Louis “Butch” Forster
Funeral services for Louis “Butch” Forster, 80, Lidgerwood, N.D., were held on Monday, April 22, 2002, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Lidgerwood. Father Joseph Huebsch officiated. Mr. Forster died on Thursday, April 18, 2002 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo.
Louis Forster, son of George Sr. and Elizabeth (Harles) Forster, was born on August 8, 1921, in Duerr Township, rural Lidgerwood. He grew up on the farm and attended country school. He entered the U.S. Army on April 25, 1944, finished basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., before going overseas in December. He was a Medical Technician, Private First Class in World War II in Germany until being discharged on April 30, 1946. He was stationed near Rhineland and travelled to England, France and Austria. Louis worked mostly for the Med-Care with evacuations and in the hospital. He received numerous medals and ribbons for his service to his country, including Army of Occupation Medal Germany, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, one Overseas Service Bar and a Lapel Button.
On October 23, 1945, he married
Ann Peffer in St. Boniface Catholic Church, Lidgerwood. After his discharge in 1946, he did carpentry work for a year. In 1947 they farmed near Lidgerwood. In 1953, they purchased a farm southeast of Lidgerwood in Grant Township. In November 1980, they moved into Lidgerwood. He retired from farming in 1983 and continued to live in Lidgerwood. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and was an usher for many years. He was a member of the Lidgerwood Senior Citizens, the Lidgerwood American Legion Bullis Post #84, a 41-year member of the Knights of Columbus and a 3rd Degree Knight, and a Grant Township Supervisor for many years.
He is survived by three sons, Larry (Sharon) Forster, Gwinner, Kenneth (Nancy) Forster, Forman, and Michael (Carol) Forster, Lidgerwood; one daughter, Lois (Rick) Pearson, Wahpeton; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ann Forster, who died on December 29, 2001; two brothers, John Forster and George Forster, Jr.; and his twin sister, Louis Peffer.
Pallbearers for the funeral were all of the grandchildren: Keith Forster, Jerad David, Lisa Forster, Katie LeMier, Nathan Forster, Karissa Pearson and Kayla Pearson. Honorary pallbearers were all of his friends and family.
Military honors by the Lidgerwood American Legion Bullis Post #84.
Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Lidgerwood.
Charles Challey
Funeral services for Charles Challey, 92, Valley City, were held on Thursday, April 25, 2002 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City. Reverend Paul Huso and Reverend Mark Ostgarden officiated. Mr. Challey died on Monday, April 22, 2002 at Mercy Hospital, Valley City.
Charles J. Challey, son of John and Ragnild (Benson) Challey, was born October 19, 1909 in Lisbon. He graduated from Lisbon High School and then went on to attain his Bachelor of Science and Masters Degree from North Dakota State University, Fargo.
On April 10, 1944 he married
Helen Frank, Fargo. He worked for the U.S.D.A. as a field researcher and taught vocational agriculture at the schools in LaMoure and Valley City. He started Vo-Ag and FFA in Valley City and also worked with adult education for returning veterans. Charles retired in 1973 after 26 years of teaching in the Valley City school system. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City, where he was a past councilman. He was also a member of the Sheyenne Valley Woodcarvers and a past member of the Valley City Elks.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Challey, Valley City; three sons, James (Janet Gray) Challey, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., John (Mary) Challey, Fargo, and David (Connie) Challey, Hankinson; one daughter, Lucille (James) Wire, Fargo; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers and two sisters.
Interment at Memory Gardens, near Valley City.

Vickie Lynn Henricks
Funeral services for Vickie Lynn Henricks, 41 Dickinson (formerly Lisbon), were held on Saturday, April 27, 2002 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Reverend Scott McKirdy officiating and at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson officiated. Ms. Henricks died at her home of natural causes on Tuesday, April 23, 2002.
Vickie Lynn Henricks, daughter of Henry J. and Anna Mae (Adolfs) Henricks, was born on July 11, 1960 in Lisbon. She was raised and educated in Lisbon, graduating from Lisbon High School in 1978. She worked at the Lisbon Cafe and the Creamery while going to school.
On May 11, 1982, she married
Loren Aarseth in Dickinson. She began working part-time for ABLE, Inc., and for the past 13 years, she has been with them on a full-time basis. She also volunteered much of her time to different programs at work.
She is survived by her son, Andy (special friend, Jenn Stewart) Aarseth, Dickinson; her parents, Henry and Anna Mae Henricks, Lisbon; three brothers, Monte Henricks, Perham, Minn., Jeff Henricks, Lisbon, and Joe (Diane) Henricks, Fargo; six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and one brother, Mitchell Henricks, who died September 27, 2001.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Sigward Roones
Funeral services for Sigward Roones, 75, Milnor, were held on Monday, April 29, 2002, at Milnor Lutheran Church, Milnor. Reverend Arthur Larson officiated. Mr. Roones died at his home on Thursday, April 25, 2002.
Sigward Roones, son of Hans and Anna (Stockstad) Roones, was born September 15, 1926 on the family farm near Milnor. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school at Shuman #4. The family later moved into Milnor where Sigward lived until the time of his death. He worked on area farms in the Milnor and Gwinner area until his retirement.
He is survived by two brothers, Orville (Trudy) Roones, Port Charlotte, Fla., and Olaf (Carol) Roones, Heyburn, Idaho; three sisters, Bernice Rivenes, West Fargo, Evelyn Kraig, Forman, and Alice Decker, Gwinner; and one sister-in-law, Eva Roones, Milnor. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Pallbearers at the funeral were Gary Decker, Dennis Decker, Jim West, Telmer Kraig, Joe Malheim, Clayton Rivenes, Kim Beckstrom and Charles Enge.
Special music was provided by Carol Ydstie.
Interment at Concordia Cemetery, rural Milnor.

