Bernie H. Hanson
Funeral services for Bernie H. Hanson, 78, Lisbon, were held on Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson and Reverend David Killeen officiated. Mr. Hanson died Friday, May 23, 2003 at Parkside Home, Lisbon.
Bernie H. Hanson, son of Bernie and Silvie (Arendts) Hanson was born on July 29, 1924 in rural Lisbon. He attended school in rural Lisbon and Lisbon High School. Bernie served in the U.S. Army.
On July 12, 1945, he married
Faye E. Thomte in Lisbon. She died May 30, 1998. Bernie worked for Red Owl Food Distribution, Grandadam Trucking, Mobil Oil Distribution and Ranes Motors. He became General manager at Ranes Motors. After he retired Bernie worked part-time at Island Park Motel and Lisbon Oil. Bernie was a member of Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited where he had served as treasurer. Bernie was also a member of the Eagles, Masons, American Legion, Kiwanis, and Lisbon Volunteer Fire Dept.
He is survived by one son, Barry Hanson, Fargo; three daughters, Sharon (Art) Pederson, York, N.D., Sandra (Douglas) Norby, Grand Forks, and Brenda (Robert) Hodney, Grand Forks; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Stella Kappel, Lisbon, and Alice Muilenburg, Uniontown, Pa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Hanson, one grandson, and one brother, Robert D. Hanson.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Laurel Gamache, Bill Sullivan, Wayne Freeberg, Tom Ose, Matt Norby, and Tom Letrud. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Swanson, Curt Brekke, Gordon Letrud, and Jerry Thomte.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hansen and soloist Charlene Rondestvedt.
Interment at Zion Cemetery, rural Lisbon.

Martha G. Rognaldson
Private family services for Martha G. Rognaldson, 99, Everett, Wash., were held. Mrs. Rognaldson died Saturday, May 21, 2003 at South Point Assisted Living Care Facility, Everett, Wash.
Martha G. Olson, daughter of William and Nellie Olson was born on October 26, 1903. She was the eldest of eight children. She is survived by one son, Vernon Rognaldson, Everett, Wash.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and one brother Raymond Olson, Lisbon. She was preceded in death by her husband Harley Rognaldson.

Irene S. Bjorkman
Funeral services for Irene Bjorkman, 92, Madison, S.D. were held on Thursday, April 24, 2003 at Madison United Methodist Church. Reverend Marilyn Spurell officiated. Mrs. Bjorkman died Monday, April 21, 2003 at Madison Community Hospital.
She is survived by four nieces and nephews, Betty Ann Tufty, Lisbon, Carol Hammer, Madison, Floyd A. (Vonnie) Hammer, Mesa, Ariz., and Eugene A. (Kelly) Johnson, Huron, S.D.; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Curtis Tufty, Gwinner and Brad Wilhelmi, Lisbon were among the pallbearers.
Interment at Spring Lake Covenant Cemetery, rural Arlington.

Stanley S. Ellingson
Funeral services for Stanley S. Ellingson, 99, Fargo, were held on Monday, June 30, 2003 at the Hickson Lutheran Church, Hickson, N.D. Mr. Ellingson died Monday, june 23, 2003 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Stanley S. Ellingson was born on November 30, 1903 at Milford, iowa. In 1906 he moved with his family to the “sand prairie” in the Fort Ransom - Kathryn area. He attended country school at rural Kathryn. He went to school at the Hanson Mechanical Trade School in Fargo and drove maintainer for Ransom County. In 1927, he moved with his parents to rural Hickson.
On June 19, 1932, he married
Luella Egge at the North Pleasant Lutheran Church, rural Hickson. In 1939, he bought a farm near Christine, N.D. and farmed there until 1961, when he and Luella moved to Wolverton, Minn. In 1995, they moved to Riverview Place in Fargo and in May of 2001, they moved to the Evergreens in south Fargo. Stanley had served on the Walcott Township Board and was a member, board officer and president of the Hickson Lutheran Church Congregation. He served on the Wolverton Volunteer Fire Department for twenty years and had served as board member and president of the WMSTR. He and his brother played with the Bonanza Steamers at area rest homes.
He is survived by one son, Hartley (Erna) Ellingson, Christine; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Orville (Mae) Ellingson, Moorhead, and Grant (Doris) Ellingson, Yuma, Ariz. He was preceded in death by wife wife, Luella Ellingson, brother, Carl, sister, Louise Braaten, and great grandson, James Morken.
Interment at North Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hickson.

