Opal E. Horvath
A private committal service for Opal Evangeline Horvath, 87, Yuma, Ariz. (formerly of Fargo), will take place on July 8, 2002 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo. Mrs. Horvath died on Thursday, March 28, 2002 in a Minot, N.D. nursing home.
Opal Evangeline Doeling, daughter of Gustave and Ida Doeling, was born November 22, 1914 in Casey Township, near Enderlin. She grew up and was educated in Casey Township and graduated from Casey #2 Consolidated High School in 1932. In 1933, she moved to Joliet, Ill.
On February 22, 1934, she married
Peter J. Horvath in Morris, Ill. and they later divorced. She moved to North Dakota, where she raised her family and attended business college. Opal worked as a bookkeeper in Fargo until retiring in 1979. She moved to Yuma, Ariz. where she was an active member of the Garden Club.
She is survived by four sons, Gordon (Maxine) Horvath, Yuma; David (Joan) Horvath, Seattle, Wash.; Bob (Cathy) Horvath, Minot; and Ron (Kathie) Horvath, Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eight sisters and brothers; and one son, Peter Horvath.

Mary J. Prante
Funeral services for Mary J. Prante, 92, Milnor, were held on Friday, April 5, 2002 at the United Methodist Church, Milnor. Reverend Jack Erickson officiated. Mrs. Prante died on Sunday, March 31, 2002 at Bethany Homes, Fargo.
Mary Josephine Morkert, daughter of Gustav and Fairy (McLoad) Morkert, was born on September 15, 1909 in York, N.D. She grew up and attended school in Streeter and lived with foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Macken. She attended college at Ellendale Normal Industrial, Ellendale. She taught school in Tappen, Napoleon and Milnor.
On September 22, 1934, she married
James Roscoe Prante in Steele, N.D. The couple lived in Lisbon and Eugene, Ore., before returning to the Milnor area. They farmed until their retirement in 1972. After retiring, James and Mary spent their summers at Clitherall Lake, Minn. and winters in Mesa, Ariz. James died on May 22, 1984. Mary continued to live in Milnor and Mesa before moving to Fargo in 1999. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Milnor, and Velda Rose Methodist Church, Mesa. She was president of the Ladies’ Aid and a Sunday school teacher for over 25 years at United Methodist in Milnor. Mary was president of Band Mothers at Milnor Public School and a 4-H leader.
She is survived by two sons, James (Mary Lu) Prante, Milnor, and Dennis Prante, West Fargo; one daughter, Betty (Eric) Nygaard, Fargo; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Prante; two brothers and one sister.
Pallbearers for the funeral were her grandchildren, Wade Nygaard, Mary Jo Schroeder, Richard Prante, Tim Prante, Bill Prante, Bob Prante, Eileen Marohl, Julie Shannon, Jim Prante, Jerry Prante, Jay Prante and Leah Nygaard. Honorary pallbearers were all the grandchildren-in-law and the great-grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Eileen Lotzer and soloists Bob Schutt and Norman Cross.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Marian Dietrich
Funeral services for Marian Dietrich, 81, Lisbon, were held on Friday, April 5, 2002 at Standing Rock Lutheran Church, Fort Ransom. Reverend David Carlson officiated. A memorial prayer service was held on Thursday evening at the Leonard Lutheran Church. Mrs. Dietrich died on Monday, April 1, 2002 in her home.
Marian Erickson, daughter of John and Helga (Ronning) Erickson, was born on August 6, 1920 near Fort Ransom. She attended Nelson School near her home and worked for area families and relatives.
On November 15, 1940, she married
Henry Rasmusson in Moorhead, Minn. They farmed near Fort Ransom until 1956 when they moved to Milwaukee, Wis. Henry died in 1963. She moved to Valley City in 1965 and worked at Sheyenne Care Center for two years. She moved to Fort Ransom and later to Lisbon where she worked at the N.D. Veterans Home.
In June 1977, she married
Art Dietrich and they lived in Leonard. Art died in 1996. She stayed in Leonard until 1999 when she moved back to Lisbon.
She is survived by one son, Howard (Olive) Rasmusson, Leonard; one daughter, Patricia (Lloyd) Bradford, Muskego, Wis.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bessie (Klabo) Enga, Lisbon and Helen Christian, Sequim, Wash.; three sisters-in-law, Bernice Erickson, Lisbon, Olga Rasmusson, Fort Ransom, and Elnor Block, Oakes; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and one brother, Harry.
Interment at Standing Rock Cemetery, Fort Ransom.

Hollis C.L. Solheim
Funeral services for Hollis Clifford LeRoy Solheim, 81, Fingal, were held on Friday, April 5, 2002, at Waldheim Lutheran Church, rural Kathryn. Reverend Bradley Edin officiated. Mr. Solheim died on Sunday, March 31, 2002 at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Hollis Clifford LeRoy Solheim, son of Theodore and Alma (Bryne) Solheim, was born June 22, 1920 near Kathryn. He attended the Erickson and Eastedge schools near Nome, N.D., and graduated from Nome High School. Hollis served in the Civilian Conservation Corp and worked on the family farm before entering the U.S. Army on March 30, 1932. He participated in the Normandy Invasion and was among the first American troops to land in Normandy. He was injured during the invasion and received the Purple Heart. He was discharged from active service in May 1945 with a rank of Staff Sergeant. He lived in Minneapolis for a time and then made his home on the family farm near Fingal in February 2002, he became a resident of the Sheyenne Care Center.
He is survived by two brothers, Duane Solheim, Fingal, and Russell (Judith) Solheim, Valley City; one nephew; two nieces; one sister-in-law; four great-nephews and two great-nieces.
Interment at Waldheim Cemetery, rural Kathryn.

