Laura Mae Lloyd
Funeral services for Laura Mae Lloyd, 66, Lisbon, were held on Monday, December 3, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson and Reverend David Killeen officiated. Mrs. Lloyd died on Thursday, November 29, 2001 at SCCI Hospital, Fargo.
Laura Mae Huether, daughter of Walter and Marie (Kempel) Huether, was born on September 21, 1935 in Fargo. She attended schools in Elliott and Lisbon, graduating from Lisbon High School.
On May 2, 1954, she married
Donald Lloyd in Elliott. They lived in Gwinner and Lisbon. Laura was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Lloyd, Lisbon; three sons, Randy Lloyd, Lisbon, Clay (Anne) Lloyd, Falcon, Colo., and Brett (Susan) Lloyd, Valley City; one daughter Kristie (Bruce) Urbach, Englevale; one sister, Bernice Poley, Mechanicsville, Va.; and 10 grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Bob Huether, Dick Huether, Henry Henricks, Gerald Gerntholz, Grover Riebe and Rodney Mathias.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hansen and soloist Charlene Rondestvedt.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Leona (Srb) Beem
Funeral services for Leona Beem, 77, Sacramento, Calif., were held on Wednesday, January 16, 2002 in Sacramento. She died on January 13, 2002 in Sacramento.
Leona Zentner, daughter of Floyd and Anna Zentner, was born on August 20, 1924 in Burt, N.D.
In 1968, she married
Virgil Beem.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil Beem; two daughters, Bonnie (Marcellus) Hartze, Bismarck, and Karen (Neil) Silva, Brentwood, Calif.; one son, Ronald Srb, Sacramento, Calif.; one step-daughter, Connie (Ray) Sprickman, Auburn, Wash.; her mother, Anna Zentner, California; four sisters, Viola Green and Katherine Pierott, both of Oregon, Delores Stoll and Mercedes Shepard, both of California; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Zentner, and one brother.
Interment at North Dakota Veterans’ Cemetery, Mandan.
Funeral services for Virgil Glen Beem, 76, Sacramento, Calif., were held on Friday, January 25, 2002 in Sacramento. He died Monday, January 21, 2002 in Sacramento.
Virgil Glen Beem, son of Glen and Marie (Stroh) Beem, was born on March 22, 1925 in Elliott. He attended school in Elliott, graduating from school in 1943.
In 1944, he married
Dorothy Montague. He was a depot agent in Elliott until enlisting in the Navy in 1944, seeing service in Hawaii, Guam and Singapore. After World War II, he was a depot agent at Berlin and Mott, N.D., and in San Francisco, Calif.
In 1968, he married
Leona Srb. She died January 13, 2002.
He is survived by one daughter, Connie (Ray) Sprickman, Auburn, Wash.; two step-daughters, Bonnie (Marcellus) Hartz, Bismarck, and Karen (Neil) Silva, Brentwood, Calif.; one stepson, Ronald Srb, Sacramento, Calif.; four brothers, Ronald Beem, Tucson, Ariz., Willard (Geneva) Beem, Tucson, Ariz., Herbert (Bonnie) Beem, Gwinner, and Harvey (Laura) Beem, Escanaba, Mich.; two sisters, Gwendolyn Koepke, Sparks, Nev., and Germaine (Orville) Rydquist, Wahpeton; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Beem; his parents; and one sister.
Interment at North Dakota Veterans’ Cemetery, Mandan.
Alice M. Hoffman
Funeral services for Alice M. Hoffman, 88, Oakes, were held on Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at United Methodist Church, Oakes. Reverend David Andrews officiated. Mrs. Hoffman died on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 at Innovis Health in Fargo.
Alice May Obenchain, daughter of John and Rosa (Nelson) Obenchain, was born on August 31, 1913 near Verona. She grew up and attended school in Glover, N.D.
On November 20, 1939, she married
Walter Hoffman in Ellendale. They made their home in Oakes for a short time before moving to the Stevens farm, where they lived for 25 years. In 1967, they moved back into Oakes and Alice worked for the Oakes Cafe for many years. Walter died January 7, 1992. Alice continued to live in Oakes. In September 2001, she became a resident of the Oakes Good Samaritan Center. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Oakes.
She is survived by four sons, Leonard (Jewel) Payton, Harlen, Iowa, Clyde (Lorraine) Hoffman, Boring, Ore., George (Cindy) Hoffman, Moscow, Idaho, and Robert (Gwen) Hoffman, Oakes; four daughters, Martha (Kenny) Coleman, Gwinner, Esther (Albert) Ketterling, Jamestown, MaryAnn (Gerald) Martin, Wildomar, Calif., and June Koenig, Stockton, Calif.; two brothers, Henry (Adele) Obenchain, Camarillo, Calif., and Lloyd Obenchain, Devils Lake; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Hoffman; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Johnnie Coleman, Kevin Coleman, Chad Hoffman, Mark Ketterling, Neil Hoffman, Rob Hoffman and Jerry Coleman.
Music was provided by organist Carol Wolff, pianist Barb Burlie and soloist Keri Schall.

