Muriel L. Roden
Funeral services for Muriel L. Roden, 82, McLeod, N.D., were held on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon. Father Andrew Dudzinski and Reverend Wayne Quibell officiated. Mrs. Roden died Saturday, May 17, 2003 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo.
Muriel L. Carlson, daughter of John and Anna (Youngquist) Carlson was born on March 26, 1921 at McLeod, N.D. She attended school in rural McLeod, McLeod, Wyndmere and Delamere schools. She was in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946.
On December 23, 1956, she married George Roden in Queens, N.Y. They lived in Queens, N.Y. where Muriel worked at Mergantheler, Co. They moved to McLeod in December of 1994. They were members of Wakefield Senior Citizens in New York.
She is survived by her husband, George Roden; four sisters, Doris Olson, Everett, Wash., Janice (Irwin) Caswell, Lidgerwood, Joyce (John) Young, Byron, Minn., and Shirley Skillings, Seattle, Wash. She was preceded in death by one brother, Gordon and one sister, Dorothy.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Danny Caswell, Irwin Cassell, Jr., Clark Caswell, Duane Carlson, John Carlson, and Curt Rudolph.
Special music was provided by Brenda Manske.
Interment at Freeman Cemetery, McLeod.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Ervin Rudolph
Funeral services for Reverend Ervin Rudolph, 82, Watertown, were held on Monday, May 5, 2003 at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Watertown, S.D. Reverend Roger Spahr, Dist. Superintendent Reverend Gene Kroger, and Reverend Sam Graf officiated. Reverend Rudolph died Thursday, May 1, 2003 in a Sioux Falls, S.D. hospital
Ervin Rudolph, son of John and Caroline (Hoff) was born on October 25, 1920 in Napoleon. He attended country school near his home, graduated from Napoleon High School and Westmar College in LaMars, Iowa.
On June 15, 1945, he married Velma C. Bunse at Cosby, Mo. Ervin attended Evangelical Theological Seminary in Naperville, Ill. where he obtained his theological degree. He was ordained in Bowbells, N.D. on May 17, 1947 and began serving churches in Hazen, McClusky and Elgin, N.D., (Eldena, Ill, while he was in seminary) Drake and Sheldon, N.D. and Big Stone City, S.D. Reverend Rudolph served the church in Sheldon and Enderlin from 1956-1962. Reverend Rudolph retired in 1983 and moved to Watertown, where he was involved in pulpit supply and interim pastorate in the Watertown area. He was a member of the Dakota United Methodist Conference, Kiwanis Club and was active in volunteer work.
He is survived by his wife, Velma Rudolph, Watertown; three sons, Bruce (Mary) Rudolph, Centennial, Colo., Dennis (Deanna) Rudolph, Billings, Mont., and Rodell (Shelly) Rudolph, Longmont, Colo.; six grandchildren; one sister, Edna (Tom) Aberle, Napoleon; one brother, Harry and Charlotte Rudolph, Northglenn, Colo.; two half-brothers, Emil (Hilda) Rudolph, Folsom, Calif. and Julius Rudolph, Napoleon. He was preceded in death by his parents, six half brothers, John, George, William, Arthur, Edward and Jack, and three half sisters, Magthalina, Katie and Mary.
Wight and Comes Funeral Chapel, Watertown, S.D., was in charge of arrangements.

Viola R. Olson
Funeral services for Viola R. Olson, 100, St. Louis Park, Minn., were held on Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Anoka, Minn. Reverend Adrian Piotrowski officiated. Mrs. Olson died Sunday, May 4, 2003 at Texas Terrace Care Center, St. Louis Park, Minn.
Viola Rose Penberthy, daughter of William and Rose (Sullivan) Penberthy was born on June 27, 1902 in Slayton, Minn. She was a retired inspector from Sears and Roebuck.
She is survived by four daughters, Lois (Berton) Atkinson, Joyce Hansen, Gladys Mosell and Kay (Dwight) Skinner;12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren eight great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Merle Lystad and Alice Trainer; one brother Joe Penberthy. She was preceded in death by an infant son, John William, sons-in-law, Joe Mosell and Earl Hansen, parents, brothers, William, Allen, Lawrence, Leo, Walt, sisters, Gladys Kaspari and Margaret Bixby.
Pallbearers for the funeral were her seven grandsons.
Interment at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka, Minn.
Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka, Minn., was in charge of arrangements.