Arnold Spiekermeier
Funeral services for Arnold Spiekermeier, 85, West Fargo, formerly Sheldon, were held on Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sheldon. A memorial Service was held Wednesday 18, 2003 at Cooperative Living in West Fargo. Father John Fallon officiated. Mr. Spiekermeier died Saturday, June 14, 2003 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo.
Arnold Spiekermeier, son of Joseph and Leona (Blint) Spiekermeier was born on July 4, 1917 in rural Sheldon. He attended Sheldon School.
On September 16, 1940, he married
Kathryn Sorenson, in Sheldon. They farmed near Sheldon from 1940-1959. In 1959 they moved into Sheldon where they owned and operated Center Grocery. They moved to Tucson in 1976. In 2001 they moved to West Fargo. Arnold had served as the Sheldon mayor, Ransom County commissioner, and served on the Sheldon School Board and St. Mary’s Catholic Church council.
He is survived by one son, Doug (Alice) Spiekermeier, Pelican Rapids, Minn.; three daughters, Donna (Lloyd) Redmond, Hot Springs, Mont., Linda (Dennis) Bjugstad, West Fargo, and Becky (Dennis) Radtke, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gen Marsden, Hillsboro, N.D.
Honorary pallbearers for the funeral were his grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Carole Bjugstad and soloist Derin Bjugstad.

David R. Edison
Funeral services for David R. Edison, 74, Milnor, were held on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at Milnor Lutheran Church, Milnor, N.D. Reverend Jerry Carlson officiated. Mr. Edison died Friday, June 13 at MeritCare Hospital under Hospice care.
David R. Edison, son of John and Maggie (Sturdevant) Edison was born on November 7, 1928 at Milnor. He lived his entire life in the community of Milnor and graduated from Milnor High School in 1946.
In 1949, he married
Karen Schutt, in Webster, S.D. David, his father and brothers and later David’s sons, operated Edison Motors, the Milnor Ford Dealership for over 50 years. David was active in Milnor city government and served as a church and city council member. He was instrumental in Milnor’s efforts to build a swimming pool in the 60s and a new high school.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Edison, Milnor; one daughter, Lisa Edison-Smith (Greg Smith), Fargo; five sons, Dave (Betty), Edison, Apple Valley, Minn., Randy (Carol) Edison, Milnor, Brent (Jaci) Edison, Bismarck, Lex (LaDawn Warner) Edison, Chaska, Minn., and Chris (Carrie) Edison, Bismarck, 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest (Agnes) Edison, Golden Valley, Minn; and mother-in-law, Hanna Schutt. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edwin.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Marlyn Bogart, Ray Carlson, Charles Ellefson, Gene Holmgren, Harlan Klefstad, Tim Larson, and Hap McCleery.
Music was provided by organist Carol Ydstie and vocalists Bob Schutt and Pam Schutt.
Interment at Lakeside Cemetery, Milnor.

Geraldine A. Brekke
Funeral services for Geraldine A. Brekke, 76, Devils Lake, N.D., were held on Friday, June 20, 2003 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, N.D. Father Joseph Christensen officiated. Mrs. Brekke died Monday, June 16, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Geraldine A. Hughes, daughter of Joseph and Alice (Kearney) Hughes was born on May 24, 1927 in Boston, Mass.
On July 9, 1945, she married
Curtis E. Brekke in Quincy, Mass. They lived in the Boston area while Curtis served in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge, they relocated to North Dakota. They lived in Lisbon, Grand Forks and Panorama City, Calif. before moving to Devils Lake in 1963.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis Brekke, Sr.; two sons, Curtis (Karla) Brekke, Jr., Prior Lake, Minn. and Robert (Lori) Brekke, Littleton, Colo.; two daughters, Gail Brekke, Woodbridge, Conn., and Pam Brekke, Grand Forks; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Ruth Bigelow.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Chaun Keating, Christopher Keating, Mark Otterson, Tom Traynor, Rick LaFleur and Doug Goulding. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Roger Brekke, Ken Thompson, Allan Thompson, Gene Nicholas and Cliff Axtman.
Interment at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Devils Lake.

Laura P. Green
Funeral services for Laura P. Green, 93, Enderlin, were held on Saturday, June 21, 2003 at First Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Leon Zavadil officiated. Mrs. Green died Monday, June 16, 2003 at her home in Enderlin.
Laura P. Sund, daughter of Andrew and Mary (Nelson) Sund was born on July 16, 1909 in rural Cleveland, N.D. She attended rural Cleveland School and Cleveland High School. Laura received her teaching certificate from Valley City University.
On December 26, 1931, she married
Marvie J. Green in Jamestown. He died November 8, 1992. Laura taught school in rural Cleveland, N.D. They lived and farmed near Enderlin until retiring in 1973. They moved into Enderlin in 1987. Laura served as an election judge and was a 4-H leader.
She is survived by two daughters, Laura Mae Davidson, Enderlin and Rose-Mary Strom, Moorhead; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and seven siblings.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Steve Davidson, Randy Davidson, Bob Davidson, Rick Davidson, Matt Strom, Dan Busby, Paul Wadeson, and David Domm
Music was provided by organist Verna Armstrong and vocalists Burnell and Owen Trangsrud.
