Janet Nelson
Funeral services for Janet Nelson, 73, Fullerton, N.D., were held on Monday, April 15, 2002 at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, rural LaMoure. Reverend John Estrem officiated. Mrs. Nelson died on Friday, April 12, 2002 at Oakes Community Hospital, Oakes, N.D.
Janet Herman, daughter of Arthur and Agnes (Staab) Herman, was born on December 7, 1928 at Hugo, Colo. She graduated from Denver North High School in 1946 and then attended Colorado A & M, Fort Collins, Colo. After her school, Jan was employed with Amter’s Fashions, Denver, Colo. In 1952, she moved to North Dakota.
On April 5, 1952, she married
Robert Nelson. They made their home in the rural LaMoure area. She was a member of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church and was the church organist for many years. She was a charter member of the LaMoure Summer Theatre Board. She wrote a column for the LaMoure Chronicle called Through A Farm House Window for nine years. On April 5, 2002, she and her husband, Robert celebrated their golden anniversary.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Nelson, Fullerton; two sons, David (Susan) Nelson, Willmar, Minn., and Ben (Lynn) Nelson, LaMoure; two daughters, Colleen Schlosser, Edgeley, and Carol Collette, Grand Forks; one brother, William (Phyllis) Herman, Wheat Ridge, Colo.; one sister, DeAnna (Earl) Scheaffer, Westminster, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Tom Schumacker, Isaac Schlosser, Scott Collette, Brent Nelson, Dale Harris and Bernt Nelson.
Music was provided by organist Juanita Hocking and vocalists Ben Nelson and David Nelson.
Interment at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural LaMoure.

Pete Differding
Funeral services for Pete Differding, 63, Lisbon, were held on Saturday, May 11, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Donald Polege officiated. Mr. Differding died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at his home in rural Lisbon.
Pete Differding, son of Peter and Sophie (Grob) Differding was born on September 11, 1938 in rural Hankinson. He attended school in Hankinson. Mr. Differding had served in the U.S. Army.
On Julie 13, 1958, he married
Deloris Miller, in Wahpeton. They lived in Breckenridge. He worked for Pure Oil Co. of Wahpeton. They lived in Fargo for several years where he worked for Roofing Co. They moved to Lisbon in 1974. They were co-owners of the Lisbon Ice Cream Store. Then Pete became the distributor for Cass-Clay Milk. Pete was a member of the Eagles, American Legion, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited and active in Redeemer Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris Differding; three daughters, Dawn (Duane) Lemieux, Lisbon, Jodie (Pat) Girgen, So. St. Paul, Minn., and Wendy (Jeff Odenbrett, Fargo; three grandchildren; four brothers, Ben (Berniece) Differding, Breckenridge, Minn., Adolph (Eunice) Differding, Forest Lake, Minn., Jerome (Vickie) Differding, Fargo, and Charlie (Gerry) Differding, Duluth, Minn.; two sisters, Patricia Prchal, Wahpeton, and Deloris Gereszek, Hankinson. He was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Pallbearers for the funeral were John Gereszek, Ron Prchal, Ken Prchal, Brent Differding, Scott Differding, Wayne Differding, David Differding, Ben Differding, Jr. and Gordy Evenson, Jr.
Music was provided by organist Louise Kunze and soloist Christie Urbach.

Betty M. Krom
Funeral services for Betty M. Krom, 74, Enderlin, were held on Friday, May 10, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Mike Toomey officiated. Mrs. Krom died on Monday, May 6, 2002 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Betty M. Fernow, daughter of Edwin and Lydia (Anderson) Fernow, was born on February 16, 1928 in rural Enderlin. She attended Enderlin school and graduated from NDSU in Fargo.
On June 25, 1950, she married
Thomas J. Krom in Enderlin. They lived in Enderlin throughout their marriage. Betty taught Home Economics in LaMoure from 1949-1951, Fingal from 1951-1952 and Enderlin from 1952-1956 and 1977-1991. She was active in the community and church. In 1983, she was named Future Homemaker Advisor of the Year and in 1989, and was named Vocational Teacher of the Year.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Krom, Enderlin; two sons, Thomas (Tudy) Krom, Strasburg, Colo., and John (Wanda) Krom, Fargo; one daughter, Kathryn Krom, Mound, Minn.; one sister, Erlys Fardal, Bismarck; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Fran and Jerry Muckenhirn, Carole and Larry Tosseth, Betty and Jim Flatt, Maynard and Paulette Torbenson, Marv and Teddy Fink, Charles and Shirley Feeney.
Music was provided by organists Gretchen Hoy and Verna Armstrong and vocalists Jack Armstrong and Bobby Geske.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin.

