Kenneth Lemna
Funeral services for Kenneth “Bud” Lemna, 76, Kentland, Ind., were held on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Rob Bernotas officiated. Mr. Lemna died Saturday, July 19, 2003 at his home.
Kenneth Lemna, son of Lawrence and Margaret (Linzbach) Lemna was born on February 14, 1927 at Lisbon. He attended school in Lisbon and Buttzville.
On November 6, 1954, he married
Helen Peterson, in Enderlin. They moved to Indiana where he worked for Supercrast and Grast Seed Corn Co. until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, three sons, Brian Lemna, New York City, Bradley Lemna, Minneapolis, and Keith Lemna, Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Leo (Mary) Lemna, Dennis (Becky) Lemna, and Robert (Kathy) Lemna, all of Enderlin; seven sisters, Helen (Harold) Tellinghusen, Rapids City, S.D., Doris Schultz, Lisbon, Peg (Don) Chesley, Enderlin, Joyce (Erv) Wegschied, Perham, Minn., Donna (Bob) Ikelman, Dixon, Calif., Darlene Frederick, Bismarck, Carol (Ted) Buschette, Mahnomen, Minn.; brother-in-law Don Kuhn, Sauk Centre, Minn.; sister-in-law Phyllis (Ray) Barnick, Enderlin. Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and two brother-in-laws.
Interment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Kentland, Ind.

Scott A. Dalziel
Funeral services for Scott A. Dalziel, 41, Devils Lake, N.D., were held on Monday, July 28, 2003 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Reverend Jamie Desai officiated. Mr. Dalziel died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at his home in rural Devils Lake.
Scott Alexander Dalziel, son of Dale and Yvonne (Gemar) Dalziel was born on March 2, 1962 in Valley City. He was reared and educated in Edmore and Devils Lake. Scott graduated from Devils Lake Central High School in the class of 1980. He graduated from Lake Region State College, Devils Lake and received his degree from Mayville State College in Business Management.
On September 14, 1984, he married
Jill Anne Schaack in Devils Lake where they established their home. They moved to Lakota, N.D. where Scott worked for Lake Region Credit Union later returning to Devils Lake where he worked for Farm Credit Services. He was working with Investment Centers in Cando and Devils Lake, since October 16, 1995 at the time of his death. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Devils Lake Elks Lodge where he was a past Exalted Ruler and was now chairman of the Board of Trustees.
He is survived by his wife, Jill Dalziel, one son, Andrew Dalziel, at home; one daughter, Victoria Dalziel, at home; parents, Dale and Yvonne Dalziel, Mesa, Ariz.; one brother, Todd (Beverly) Dalziel, Devils Lake, grandmothers, Marjorie Dalziel, Victoria, B.C., Canada and Ethel Gemar, Verona. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Gordon Dalziel and Edward Gemar.
Interment at Devils Lake Cemetery, Devils Lake.

C. Jerome Johnson
Funeral services for C. Jerome Johnson, 80, Wadena, were held on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wadena. Mr. Johnson died Saturday, July 5, 2003 in the Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.
C. Jerome Johnson, son of Henry and Cornelia (Sundet) Johnson was born on September 24, 1922 in Fort Ransom. Jerry was a 1940 graduate of Lisbon High School. In November 1942 he entered the U.S. Army. After basic training he was sent to Washington State to work for Boeing Aircraft until 1943 when he was transferred to the U. of North Dakota, Grand Forks, for a program in Radio and Repair. He then served overseas in New Guinea and the Philippines from 1943 to 1946. After returning from the war he enrolled at Valley City State University and eventually transferred to the Indiana Institute of Mortuary Sciences, graduating in 1949. Once he received his mortuary license in 1950 he began work at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo.
On June 3, 1951 he married
Helen Marlys Friskop in rural DeLamere, N.D. Jerry and Marlys moved to Waconia to work for the Yetzer Funeral Home for a short time before starting work at the Glende-Johnson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls in 1952. In 1957 he moved to Wadena to work for Red Bjerke at the Bluttruff-Bjerke Funeral Home. In 1960 he along with Albert Messer, purchased the funeral home from Red and renamed the business the Messer-Johnson Memorial Home. Jerry retired from active work in funeral service in 1983 but continued to be involved with his sons in the business. He served for a number of years on the OEO, rural Minnesota CEP, Community Action Council board was a 16 year member of the Wadena HRA board, served as president and received the Melvin Jones Award for the Wadena Lions Club, was a member of the VFW, the Elks Lodge and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving in several office positions and committees.
He is survived by his wife, Marlys Johnson, Wadena; one daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Kopacz, Hartford, Wis.; three sons, Henry (Pat) Johnson, Wadena and Jon (Pat) Johnson, Wadena, and Tim (Jennell) Johnson, Silverlake, Minn.; eight grandchildren; one brother, Don (Becky) Johnson, Valley City; two sisters, Berniece Olson, San Diego and Eileen Albertson, St. Louis Park, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Henry, and one sister, Dorothy Mann.
Burial with military honors took place in the Wadena Cemetery.

