Alvie A. Kronbeck
Funeral services for Alvie A. Kronbeck, 88, Fargo, were held on Friday, March 28, 2003 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Fargo. Mr. Kronbeck died Sunday, March 23, 2003 at home under the care of Hospice.
Alvie A. Kronbeck, son of Aaron and Ethel (Daugherty) Kronbeck was born on December 20, 1914 near Hawley, Minn. He grew up and attended school in the area. He worked for area farmers. He later formed the Civil Conservation Corp. in Minneapolis and later in Washington. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and was discharged on November 14, 1945. He was an ambulance driver during W.W.II
On February 9, 1944, he married Esther Bergseid in Hawley, Minn. After his military service, they moved to Michigan and then returned to Hawley. Alvie worked as a butcher for Carlson’s IGA Store in Hawley. He later went to work at John Morrell Packing Plant, Fargo. He worked there for 30 years, retiring in November of 1979. After retirement, he was a security guard at the I-94 Minnesota Visitors Center near Moorhead. He as a lifetime member of the V.F.W. in Moorhead.
He is survived by his wife, Esther, Fargo; one son, Alvie (Sharon) Kronbeck, Jr. Kronbeck, Snohmish, Wash.; three daughters, Annetta (Kenneth) Haugen, Verona, Alice (Nathan) Ford II, Seattle, Wash., and Evonne Muchow, Federal Way, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; one brother, Alvon Kronbeck, Moorhead; one sister Jeanette (Raymond) Frescher, Canyon Lake, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Aaron Joseph Kronbeck, granddaughter, Hollie, great-grandson, Anthony, brothers, Clarence Kronbeck and Everett Kronbeck, and sisters, Mabel, Esther and Hazel.
Interment at Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead, Minn.
Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, was in charge of arrangements.

Albert A. Johnson
Funeral services for Albert A. Johnson, 95, Milnor, N.D., were held on Wednesday, March 26, 2003. Reverend Arthur Larson officiated. Mr. Johnson died Thursday, March 20, 2003 at the Lisbon Area Health Services in Lisbon.
Albert A. Johnson, son of Amund and Syneva (Fladaboe) Johnson was born on September 17, 1907 near McLeod. He grew up and attended school in McLeod. After his school, he farmed in the area with his family. On February 7, 1942, Albert entered the United States Army serving his country during W.W. II in the Aleutian Islands. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. During the Battle of the Bulge, the Germans captured Albert’s Company and he was held a prisoner of war for 106 days, before being rescued by his brother’s company. After being honorably discharged on October 19, 1945, he returned home and began farming with his brother William in the Milnor area. Albert and William continued to farm in the area until their retirement in the early 1970s, when they moved into Milnor. Albert entered the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon in November of 1999. He was a member of the Milnor Lutheran Church, the V.F.W. Post in McLeod and a member of the Legion Post in Milnor.
He is survived by one sister, Olive Wickoren, Lisbon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and five sisters.
Pallbearers for the funeral were David Johnson, Clayton Johnson, Steve Erickson, Alton Erickson, Arlo Sandvig, and Dean Sandvig. Honorary pallbearers will be Allison Holmrast, Edwin Erickson, Dale Bludorn, and Leonard Hanschen.
Special music was provided by Carol Ydstie.
Hauge Memorial V.F.W. Post #9067 from McLeod and the Smith-Thune American Legion Post #148 from Milnor presented military rites.
Interment at Freeman Cemetery, rural McLeod.
Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Milnor, was in charge of arrangements.

Roger Adolfs
Funeral services for Roger Adolfs, 73, Warba, Minn., were held on Monday, March 24, 2003 at the Warba Presbyterian Church in Warba, Minn. Reverend Joe Smith officiated. A second funeral service was held Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Lisbon. Mr. Adolfs died Thursday, March 20, 2003 at his home.
Roger Adolfs, son of George and Libby (Koss) Adolfs was born on November 18, 1929 in Elliott. He attended school in Englevale. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a member of the Ponti-Peterson V.F.W. in Grand Rapids, Minn.
On May 22, 1953, he married Darlene Erickson in Lisbon. He had been a resident of the Goodland-Warba area for the past 49 years. He worked for the Itasca County Road and Bridge Department for 32 years, retiring in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Adolfs, Warba; two sons, Kevin Adolfs, Gilbert, Minn., and Darren (Patty) Adolfs, Lake Orion, Mich.; two daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Zgonc, Rogers, Ariz., and LuAnn (Alan) Roberts, Cloquet, Minn.; four grandchildren; one brother, LeRoy (Rosemary) Adolfs, Duluth, Minn.; one sister, Helen Erickson, Coos Bay, Ore.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon in the spring of 2003.
Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, Minn. was in charge of arrangements.

Orin J. Hammer
Funeral services for Orin J. Hammer, 90, Fort Ransom, N.D., were held on Monday, March 24, 2003 at Preston Lutheran Church, Fort Ransom. Reverend David Carlson officiated. Mr. Hammer died Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Orin J. Hammer, son of Hilmer and Martha (Lund) Hammer was born on February 28, 1913, at rural Fort Ransom. He attended rural Fort Ransom school.
On June 24, 1950, he married Edith Rufsvold in Fort Ransom. They farmed near Fort Ransom.
He is survived by one son, Myron (Jane) Hammer, Kathryn; one granddaughter; and three sisters, Gladys Hammer, Lisbon, Ruth (Emerald) Erickson, Woodinville, Wash., and Mae (Lloyd) Ruesch, Grants Pass, Ore.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Gary Anderson, Richard Birklid, Leland, Hanson, Keenan Lund, Jerry Olson, and Kermit Sorby.
Music was provided by organist Iverne Birklid and special music by Ardell and Terry Grothe.
Interment at Preston cemetery, rural Fort Ransom.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.

