.m. Thursday, St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls.
Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Red Lake Falls.
Jade Ambuehl
BEMIDJI -- Jade Daniel Ambuehl, 17, Bemidji, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.
Jade Daniel Ambuehl was born Nov. 20, 1982, the son of Robert Green and Tamara Ambuel, in Bagley, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Bemidji.
He is survived by his mother, Tamara McDonald, Bemidji; his father, Robert Green, Bemidji; brothers, Jason Green and Michael Kirby, both of Bemidji; sisters, Carolyn Green and Kimberly McDonald, both of Bemidji, and Melissa Anderson, Fergus Falls, Minn.; and grandparents, Carol Anderson, Larry Stowe, Ruth Stahl, and Warren and Judi Green, all of Bemidji.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Edith Green.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