Nanna Thoreson Aase
Funeral services for Nanna Aase, 93, Detroit Lakes, were held on Monday, January 28, 2002 at Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel, Detroit Lakes. Vicki Marthaler, Lay Chaplain, officiated. Mrs. Aase died on Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes.
Nanna Selfors, daughter of Nels and Bergetta (Johanson) Selfors, was born on August 30, 1908 in Minot. She grew up and attended school in Minot, graduating from Minot High School. She then attended Minot State University and later received her B.S. Degree from Valley City State University.
On September 3, 1927, she married
Hjalmar J. Thoreson in Coulee, N.D. She taught school for 28 years in North Dakota and Oregon. Following her husband, Hjalmar’s death in 1963, she continued to teach in Oregon until her retirement in 1970.
In 1970, she married
E.R. Hilde and they lived in San Diego, Calif., until his death in 1977. She then moved to Bellingham, Wash.
In 1980, she married
George Aase in Bellingham. After his death in 1986, she moved to Minnesota. She lived in Minnetonka, Minn., and Pelican Rapids. She has been a resident at Emmanuel Nursing Home since 1994. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids.
She is survived by two sons, Hubert (Maureen) Thoreson and Laverne (Beverly) Thoreson, all of Pelican Rapids; one grandson; one sister, Alice Smith, Chiliwach, B.C., Canada; one sister-in-law, Doris Thoreson, Fargo; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hjalmar Thoreson on May 28, 1962; her second husband, Elmer R. Hilde in 1977; her third husband, George L. Aase on November 26, 1986; her parents, Nels and Bergetta Selfors; two brothers, Nels, Jr. Selfors and William Selfors.; five sisters, Mary Selfors, Pauline Hanson, Sena Aasen; Marie Selfors and Oline Von Berge.
Music was provided by pianist Vicki Marthaler and soloist Kim Schnitzer.
Interment at Pelican Valley Cemetery, Pelican Rapids.

Florence Kohn
Funeral services for Florence Kohn, 95, Valley City, were held on Saturday, January 26, 2002 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Valley City. Reverend Gerard Braun officiated. Mrs. Kohn died on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Florence Wallrich, daughter of Edward and Ida (Richter) Wallrich, was born on October 5, 1906 near Edgeley. She moved with her family to LaMoure in 1921 and later graduated from LaMoure High School. She was employed as a dental assistant and bookkeeper for seven years.
In 1935, she married
Floyd Leehan at LaMoure. The couple made their home there and she then worked for two years in the LaMoure County Treasurer’s Office. Mr. Leehan died in 1957. After leaving LaMoure, Florence worked as a housekeeper for the priests at St. James Catholic Church, Jamestown, for three years and then moved to Valley City in 1968 where she served as a housekeeper and bookkeeper at St. Catherine’s Church for 10 years.
In 1978, she married
Karl Kohn. Mr. Kohn died in 1995. Florence was an active member of St. Catherine’s Church and the Altar Society. She was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, the Valley City Country Club and the Degree of Honor. She did many hours of volunteer work for various organizations.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley (Jack) Ragan, Verona; one son, Rev. James (Melissa) Leehan, Indianapolis, Ind.; three sisters, Caroline (Lester) Walburn, Edgeley, Eleanor Redmond, Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Dolores Ansteth, Yuma, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Interment at Holy Rosary Cemetery, LaMoure.

Robert W. Devitt
Family memorial services for Robert W. Devitt, 77, Roseburg, Ore., were held on Saturday, January 12, 2002. He died on Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at his home.
Robert William Devitt, son of Conrad and Carolyn (Biesterfeld) Devitt, was born on April 19, 1924 in Milnor. He was raised on a farm in North Dakota with his five brothers and sisters. Following high school, he joined the Marine Corps and went on to serve in World War II.
On June 12, 1948, he married
Carolyn Beck and the couple moved to Roseburg, Ore. He was an independent trucker and travelled many miles up and down I-5.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Devitt, Roseburg, Ore.; one daughter, Sharyn (Bill) Adams; three brothers, Roger Devitt, Redmond, Ore., Bud Devitt, Kaiser, Ore., and Doug Devitt, Roseburg, Ore; one sister, Daryl Lilly, Umpqua, Ore.; and two grandchildren.
Glen E. Anderson
Funeral services for Glen E. Anderson, 76, Sheldon, were held on Monday, January 28, 2002 at Helendale Lutheran Church, Leonard. Reverend David Thoreson officiated. Mr. Anderson died on Thursday, January 24, 2002 at Heartland Hospital, Fargo.
Glen E. Anderson, son of Myron A. and Annie C. (Sandvig) Anderson, was born on July 19, 1924 in rural Sheldon. He grew up and attended a rural Sheldon school. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp and he ranched near Sheldon.
On July 2, 1950, he married
Agnes Broberg in rural Leonard. He was a member of the Sheldon Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and the Sheyenne Valley Grazing Association. He had served on the board and as president. He had served on the Helendale Church Council and was the sexton of Helendale Cemetery. He was instrumental in the restoration and preservation of the Owego Pioneer Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Anderson, Enderlin; two sons, Gary (Norma) Anderson, Sheldon, and Ricky (Diann) Anderson, Enderlin; two daughters, Alice (Doug) Spiekermeier, Pelican Rapids, Minn., and Christy (Kevin) Hartl, Enderlin; one brother, Alfred Anderson, Fargo; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Allen, Norman and Eldon Anderson.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Larry Anderson, Randy Anderson, Keith Anderson, Loren Vanderwerff, Arlin Vanderwerff and Bill Rector. Honorary pallbearers were all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Bernice Painter and soloist Michael Lynnes.
Interment at Helendale Cemetery, Leonard.