Carrie A. Johnson
Funeral services for Carrie A. Johnson, 93, Hawley, were held on Friday, March 28, 2003 at Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley. Pastor Jerry Protextor and Pastor Paul Luecke officiated. Mrs. Johnson died Sunday, March 23, 2003 at her home.
Carrie A. Hansen, daughter of Soren and Annie (Michelson) Hansen was born on June 13, 1909 at Onaka, S.D. She moved to Hawley at a very young age to a farm southwest of Hawley. She attended country school #20. She attended two years at Hawley High School. Following school she worked in Fargo.
On October 31, 1930, she married Algot Johnson. They settled at Prosper, N.D. where they farmed and later moved to Fargo. In the fall of 1944 they moved to a farm west of Hawley where they raised their family. Algot died in 1974.
She is survived by five sons, Russell (Karen) Johnson, Dundas, Minn., Roger (Jeannie) Johnson, Bloomington, Minn., Paul Johnson, Hawley, Gary Johnson, Hawley, and Darrell Johnson, Hawley; seven daughters, Marie Holm, Hawley, Marjorie (Marvis) Thompson, Perley, Minn., Janet (Vern) Crabtree, Hawley, Diane (Harlan) Hovelson, Hawley, Virginia (Fran) Mougey, Enderlin, Frances (Bill) Richter, Glyndon, Minn., Katherine (Ken) Dahl, Hawley; 34 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd (Irene) Hanson, Moorhead, and Harry (Evelyn) Hansen, Hawley; three sisters, Mae Weaver and Inger Robertson, Hawley, and Elizabeth (Elmer) Marweg, Perham, Minn., one sister-in-law, Aagot Hansen. She was preceded in death by her husband Algot Johnson, infant son, William, her parents and her brother Charlie.
Pallbearers were Chuck Anderson, Randy Crabtree, Eric Dahl, Mark Holm, Duane Hovelson, David Johnson, Russ Johnson, Steven Tangen, and Kevin Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Carrie’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren
Music was provided by organist Helen Olson and soloist Ramona Kuehl.
Interment at Hawley Cemetery, Hawley, Minn.

Dale W. Mairs
Funeral services for Dale W. Mairs, 77, Lisbon, were held on Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson and Reverend David Killeen officiated. Mr. Mairs died Thursday, March 20, 2003 at Lisbon.
Dale W. Mairs, son of Ray and Fern (Hand) Mairs was born on March 6, 1926 in rural Lisbon. He attended school in rural Lisbon. He served in the occupational armed services in Japan following W.W.II.
On November 21, 1948, he married Betty Lou Thompson in Lisbon. They operated a dairy and grain farm near Lisbon until retiring in 1986. During that time Dale received the North Dakota Jaycees award for Outstanding Young Farmer and also had the highest North Dakota DHIA producing dairy herd. They then enjoyed winters in Queen Valley, Ariz, until Dale’s illness in September 2001. They moved into Lisbon in 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Mairs; three sons, Randy (Susan) Mairs, Lisbon, Loren (Sue) Mairs, Edinburg, N.D., and Kirk (Janet) Mairs, Fargo; seven children; three brothers, Herbert (Clarice) Lisbon, Sidney (Shirley) Lisbon, and Curtis Mairs, Lisbon; and one sister, Mildred Lambrecht, Lisbon. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Terry Michael Mairs, two brothers, Russell Mairs and Willard Mairs, and one sister, Grace Woodbeck.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Wayne Freeberg, David Nelson, Jim Radcliffe, Tom Ose, Dean Mairs, and Rick Mairs.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hansen and soloist Brad Lambrecht. Special music by Alan and Julie Qual.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon

Elsie C. Kopp
Funeral services for Elsie C. Kopp, 91, Lisbon, were held on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, N.D. Reverend Norman Anderson officiated. Mrs. Kopp died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Parkside Nursing Home in Lisbon.
Elsie C. Kolsrud, daughter of Henry and Holga (Holter) Kolsrud was born on June 9, 1911 at Hastings, N.D. She attended school in rural Hastings.
In 1926, she married Leonard Kopp in Kathryn. They farmed near Kathryn. They moved to Englevale where they operated the bar. In 1939 Elsie moved to Lisbon. She worked at Hank’s Drive-In, ND Veterans Home, Lisbon Creamery, owned and operated Elsie’s Drive-In and worked at Lisbon Area Health Services. She was a 50 year member of the VFW Auxiliary and volunteered at the Veterans Home and Parkside Home.
She is survived by four sons, Leon (Verlon) Kopp, Yuma, Ariz., Clint Kopp, West Fargo, Loren (Nancy) Kopp, Escondido, Calif., and Dallas (Beth) Kopp, Grand Forks; one daughter, Betty Galbreath, Enderlin; 18 grandchildren 28 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vivian, one grandson, and one great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers for the funeral were John Anderson, Keith Bartholomay, Danny Galbreath, Ryan Galbreath, Mark Kopp, and Robert Kopp.
Music was provided by organist Mary Jo Smith and soloist Joan Montgomery.
Interment at Hastings Cemetery, Hastings, N.D.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.
