Bernice Slepski
Bernice Slepski, 84, Chula Vista, Calif., died on Monday, April 1, 2002, at Friendly Hills Convalescent Center, Chula Vista. No services will be held.
Bernice Noonan, daughter of Hilda and Thomas Noonan, was born December 7, 1917 in Lisbon. She graduated from Lisbon High School then went on to pursue a nursing career in Minneapolis.
She is survived by two sisters, Winifred (Maurice) Nelson, Fullerton, Calif., and Doris Keyes, Tucson, Ariz.; and one brother, Tom Noonan, Fargo. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Henry Slepski.
Greenwood Mortuary, San Diego, Calif., was in charge of arrangements.
Lloyd F. Nelson
Funeral services for Lloyd F. Nelson, 86, Lisbon, were held on Monday, April 8, 2002 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Lisbon. Father C.F. Wilhelm officiated. Mr. Nelson died on Friday, April 5, 2002 in his home in Lisbon.
Lloyd F. Nelson, son of Olaf and Annie Marie (Gallagher) Nelson, was born on November 20, 1915 in rural Milnor. He attended rural Lisbon school.
On October 13, 1947, he married
Margaret K. Carroll in Lisbon. They farmed near Elliott and Lisbon for several years. They moved into Lisbon in 1964. Lloyd worked at Berube’s for several years. He also had a fresh vegetable business for 19 years.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan (Charles) Hitchcock, Bismarck, and Sandy (Rick) Black, Sheldon; two sons, Robert (Lynette) Nelson and Dale Nelson, both of Lisbon; six sisters, Lorraine Schmit, Joyce Wolters, Doris (Edward) Wolters, Marilyn Nelson and Ann Strander, all of Lisbon, and Gladys Schmit, Beach; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Nelson, who died October 10, 1991; four brothers, Raymond Nelson, Leo Nelson, Clifford Nelson and Don Nelson; and two sisters, Maxine Patterson and Berneice Sullivan.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Tim Nelson, Trevor Hitchcock, Darwin Strander, Dennis Strander, Don Smith and John McCann.
Music was provided by organist Carol McCann and cantor Allen Remily.
Interment at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Lisbon.

Ralph L. Trom
Funeral services for Ralph L. Trom, 92, Alexandria, Minn., were held on Monday, April 8, 2002 at Kindred Lutheran Church, Kindred. Reverend Brian Wasmoen officiated. Mr. Trom died on Thursday, April 4, 2002 at Clearwater Suites, Alexandria. Ralph L. Trom, son of Olaf K. and Janna Olava (Johnson) Trom, was born on January 7, 1910 in Kindred. He grew up and attended school in Kindred and Wahpeton.
In 1938, he married
Thelma Johnson in Atwater, Minn., and they had one child together. He began his long career at Kindred State Bank as a custodian in 1930 and retired as president 61 years later. Throughout his years in Kindred, Ralph was active in civic, church and school activities. He held numerous positions in various organizations in town, church and school, as well as county and state organizations. In 1992, Ralph and Thelma moved to Fargo as residents of Riverview Place, where Thelma died in 1995. In 2001, Ralph moved to Alexandria, Minn.
He is survived by one daughter, Janna (Jeff) Lindoo, Alexandria, Minn.; four sisters-in-law, Clara (Rueben) Trom, Ventura, Calif., Eileen (Ordner) Trom, Grand Junction, Colo., Hazel (Irvin) Trom, Bismarck, and Thelma (Alfred) Trom, Lisbon; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma Trom; and brothers and sisters, Clara Trom Haldi, Ordner Trom, Sophus Trom, Carl Trom, Luella Trom Roden, Alfred Trom, Ruth Trom Wilkison Deal, Irvin Trom, Rueben Trom and Donald Trom.
Interment at Kindred Cemetery, Kindred.

Richard A. Jasmann
Funeral services for Richard A. Jasmann, 62, Jamestown, were held on Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at the Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Reverend Kevin Zaun officiated. Mr. Jasmann died on Saturday April 6, 2002 at the Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.
Richard Arnold Jasmann, son of Edward and Alma (Wagnitz) Jasmann, was born October 27, 1939 in Harvey. He attended school at Hurdsfield where he received his elementary education and grew up in the vicinity.
On June 16, 1959, he married
Rosemarie Reinpold at James-town. They moved to Denver, Colo., where he worked at Associated Grocers. In 1964, they moved to a farm near Spiritwood where they farmed until 1978 when he moved into Jamestown where he drove bus. In 1987, he moved to Fergus Falls, Minn. and went to work at Hardees Restaurant. In 1992, he moved back to Hurdsfield where he drove truck. In 2002, he moved back to Jamestown. He was a member of the Basilica of St. James, the Knights of Columbus, Jamestown, and the Lion’s Club, Fergus Falls.
He is four daughters, Donna Jordon, Juneau, Alaska, Maria Elana Katherine “Malena” Jasmann, Lisbon, Maureen (Sherwin) Wanner, Mandan, and Bernadette Barbara (Bruce) Eckman, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; five sons, Edward Arnold (Joy) Jasmann, Tower City, Daniel Francis (Dawn) Jasmann, Enderlin, Gregory Alan Jasmann, West Fargo, Anthony Christopher (Renae) Jasmann, and Maurice Thomas Jasmann, Lisbon; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Wilmer “Bud” Jasmann, Hurdsfield.
Interment will be at a later date at the Hurdsfield Cemetery, Hurdsfield, N.D.