Tiffany Grace Renken
Private funeral services for Tiffany Grace Renken, infant daughter of Paul and Michelle Renken, Oakes, were held on Saturday, March 30, 2002. She died on Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at the Oakes Hospital.
Tiffany Grace Renken, daughter of Paul and Michelle (Mathena) Renken, was born and died on March 26, 2002 at the Oakes Hospital.
She is survived by her parents; one brother, Tyler; her grandmothers, Nancy Mathena, Moffit, N.D., and Rosemary Renken, Mandan; one great-grandmother, Nellie Ulrich, Castle Rock, Wash.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Loren Renken and James “Bud” Mathena.
Interment at Glencoe Cemetery.

Mattie Nordhagen
Funeral services for Mattie Nordhagen, 87, Lisbon, were held on Saturday, March 30 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson and Reverend David Killeen officiated. Mrs. Nordhagen died Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Mattie Molskness, daughter of Torger and Bergetta (Torgerson) Molskness, was born on November 21, 1914, in Frost, Minn. She attended school in Bricelyn, Minn.
On January 18, 1935, she married
Alfred N. Nordhagen in Lisbon. He died September 29, 1982. They lived near Englevale until 1942 when they moved to Lisbon. Mattie worked at Tom’s Corner Grocery and Lisbon Medical Center.
She is survived by two sons, Truman (Geraldine) Nordhagen, South Bend, Ind., and Bernard (Patricia) Nordhagen) Lisbon; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred Nordhagen, one brother and two sisters.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Ken Williams II, Chuck Armstrong, Burton Lande, Darrel Lande, Elwood Lande, and Duane Lande.
Music was provided by organist Cindy Hagel and soloist Jan Hansen.
Interment at St. Paul Cemetery, rural Lisbon.

Edward D. Black
Funeral services for Edward D. Black, 68, Albany, Minn., were held on Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, Minn. Reverend Richard Wehrs officiated. Mr. Black died on Monday, March 18, 2002 at his home in rural Albany.
Edward D. Black, son of Clifford R. and Charlotte (Bjugstad) Black, was born on August 25, 1933 in Venlo, N.D. He graduated high school in 1951 from Sheldon. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1957.
On September 19, 1959, he married
Eunice Sorby in Hastings, N.D. He graduated from North Dakota State University in 1966 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle, Wash. The family moved to the St. Cloud area in 1977 and Edward worked at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center until his retirement in 1993. Edward and Eunice moved to Albany in 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice Black, Albany; three sons, Jeff (Kathryn) Black, Cottage Grove, Minn., Jay (Stacie) Black, St. Cloud, Minn., and Jon Black, Minneapolis; four grandchildren; three brothers, Curtis Black, Sheldon, Howard Black, Fargo, and Arden Black, Crandon, Wis.; one sister, Evelyn Seigel, Moorhead. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Gloria Trevino; and one grandson.
Interment will be at Sheldon at a later date.

James E. Seitz
Funeral services for James E. Seitz, 67, Fargo, were held on Monday, March 25, 2002 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, West Fargo. Mr. Seitz died Friday, March 22, 2002 at his home in Fargo.
James E. Seitz was born on December 7, 1934 in Lemmon, S.D. He grew up and attended schools in the western and central North Dakota areas. He began farming his parents’ farm in the Carrington, N.D. area.
In 1956, he married
Mary K. Murphy at Bordulac, N.D. They farmed in the Bordulac area for may years where they raised their family. Jim retired from farming in the late 1980s.
On May 24, 1997, he married
Eilene Sweet in Fargo. They resided in Fargo since that time. During Jim’s retirement years, he actively promoted wind energy in North Dakota.
He is survived by his wife, Eilene Seitz, Fargo; two sons, Jay A. Seitz and Tom (Britt) Seitz, both of Alpharetta, Ga.; five daughters, Lenore Seitz, Mandan, N.D., Paula (Mark) Netherda, Santa Rosa, Calif., Mary Beth (Brian) Strand, Bemidji, Minn., Patricia (Kelly) Kulbeck, Bozeman, Mont., and Jennifer Seitz, Santa Rosa, Calif.; four brothers, Dan (Iona) Seitz, Yakima, Wash., Reinhold (Ginny) Seitz, Spokane, Wash., Herman (June) Seitz, Clinton, Iowa, and Robert (Angela) Seitz, Jamestown; six sisters, Delores Mathisen, Cooperstown, N.D., Aggie Macal, Ottertail, Minn., Bert (John) Murphy, Carrington, N.D., Marilyn Seitz, Fargo, Mary Ellen (Charles) Frey, Jamestown, and Virginia Prendergast, St. Mary’s Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.
Interment at the Seitz Family Farm, Carrington.