Robert D. “Bob” Anderson
Robert D. “Bob” Anderson, 82, died at his home in Columbia Falls from natural causes on Wednesday, June 18, 2003. Bob was a retired Navy veteran and in the care of his daughters at home at the time of his death.
Bob was born in Lisbon, N.D., on January 21, 1921, to Oscar and Emma Anderson.
He graduated from high school in Lisbon and enlisted in the Navy on November 20, 1940. He served a distinguished and active career as an aviation machinist’s mate aboard the USS Ranger and the USS Yorktown. Bob was a survivor of the Battle of the Coral Sea, and the Battle of Midway, and was onboard the USS Yorktown when it was sunk.
After the war, Bob married
Martha Settle and together they raised six children. His career included duty assignments in Florida, Hawaii, Maine, California, Kansas and Texas, where he was honorably discharged from active duty on August 2, 1960, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Bob remained in Fleet Reserve for another 10 years.
After retiring, Bob and Martha took a trip to Glacier Park, fell in love with the area and settled in Columbia Falls, where they raised their family. Bob began work at Plum Creek in 1962, and remained there for 21 years until his retirement from Plum Creek in 1983.
In addition to his work and family, Bob was an active member of the Columbia Falls Volunteer Fire Department and Glacier Rifle Club. He was a devoted father and grandfather, an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to spend his days with family, visiting with friends, fishing, and watching sports, especially his beloved Atlanta Braves. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was cherished for his delightful way of looking at life. He had a gift of making people around him smile. He had many special friends who gathered around him with his family and were there to support him through his extended illness.
Preceding him in death were his father and mother, Oscar and Emma Anderson; wife, Martha Hales; sisters, Florence Hanna, Hanna Butcher, Blanche Calkins, and infant sister, Ethel May; and brothers, Walter Anderson and Chet Anderson.
Survivors include his brother, George Anderson of Lisbon, N.D.; daughters, Andrea Wright and her husband, Mike, of Evergreen, Joan Anderson and companion, Greg Widgren of Kila, Maria Anderson of Columbia Falls, and Ruth Schmidt and her husband, Bob, of Anchorage, Alaska. He is also survived by his two sons, George Anderson and his wife, Kathy, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Robert O. Anderson and his wife, Sue, of Minden, Nev.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge Jolene and staff of Hospice for their professional and compassionate care throughout his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to Home Options Hospice, 175 Commons Loop, Suite 100, Kalispell, MT 59901.
Services were held Friday, June 27 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Columbia Falls with military graveside services at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Dennis O. Arneson
Funeral services for Dennis Arneson, 58, Britton, S.D., were held on Thursday, July 24, 2003 in First Lutheran Church, Britton. Reverends Terrill and Sara Sorensen officiated. Mr. Arneson died Monday, July 21, 2003 in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Dennis Ornell Arneson, son of Orvey and Velva Luella (More) Arneson, was born on February 18, 1945. He grew up on the family farm near Havana and graduated from Havana High School in 1964. He served with the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967 in Vietnam and Korea. After his military discharge he worked as a gravel truck driver for a short time. He worked at the Cenex station in Britton as a mechanic for more than 20 years. He then worked as a mechanic at Holland Brothers Oil, Britton. He purchased Havana Grocery in 2001 which he owned and operated until the time of his death. Dennis was a member of the Reisenweber-Wold Post #298 of the American Legion of Kidder, S.D., a member and past commander of V.F.W. Post #3507 of Britton.
He is survived by a brother Harlow (Jeanette) Arneson, Lisbon; and four sisters, Shirley Schneider, Britton, Janice (Jay) Thomas, Valley City, Diane (Ben) Meyer, Oakes, and Marilyn Voss, Groton, S.D. he was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Music was provided by organist Lona Batie and soloist Terry Price.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Harvey Schneider, Bennett Arneson, Donald Arneson, Chad Voss, Chuck Voss and Brad Dudley. Honorary pallbearers were all of Dennis’ many friends.
Interment at Havana Cemetery, Havana.