Arthur R. Carlson
Funeral services for Arthur R. Carlson, 52, Rutland, N.D., were held on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at the Nordland Lutheran church, Rutland. Reverend Jerry Carlson officiated. Mr. Carlson died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at his home in Rutland.
Arthur Robert Carlson, son of Robert and Joyce (Jacobson) Carlson was born on June 16, 1951 at Britton, S.D. He grew up on the family farm near Rutland. He graduated from Sargent Central high School in 1969. After completing his education, Arthur worked at Melroe Manufacturing of Gwinner for six months. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 3, 1969 and served for two and a half years. He was stationed in Thailand. During his tour of duty, Arthur was injured and later received a medical discharge from military service.
He is survived by his mother, Joyce Carlson, Forman; two brothers, Clifford (Char) Carlson, Rutland, Edwin Carlson, Horace; four sisters, Dorene (Jack) Brown, Gwinner, Rosemarie (Wayne) Sebens, Milnor, Karen (Jerry) Christianson, Rutland, Helen (John) Banish, Cayuga; a step-sister, Mary Raines, Farmington, Pa; 12 nieces and 8 nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Carlson and a step-brother, John Pires.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Boyd Jacobson, Jr., Calvin Jacobson, Joe Butler, Stuart Carlson, Todd Ellestad, Tim Ellestad and Darrell Ellestad. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Arthur’s many friends.
Military Honors will be presented by Veteran's of Foreign War Post #9069, Gwinner.
Music was provided by organist Janet Kiefer and soloist Emily Banish.
Interment at Rutland Cemetery

Loyola A. Tayer
Funeral services for Loyola A. Tayer, 67, Milnor, were held on Monday, July 28, 2003 at Milnor Lutheran Church, Milnor. Reverend Jerry Carlson officiated. Mrs. Tayer died Thursday, July 24, 2003 at Manor Care Health Service in Fargo.
Loyola A, Schonhoff, daughter of William and Agnes (Sauers) Schonhoff was born on August 27, 1935 at Breckenridge, Minn. She was baptized on September 15, 1935, and confirmed on Jun 14, 1949. She attended received her early education at Sydna Rural School, then attended Catholic School in Lisbon and graduated from Milnor High School in 1953.
She was united in marriage to James Kratcha, September 6, 1956. They made their home in Milnor, where Loyola was employed for the R.S.R. Electric Company.
On September 13, 1973, she married Duane Tayer. Over the years, Loyola also worked for the Eagles in Fargo and Tayer Plumbing and Heating in Milnor. Loyola was a member of the Milnor Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, Duane Tayer, Milnor; six sons, Donald (Marie) Kratcha, Hankinson, Rick Kratcha, Gwinner, Roger Kratcha, Gwinner, Tim Tayer, Milnor, Kraig (Kellie) Tayer, Cleveland, Ohio, Brian (Paula) Tayer, Milnor; four daughters, Debbe (Steve Kratcha/Ellefson, Milnor, Paulette (Gary) Lien, Milnor, Carolyn (Laverne) Colby, Milnor, and Barb (Glen) Koeppe, Milnor; twenty-five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald (Marion) Schonhoff, Milnor; three sisters, Rosella (Jim) Levin, Springfield, Mo., Mary (Ed) Johnson, Duluth, Minn., and Monica (Jim) Staudt, Hartselle, Ala.; one sister-in-law, Dorothy (E. Clair) Halvorson, Milnor. She was preceded in death by her parents and two grandsons.
Pallbearers for the funeral were grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Carol Ydstie and soloist Patty Ellefson.
Interment at Milnor Lutheran cemetery.

