Marlys Campbell
A memorial service for Marlys Campbell, 63, Enderlin, was held on Monday, February 3, 2003 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Mrs. Campbell died on Thursday, January 30, 2003 in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Marlys Sundvall was born August 21, 1939 at her parents’ farm in Lake Eunice Township, Detroit Lakes, Minn. She attended grades 1-6 at Maple Grove country school and 7-12 at Detroit Lakes Junior and Senior High School in Detroit Lakes. She graduated in 1957.
In 1957, she married
Maynard Anderson and had three sons. She went to work at Sears in the credit department in 1969, and also worked briefly for Mandel’s Ready to Wear in the credit department. She started working for Gate City Savings and Loan in 1973, and worked there for 10 years.
In 1978, she married
Ron Campbell at Sisseton, S.D. Beginning in 1983, Marlys and Ron travelled south in the winters and stayed in North Dakota in the summers. They did this until 1990, at which time they bought a home in Streeter, N.D. Marlys went to work for the Gackle Care Center and quit there when her husband got transferred to Edgeley. They resided there for nine months and transferred to Ellendale. Marlys then went to work for the Ellendale Civic Association and later worked for the City of Ellendale until her retirement on June 1, 2002. Marlys and her husband moved to Enderlin.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Campbell, Enderlin; three sons, Terry (Alda) Anderson, Ellendale, Rich (Julie) Anderson, Horace, and Randy Anderson, Jefferson City, Mo.; five grandchildren; one brother, Ken (Karla) Sundvall, Nevis, Minn.; two step-sons, Mark (Cathy) Campbell, Wichita, Kan., and Greg (Heidi) Campbell, LIttle Rock, Ark.; and six step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter.

Esther Crawford
Funeral services for Esther Crawford, 95, Minneapolis, were held on Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo. Mrs. Crawford died on Thursday, January 30, 2003 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
Esther Highness, daughter of Alfred and Emma Highness, was born January 15, 1908 in Fort Ransom. She later taught country school near Fort Ransom. She moved to Minneapolis.
She married
George Crawford in Minneapolis. He died in 1983.
She is survived by one brother, Henry Highness, Fargo; one sister, Frances Kringle, Dubuque, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, George Crawford.
Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.