Donald G. Borgen
Private funeral rites for Donald G. Borgen, 66, Lakeside, Ore., were held on July 12, 2003 at the Milnor Lutheran Cemetery. Mr. Borgen died Tuesday, April 15, 2003 in Oregon.
Donald Gene Borgen, son of Marble and Mable Borgen was born on November 5, 1936 at Veblen, S.D. He attended school at Wyndmere. After High School he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Alaska and Seattle, Wash.
He married
Dorothy Suchla. Don was a mechanic and had a shop at Gwinner. He also worked with his father on grain elevators doing construction and repair work. He later married
Mary Ann Capouch. Don later retired to Lakeside, Ore.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, Jamestown; daughter, Kimberly Reynolds, Fargo; two sons, Greg Borgen, Lidgerwood and Barry Borgen, Lidgerwood; three sisters, Shirley Svenby, Detroit Lakes, Sarah Walker, Manhattan, Kan., and Judy Johnson, Lisbon; one brother, Dennis Borgen, Lakota; three step-children and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Alice Heley, Norma Langemo, Doris Rupe, and Patricia Kowalski and brother, Robert Borgen.
Interment at Milnor Lutheran Cemetery.
Alvin E. Peterson
Funeral services for Alvin E. Peterson, 86, Enderlin, were held on Monday, July 21, 2003 at First Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Leon Zavadil officiated. Mr. Peterson died Friday, July 18, 2003 at St. Anthony’s Health Center, St. Anthony, Minn.
Alvin E. “Abbie” Peterson, son of Oscar and Hanna (Simons) Peterson was born on June 10, 1917 in Fingal, N.D. He attended school in Enderlin. He was in the U.S. Army from April 24, 1942 - August 25, 1945. He was a member of the Railroad Battalion. He served in the African, Middle Eastern and European Theatre.
On August 12, 1941, he married
Pauline Dehn. They lived in Enderlin where he worked as an insurance adjuster and as a conductor/brakeman on the Soo Line railroad. She died March 10, 1978. In 1991 he was inducted into the Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame and also the Legion Hall of Fame. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Am Vets.
He is survived by one son, Terry (Margaret) Peterson, Coon Rapids, Minn.; one daughter, Luanne (Howard) Bueling, Marysville, Wash.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Darlene (Milton) Strand, Fargo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, and son, Alvin Eddie Peterson, Jr.
Pallbearers for the funeral were all his nephews and nieces.
Music was provided by organist Verna Armstrong and soloist Jack Armstrong.
Interment at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Enderlin.

Marcella J. Anderson
Funeral services for Marcella J. “Marcie” Anderson, 72, Milnor, N.D., were held on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at the Milnor Lutheran Church, Milnor. Reverend David Killeen officiated. Mrs. Anderson died Saturday, July 19, 2003 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.
Marcella J. Stockstad, daughter of John and Mabel (Schimelfenig) Stockstad was born on January 19, 1931 at Milnor. She grew up and attended school in Milnor.
On January 23, 1948, she married
Herbert Anderson in Dwight, N.D. The couple lived in Milnor, where Marcie worked as a waitress and cook at local businesses. She also worked as a cook for many years at the Milnor Senior Center and helped Herb with his garbage business. Marcie was a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed trivia, morning coffee with friends, trips to Fargo on the bus, bingo, and trips to the casino with friends. In her younger years, Marcie enjoyed bowling and golf. Her biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Marcie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who always remember her loved ones every day.
She is survived by her husband, Herb Anderson, Milnor; four sons, John (Betty) Anderson, Lisbon, Kevin (Donna) Fargo, Todd (Pat) West Fargo, and Jason (Heather) Anderson, Staples, Minn.; one brother, Leonard (Helen) Hillstrom, Vergas, Minn.; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Anderson, Beloit, Wis.; and eleven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Richard and two brothers.
Music was provided by organist Carol Ydstie and soloist Bob Schutt.
Interment at Lakeside Cemetery, near Milnor.