Dorothy E. Smith
Memorial services for Dorothy E. Smith, 89, Medford, Ore., were held on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at Memory Gardens Mortuary in Medford. Pastor Jim Larsen of Ashland Christian Church officiated. Mrs. Smith died Sunday, July 6, 2003 at her home at Northridge Center, Medford.
Dorothy Edith Hanna, daughter of Robert and Louise (Brown) Hanna was born on March 12, 1914 in McLeod, N.D.
On December 12, 1944, she married Roy A. Smith in Vancouver, Wash. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947 from North Dakota. Mrs. Smith was a nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital and Providence Medford Community Hospital, working nearly 40 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Medford Eagles Lodge. He died in 2001.
She is survived by one stepson, Alvin Smith, Medford; one stepdaughter, Elsie Williams, Medford; a half-brother, Roger Hanna, Yakima, Wash.; three sisters, Audrey Groebner, Albuquerque, N.M., Ada Stewart, Lisbon, and Wilma Halstead, Carmen, Manitoba, Canada; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Inurnment at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford, Ore., was in charge of arrangements.

Glenn Dorr
Funeral services for Glenn Dorr, 57, Milnor, were held on Thursday, July 31, 2003 at the Milnor Lutheran Church. Reverend Jerry Carlson officiated. Mr. Dorr died Monday, July 28, 2003 at his home under hospice care.
Glenn Dorr son of John and Alma (Rudolf) Dorr was born on June 13, 1946 in Jamestown. He grew up and graduated from high school in Gackle, N.D. and later attended area colleges, graduating with an education degree from Valley City State University. Glenn taught school in Selfridge, N.D. and was the principal and a teacher at Karlsruhe, N.D. He earned his Master’s Degree from Valley City State University. In 1979, Glenn moved to Milnor, where he was the principal, social studies teacher, and athletic director.
On May 7, 1983, he married Lucille Schultz in Fargo. Over the years Glenn coached basketball, football, and track, was a bus driver, and was a fundamental part of getting the Milnor Track Complex accomplished. He was also active in the community and the local area, serving on the Satellite Club, city council, Bison Booster club, President of the Wild Rice Conference, on the Dollars for Scholars Committee. He was also recognized as District, Regional, and State Athletic Director of the Year in 1998. Glen retired in 2000, where he farmed for area friends and worked with the Sargent County Weed Board. He also filled the vacancy for principal and teacher for the Wyndmere Public Schools in Wyndmere in 2001 and 2002. He was a member of the Milnor Lutheran Church and served on the church council, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school.
He is survived by his wife Lu, Milnor; three sons, Chris (Laurie) Hehn, and Chad (Jacque) Hehn, all of Kindred, and Mark Kraft, Bismarck; three daughters, Vickie (Marlin) Krump, Hankinson, Kimberly (Jason) Gooding, Milnor, and Amanda Door, Wahpeton; his mother, Alma, Wishek; one brother, Douglas, Wishek, and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, and two infant twin brothers.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Jerome Johnson, Gary Jenson, Jerry Schwan, Bruce Dougherty, Bruce Hackey, Bruce Schumacker, Don Warren, and Richard Anderson.
Special music was provided by Jonathan and Carol Ydstie. Bill Popp gave the eulogy.
Interment at Milnor Lutheran Cemetery.

Lorraine M. Weiler
Funeral services for Lorraine M. Weiler, 73, Mayville, N.D., were held on Saturday, August 2, 2003 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Mayville. Mrs. Weiler died Monday, July 28, 2003 in Mayville.
Lorraine M. Kopach, daughter of Michael and Olga (Tovson) Kopach was born on January 7, 1930 in Fargo. She grew up in Fargo and attended school there.
On October 8, 1949, she married F.S. Weiler, who grew up in Lisbon, in Fargo. The Weilers made home in Moorhead, Grafton, N.D., Bemedji, Minn.., Prescott, Ariz. and Brawley, Calif., before coming to Mayville to own and operate Weiler’s Jewelry. Lorraine and her sister, Betty opened “A Quaint Place” a gift and novelty shop that they operated until she retired.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, Scott (Julie) Weiler, West Bloomfield, Mich., James Weiler, Shreveport, La., and Ross (Carol) Weiler, Grand Forks; two grandchildren; two sisters, Marie (Tom) Gleason, St. John’s Newfoundland, Canada and Betty Stensgard, Fargo. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Interment at Lisbon Cemetery, Lisbon, N.D.