Bernie Anderson
Bernie Anderson, 77, Lisbon, died suddenly at his home on Thursday, February 20, 2003.
Bernie will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Mary, of 53 years; a daughter, Gail Gunderson, Columbus, Ohio; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Greg and Debbie, Rosemount, Minnesota; Marty and Liz, Edina, Minnesota; and three grandchildren, Jill, Brittany and Chris. Bernie is also survived by two sisters, Edna Anderson, Lisbon and Jeannette Schauer, Farmington, Minnesota.
Bernie was born January 28, 1926, at rural Enderlin and attended school there as well as at rural Lisbon. He and Mary were married
September 18, 1949 and enjoyed a wonderful marriage for more than 53 years.
Bernie was a dairy farmer for more than 35 years. He and his family showed holsteins at the Ransom County Fair and other livestock shows for many years. He served as director and president of the Ransom County Crop and Livestock Association for many years.
In 1975 he moved the family to Lisbon and began a life of community service. He served as state representative from 1976-1978. In 1980 he began driving the Senior Citizens’ bus for Ransom County. This job became his passion as he provided weekly transportation and friendship to many seniors in Ransom County. He and his wife, Mary, also became lively tour coordinators and conducted more than 200 memorable trips to places of interest in the Midwest. Bernie was very active in the Lisbon Senior Citizens’ organization, serving as Vice-President. He and Mary were honored as a special senior citizen couple of North Dakota in the early ‘90s.
Bernie provided leadership for many community projects including chairing the Lisbon Centennial in 1980. He provided counsel to many North Dakota communities as they planned their Centennial celebrations. He also coordinated parades for the Lisbon community for the past 27 years. Bernie was awarded the Distinguished Service award in 1993 by the Lisbon community.
Bernie had a special passion for Christmas and was often recognized for his innovative light displays.
Bernie was a long-time board member of the Parkside Nursing Home and served on the committee to build the existing residence. He was active in church activities at Trinity Lutheran Church including council and lutefisk suppers. Bernie shared his love of nature by planting trees and flowers throughout the communiity. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lillian; two brothers, Edward and Glenn and one sister, Esther Ringdahl.
Visitation was held at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, on Sunday afternoon, February 23, with a public prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday, February 24 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Norman Anderson and Pastor David Killeen officiating. Pallbearers included Elmer Lindstrom, Keith Raatz, Alan Nims, Sid Mairs, Frank Deis, Fritz Rotenberger, Terry Urbach, and Jim Peterson. Honorary pallbearers included Cleary Gunderson, Al Ceroni, Wayne Muilenburg, George Thompson, Willis Froemke, Cliff Lehmann, Walter Munkeby, Robert Ringdahl, and Dr. A.K. Lewis. Music for the service was provided by organist Jan Hansen, soloist Charlene Rondestvedt, and duet Burnell and Owen Trangsrud.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.
The family requests memorials be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church and Parkside Nursing Home, Lisbon. -
Charlotte B. Gessner
Funeral services for Charlotte Bernice Severson Gessner, 86, Valley City, were held on Saturday, February 22, 2003 at Epworth United Methodist Church, Valley City. Reverend Steve C. Johnson officiated. Mrs. Gessner died Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Charlotte Bernice Severson, daughter of Melvin and Anna (Halvorson) Severson, was born on March 6, 1916 at Lisbon. She graduated from high school in Enderlin and from Hairdressing School in Fargo. Charlotte and a close friend opened a beauty shop in Enderlin upon graduation.
On September 5, 1937, she married
Roland Edward Gessner in Enderlin. While living in Fargo, she worked as a hairdresser at DeLendrecies. When she and Rollie moved to Valley City in 1947 she worked for Farmers Union Co-op and was the secretary for Epworth United Methodist Church for many years. She was the United Methodist Women’s president two different terms. She was a member of PEO and past president of her chapter. She was also an avid volunteer for the hospital and Sheyenne Care Center and was active in numerous church activities and groups.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane (Ron) Sem, Wausau, Wis. and Janet (Ken, Jr.) Welken, Moorhead, Minn; two brothers, Donald (Lucille) Severson, Center City, Minn. and Garfield Severson, Alexandria, Minn.; and four grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Roland Gessner.
Interment at Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City in the spring.

Gladys M. Armbruster
Funeral services for Gladys Marie Armbruster, 63, Wheaton, Minn., were held on Monday, February 24, 2003 at St. John Lutheran Church, Wheaton, Minn. Reverend David Boehnke officiated. Mrs. Armbruster died February 20, 2003 at Traverse Care Center in Wheaton, Minn.
Gladys Marie Reupke, daughter of Fredrick and Cecelia Reupke, was born on May 4, 1939 in New Ulm. She grew up and attended school in Ortonville, Minn.
In 1962 she married
Wilbur Potter and was widowed in 1975. On March 26, 1976, Gladys was married
to Donald Armbruster. The couple resided in the Elbow Lake area until they moved to Wheaton in May of 1984.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Potter, Fargo, Douglas Downey, Willmar, Minn., and Bernard Potter, Washington; four daughters, Sara (Cedric) Sagadahl, Willmar, Minn., Donna (Greg) Everding, Fargo, Pattie Gerjets, Gwinner, and Stacy (Scott) Riedy, St. Cloud, Minn; seven brothers, Richard (Patty) Reupke, Colorado, Dennis (Lolita) Reupke, St. Louis, Mo., Roger Reupke, Minneapolis, Gene (Vickie) Reupke, Brooklyn Park, Minn., David (Mavis) Reupke, Mankato, Minn., Jerome (Lynn) Reupke, Jerry (Judy) Reupke, Vernon, Fla.; three sisters, Janice Gibbs, St. Charles, Mo., Pat (Merlin) Moser, Carlos, Minn., and Louise (Greg) Herling, Roseau, Minn.: and ten grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three nieces and one grandchild.
Pallbearers for the funeral were David Schmitz, Larry Mesenbrink, Scott Riedy, Greg Everding, Brian Ketterling, and Gerald Braaten.
Music was provided by organist Jay Lichtsinn and soloist Lynae Berger.