Eleanor Mae Ladd
Private funeral services were held for Eleanor Mae Ladd, 85, Palm Springs, Calif. Mrs. Ladd died on March 27, 2002 at her home.
Eleanor Mae Ladd, daughter of Milton and Edna (Potts) Cole, was born Mary 8, 1916 in Crookston, Minn. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1934. She served in the Air Force for four years. She was employed as a secretary for a construction company in Africa and areas in the United States.
She is survived by three sisters, Marjorie Johnson, Lisbon, Betty Fish, St. Paul, Minn., and Lois Egan, Bloomington, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Craig Ladd, who died January 12, 1949 when the Air Force cargo plane he was piloting crashed during the Berlin airlift operation.
Interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Bayfield, Wis.

Evelyn K. Urbach
Funeral services for Evelyn K. Urbach, 78, Wheat Ridge, Colo., were held on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Englevale. Reverend David Isaacson officiated. Ms. Urbach died on Monday, March 18, 2002 at Lutheran Medical Center, Wheat Ridge.
Evelyn K. Urbach, daughter of Ada and Amelia P. (Schoeszler) Urbach, was born on January 28, 1924 in Elliott. She grew up and attended school in Elliott. She moved from rural Elliot to Colorado in 1956 where she worked at Woolworth’s.
She is survived by one brother, Robert (Jean) Urbach, Lisbon; and one sister, Ruth Hass, Arvada, Colo. She was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Urbach.
Music was provided by organist Marlene Dahl and soloist Doris Stroh.
Interment at Dick Cemetery, rural Englevale.

Nancy Mae Bakken
Funeral services for Nancy Mae Bakken, 62, Wichita, Kan., were held on Monday, April 8, 2002 at Zion Lutheran Church, Argonia, Kan. Revered Stan Ostgren officiated. Mrs. Bakken died on Thursday, April 4, 2002 in Wichita.
Nancy Mae Buchholz, daughter of Paul and Erna (Schulz) Buchholz, was born on May 7, 1939 in Durbin, N.D. She graduated from Casselton High School, Casselton, in 1957.
On October 10, 1959, she married
Robert E. Bakken at Davenport, N.D. She was employed by Northwest Bell Telephone, Fargo, for five years. She then managed and operated Bob & John’s Convenience Store in Argonia, Kan. for several years. During her marriage, they lived in several places, including West Fargo, Jamestown and Beulah, N.D., Baker, Mont., and Argonia, Kan.
She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Bakken, Wichita; one son, Rory Bakken, Wichita; one daughter, Vicki (Steve)Markham, Garnett, Kan.; two granddaughters; four brothers, Leslie Buchholz, Durbin, Willie Buchholz, West Fargo, Art Buchholz, Erie, N.D., and Arnie Buchholz, Lisbon; and four sisters, Elda Foster, Fargo, Violet Allen, Fargo, Margaret Foster, Arthur, and Paulette Frasier, Boise, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother and a sister, Marvel Gebeke.
Music was provided by organist Carol Hamilton.
Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.

Alice D. Anderson
Funeral services for Alice D. Anderson 95, Kathryn, N.D., were held on Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at Preston Lutheran Church, rural Kathryn. Reverend David Carlson officiated. Mrs. Anderson died on Sunday, April 21, 2002 at Mercy Hospital, Valley City.
Alice Dorothy Hansen, daughter of Alfred and Inga (Anderson) Hansen, was born August 21, 1906 in Litchville, N.D. She was the oldest child of nine. She graduated from Litchville High School and went on to Valley City State University, where she attained her teaching certificate. She taught in Northland Township in Ransom County from 1926 until 1928.
On July 5, 1928, she married
George Anderson in Detroit Lakes, Minn. They made their home on a farm in Northland Township, near Kathryn. She taught again from 1943-1944. George died on November 5, 1971 and she continued to live on the farm. She was a member of Preston Lutheran Church and was a life-member of their ladies aid and a past Sunday School teacher. She was also a member and past secretary of the Sons of Norway and a former Farmers Union youth leader.
She is survived by one son, Gary Anderson, Kathryn; one daughter, Delaine Anderson, Valley City; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gordon Hansen, Valley City; and two sisters, Esther Belling, Fargo, and Anna Braga, Tacoma, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Anderson; one son, Gale Anderson; four brothers and a sister.
Interment at Northland Cemetery, rural Kathryn.

Gladys M. Ussatis
Funeral services for Gladys M. Ussatis, 90, Lisbon (formerly Nome), were held on Thursday, April 25, 2002 at Zion Lutheran Church, Nome. Reverend Bradley Edin officiated. Mrs. Ussatis died on Monday, April 22, 2002 at Lisbon Medical Center Nursing Home, Lisbon.
Gladys M. Trienen, daughter of Henry and Mary (John) Trienen, was born on December 28, 1911 in Cuba, N.D., where she grew up and attended school.
On September 11, 1934, she married
Richard Ussatis in Fingal. They lived near Nome, N.D. In 1998, they moved to the Beverly Anne Assisted Living Center in Lisbon. In July of 2000, Gladys entered the nursing home. She was a member of the Zion WELCA and a circle and the Nome Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Ussatis, Lisbon; one daughter, Phyllis Johnson, Enderlin; two sons, Vernon (Lucy) Ussatis, Hastings, Minn., and Dennis (Faye) Ussatis, Burnsville, Minn.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Herman (Agnes) Trienen, Valley City; and one sister, Eleanor Listrom, Valley City. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and two brothers.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Dwight Ussatis, Derek Ussatis, David Ussatis, Bryan Ussatis, Heidi Taschner, Kenneth Ussatis and Edward Finger. Honorary pallbearers were all in attendance.
Music was provided by organist Loretta Ussatis and soloist Willard Lee.
Interment at Memory Gardens, Valley City.