Olive E. Thorfinnson
Funeral services for Olive E. Thorfinnson, 97, Lisbon (formerly Fort Ransom), were held on Friday, May 10, 2002 at First United Presbyterian Church, Lisbon. Reverend Beth Conrad officiated. Mrs. Thorfinnson died on Sunday, May 5, 2002 at Lisbon Medical Center Nursing Home, Lisbon.
Olive E. Eidsvig, daughter of Ole J. and Anna (Jensen) Eidsvig, was born on December 5, 1904 in Kathryn, N.D. She attended Eastedge school and high school at NDSU. She also received a home economics degree from NDSU.
On May 19, 1925, she married
Snorri M. Thorfinnson in Fargo. They lived in Ravinia, S.D. for a couple of years. They then lived in Granville, N.D. for several years. They moved to Forman where they lived until 1947, when they moved to Lisbon. In 1962, they moved to Fort Ransom. In 1982, they moved to Red Lake Falls, Minn., and lived there for 15 years.
She is survived by three sons, Vaughn (Mildred) Thorfinnson, Red Lake Falls, Minn., Dr. Hugh Thorfinnson, Fort Ransom, and Bruce (Faith) Thorfinnson, Glenwood, Minn.; one daughter, Karen Thorfinnson, Frederick, Md.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Snorri M. Thorfinnson, who died January 22, 1986; two sons, Merle and Roger Thorfinnson; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the funeral were her grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Joan Montgomery and vocalists Kaia and Julie Thorfinnson.
Interment at Waldheim Cemetery, Kathryn.

Mary Ellen Opheim
Funeral services for Mary Ellen Opheim, 91, Enderlin, were held on Monday, May 6, 2002 at First Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Leon Zavadil officiated. Mrs. Opheim died on Friday, May 3, 2002 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.
Mary Ellen Lincoln, daughter of Herb and Kathryn (Paine) Lincoln, was born on March 1, 1911 in Wabasha, Minn. She graduated from Enderlin School in 1928.
On November 29, 1933, she married
Olaf Bernard Opheim. They lived in Enderlin throughout their marriage. Olaf died on March 7, 1989.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth (Larayne) Opheim, Fargo; one daughter, Judy (Dennis) Larson, Rapid City, S.D.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Olaf Opheim.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Brady Opheim, Trevor Opheim, Jack Armstrong, Steve Davidson, Gary Watne and Larry Muscha.
Music was provided by organist Verna Armstrong and soloist Jack Armstrong.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin.

Eleanor B. Allen
Funeral services for Eleanor B. Allen, 78, Wahpeton, were held on Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton. Reverend Randy Gehring officiated. Mrs. Allen died on Friday, May 3, 2002 at Innovis Health Center, Fargo.
Eleanor B. Myhre, daughter of Peder G. and Ida (Hackey) Myhre, was born on October 14, 1923 at Walcott, N.D. She graduated from Richland High School, Colfax, N.D., and later graduated from Minnesota State University, Moorhead, where she attained a degree in elementary education.
On August 14, 1948, she married
Wesley Allen at Walcott. The couple resided in Wahpeton. She taught school at Leonard, Antelope Consolidated, Lisbon, Breckenridge, Minn., and in the Wahpeton Public School System, retiring in 1984. She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Bethel Choir, Bethel Circle and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. They spent their summers at their lake home in Minnesota and winters in Lake Havasu, Ariz.
She is survived by her husband, Wesley Allen, Wahpeton; two daughters, Barbara (David) Hartmann, Sauk Centre, Minn., and Janet (Kim) Davis, Kalispell, Mont.; a twin sister, Evelyn (Palmer) Wigtil, Walcott; and a god child, Leann Toppen, rural Kindred. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Arthur and Gordon; two sisters, Viola Jorgenson and Ruby Swenson.
Interment at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

Ruth Siegel
Ruth Siegel, Enderlin, was buried Monday, April 29, after a graveside prayer service at Memory Gardens, rural Valley City.
Ruth (Potter) Siegel, known as Betty to friends and family, died at age 89 on March 6, 2002 in her home in Enderlin.
Rodney L. Manske
Funeral services for Rodney L. Manske, 51, Fargo, were held on Thursday, May 16, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson, Reverend David Killeen and Reverend Steve Thompson officiated. Mr. Manske died on Sunday, May 12, 2002 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo.
Rodney L. Manske, son of Henry J. and Betty Lou (Wickoren) Manske, was born on May 15, 1950, in Wahpeton. He attended school in McLeod and Lisbon, graduating from Lisbon in 1968. He was a member of the North Dakota National Guard from 1968 to 1974.
On July 30, 1972, he married
Brenda Hagen in Lisbon. He worked for Dahlgren Co. from 1968 to 1993. They lived in Lisbon until 1992, when they moved to Fargo. Since 1993, Rod has worked for McLaughlin Co. as the general manager of Valley Bus Co. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo. While living in Lisbon, Rod had been an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He also played on the McLeod softball team for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Manske, Fargo; one daughter, Amy Manske, Beach; one son, Jon Manske, Fargo; his mother, Betty Lou Manske, Lisbon; five brothers, Jerry (Jan) Manske, Hankinson, Kurt Manske, Lisbon, Roger (Vickie) Manske, West Fargo, Craig (Donna) Manske, Wahpeton, and Paul (Janice) Manske, Lisbon; one sister, Judy (Tim) Vongerud, Fargo; and his mother and father-in-law, Art and Evy Hagen, McLeod.
Pallbearers for the funeral were John Sveum, Monty Sveum, Nick Storhaug, Curt Hakanson, Wally Vollmers and Clint Devitt.
Music was provided by organist Cindy Hagel, with special music by Susan German and the Trinity Lutheran Choir and Reverend Steve Thompson.
Interment at Freeman Cemetery, McLeod.