Alice Kringen
Funeral services for Alice Kringen, 71, Fargo, were held on Thursday, February 27, 2003 at Boulger Funeral Home Chapel, Fargo. Mrs. Kringen died Saturday, February 22, 2003 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Alice Larson, daughter of Elmer and Hilda Larson was born on August 13, 1931 in Minot. She grew up and attended school in Des Lacs, N.D. until moving to Minot in 1945. Alice graduated from Minot High School in 1949.
On December 8, 1951, she married
Herbert L. Kringen, in Rolla, N.D. She worked for Westlie Motors in Minot as a bookkeeper and at Don Moe Dodge in Minot. She then worked for Haas Chevrolet in Turtle Lake, N.D. for 20 years before retiring in 1995. Alice and Herbert had lived in Minot, Sheyenne, Edmond, Rolla, Parshall, Turtle Lake, and Tuttle, N.D. before coming to Fargo in 1994.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert Kringen, Fargo; mother, Hilda Larson, Rolla; two sons, Herb (Janie) Kringen, Bismarck, and Jon (Beth) Kringen, Enderlin; one daughter, Karol (Mark) Hetland, Custer, S.D.; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest (Ceil) Larson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Gladys (Dick) Pearce, Helena, Mont. and Inez (Maynard) Tinglestad, Grand Forks. She was preceded in death by her father, and a grandson.
Interment at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.

Betty A. Kaber
Funeral services for Betty A. Kaber, 73, Enderlin, were held on Friday, February 28, 2003, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Mike Toomey officiated. Mrs. Kaber died Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin under hospice care.
Betty A. King, daughter of Stanley and Betty (Hauge) King, was born on December 6, 1929 in Valley City. She attended Valley City schools.
On April 3, 1951, she married
George Kaber in Enderlin. Betty moved to Enderlin in 1950. She worked at the Grande Cafe. Betty and George owned and operated George’s Diner in Enderlin until 1983 when they retired. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by one son, Dale (Lori) Kaber, Enderlin; two daughters, Pamela (Curtis) Walker, Bismarck and Robin (Robert) Bratlie, Lisbon; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Robert (Nancy) King, Valley City. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Kaber, who died August 3, 1988; and a daughter, Debra.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Curtis Walker, Robert Bratlie, Clarence Langland, Brett Kaber, Nathan Bratlie, and Cody Walker.
Music was provided by organist Verna Armstrong and soloist Jack Armstrong.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin.

Bessie Veitch
Funeral services for Bessie Lorimer Veitch, 94, Bellingham, Wash., were held on Saturday, February 22, 2003 in Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Veitch died Monday, February 17, 2003 in Bellingham, Wash.
Bessie Lorimer, daughter of Mary Lorimer Key and Thomas Gow Lorimer was born on November 21, 1908 in Chicago, Ill. She was raised by Bessie and Wendell Lawrence in Crosby, N.D. from 1914. She graduated from Crosby High School in 1927 and from Minot St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1932.
On December 13, 1936, she married
Dr. Abner Veitch and widowed on April 6, 1982. She is survived by four sons, Robert (Leslie) Lorimer Veitch, Bellingham, Wash., John (Mary Ellen) Veitch, Alburquerque, N.M.James (Marilyn) Veitch, Karalee, Australia, and Tom (Gayle) Veitch, Minneapolis; one daughter, Margaret Ranes, Seattle, Wash.; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