Leonard H. Drabus
Funeral services for Leonard H. Drabus, 82, Harvey, were held on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare. Mr. Drabus died on Thursday, April 11, 2002 in a Minot hospital.
Leonard H. Drabus, son of Frank and Marie (Hoffman) Drabus, was born September 21, 1919 in Enderlin. He was reared and educated in Kenmare. Following school, he went to work for the Soo Line Railroad. In 1941, he entered the United States Army and served during World War II in the 164th Infantry. He was honorably discharged on May 29, 1945 at Fort Snelling, Minn. He returned to the Kenmare area and continued to work for the Soo Line Railroad.
On September 15, 1945, he married
Margaret “Peggy” Bird in Kenmare. They lived in Kenmare until the mid 1950s when they moved to Harvey. Leonard retired in 1985 as an Engineer with the Soo Line. His wife died in 1988 and he continued to live in Harvey until the time of his death. He was a member of the Eagles Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, all of Harvey. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association. Leonard attended First Lutheran Church, Harvey.
He is survived by one son, Kelly Drabus, Valley City; one daughter, Lorraine (Michael) Wagner, Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his twin brother, Lawrence (Twila) Drabus, Kenmare; one sister, Eileen (Clarence) Riske, Hendersonville, N.C. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Drabus; and one sister, Lorraine Drabus.
Interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare.

Roger J. Wiemann
Funeral services for Roger J. Wiemann, 77, Verona, were held on Thursday, April 18, 2002 at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, Verona. Father Julian Kupisz was the celebrant. Mr. Wiemann died on Monday, April 15, 2002 at Parkside Lutheran Home, Lisbon.
Roger Jacob Wiemann, son of Jake and Barbara (Hess) Wiemann, was born on October 17, 1924 in Verona, where he grew up and attended school.
On October 7, 1944, he married
Evelyn Marie Pritchard in Verona. They lived in Grand Forks and in Valley City before returning to Verona where Roger owned and operated the Verona Repair Shop. In 1968, Roger began working for the Melroe Bobcat Company in Gwinner, until retiring in 1985. His wife, Evelyn, died on July 21, 1997. He continued to live in Verona until entering Parkside Lutheran Home, Lisbon, earlier this month. He was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, Verona.
He is survived by two daughters, Diana (Ora) Elliott, Sanborn, N.D., and Ramona (Jim) Myrah, Rosemount, Minn.; three sons, Dennis (Gayle) Wiemann, Memphis, Tenn., Rick (Nancy) Wiemann, Verona, and Bill (Diane) Wiemann, Fargo; one brother, Alvin Wiemann, Dickinson; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn Wiemann; and one son, Kelly.
Pallbearers for the funeral were all of Roger’s grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Marlene Dahl and soloist Hannah Bleese.
Interment at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery, Verona.

Melvin W. Brehm
Funeral services for Melvin W. “Bud” Brehm, 87, Enderlin, were held on Monday, April 15, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Mike Toomey officiated. Mr. Brehm died on Thursday, April 11, 2002 at Hillcrest Manor, Enderlin.
Melvin W. Brehm, son of Fred and Ella (Kannenberg) Brehm, was born on August 19, 1914 in Churchs Ferry, N.D. He grew up and attended school at Churchs Ferry.
On December 6, 1980, he married
Elva Scilley Schimming in Fargo. He farmed near Churchs Ferry until 1982. They moved into Churchs Ferry. In October 1990, they moved to Enderlin.
He is survived by his wife, Elva Brehm, Enderlin; one step-son, Myron (Carolyn) Schimming, El Sobrante, Calif.; two step-daughters, Janice (Walt) Rodlund, Fargo, and Karen Redmond, Enderlin; 10 step-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harold Brehm.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Kelly Redmond, Jess Redmond, Greg Rodlund, Gene Schmidt, Glen Wharm and Michael Rohrer. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Joan Schlecht and soloist Katie Meyer.

Gladys M. Foley
Funeral services for Gladys M. Foley, 92, DeLamere, were held on Monday, April 15, 2002 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural DeLamere. Reverend Arthur Larson officiated. Mrs. Foley died on Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Parkside Lutheran Home, Lisbon.
Gladys M. Peterson, daughter of Magnus and Anna (Holmgren) Peterson, was born October 10, 1909 near Milnor, where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Milnor High School and then worked as a telephone operator in Milnor.
On July 21, 1934, she married
Arthur Foley. They lived on a farm south of DeLamere until Arthur died in 1961. Gladys then made her home in Fargo and Staples, Minn., until the summer of 1984 when she moved to Milnor. In 1999, she became a resident of Parkside Lutheran Home, Lisbon. Gladys was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was active in the ladies’ auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, James (Ione) Foley, Milnor, and R. Larry (Mary Anne) Foley, Beaverton, Ore.; one daughter, Shirley (Sherm) Moxness, Minneapolis; one sister, Hazel Thompson, Lisbon; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Foley; an infant son; one daughter, Joy; five brothers and four sisters.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Carl Nelson, Loren Hudson, Ray Hogness, Jerry Friskop, Kenny Quam and Dan Mund.
Music was provided by organist Arlene Lillestol and soloist Roger Wehlander.
Interment at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Delamere.
